BFA Academy: Calling Young Football Players

The National Academy is the selection pool for Bermuda National teams for International Competitions and events, and tryouts for the 2001 intake [players born in 2001] will be held on September 26, September 28, and October 5th.

A statement from the Academy said: “The Bermuda Football Association formed the National Academy based on a European model in September 2009 as a part of a 5 year strategic plan.

“The National Academy program serves to help identify individuals early on, and aid their development into elite players. The program strives to develop individuals for placement opportunities into US Colleges / Prep Schools and European Professional Academies.

“The National Academy is the selection pool for Bermuda National teams for International Competitions and events. A holistic programme encompassing the four corner-stones of player development- Technical / Tactical / Physical / Social-Emotional is delivered through a central curriculum and syllabus by highly qualified coaches. Participants will attend weekly training sessions as well as participate in weekend and school break camps, along with a calendar of games and events.

“Tryouts for the 2001 intake (players born in 2001) for the BFA National Academy program will be held on Wednesday September 26, Friday September 28, and Friday October 5th, 2012. Sessions for each night will run from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at the BFA field in Prospect.

“National Academy coaches will conduct the sessions; assessing the players’ technical abilities & skills, physical qualities, decision making & execution in game situations, also their attitude and interaction with team mates and coaches.

“Players should wear white shorts and a white T-shirt (non-club gear). Please bring a water bottle, football boots, shin guards and wear football socks that will cover them entirely.
