Gosh, im so ruthless arent i?
It is not necessarily the fault of the driver as I have seen many people just start walking across the street without allowing oncoming traffic the time to register and stop safely.
@Curious – have you ever tried waiting to cross the road on a cross walk, you stand on the curb, then you stand in the road, then you put one step forward and eventually someone will stop for you – but watch out if that driver is on the same side of the road as you, or is a truck – because some jhackass who can’t wait 10 seconds for you to cross will decide to overtake and take you out in the process.
Very true. Happened to me this week as students from Berkeley who was on sidewalk than just came into street where there was a silly boy already walking in the middle of the road. Looking for attention. Make you noise students…..be sensible, I slow down to pedestrian crossings but just darting into the room without looking is just plain stupid, careless, and immature as a little one does.
Oops
*darting into road
* make your noise
I have seen many people just start walking across the street without acknowledging oncoming traffic but what about the drivers who drive across the pedestrain crossing while there are people still walking across them.
I’ve seen times where the person walking across the crossing had to
walk with haste or jump back to avoid being injured because the drivers
and riders aren’t paying attention, speeding or just don’t want to stop.
In alot of cases pedestrians that get hit must take some responsibility because if they attempted to wait for eye contact with the driver of the vehicle before crossing the street wouldn’t get hit. Drivers can also lose sight of people on the side Due to the cars window post
Ever tried making eye contact with a driver – as Shawnee says you are not even safe on the cross walk – I saw a young woman have to stop in the middle of the cross walk on Reid Street the other day – no traffic coming when she stepped on the cross walk – by the time she hit the middle bikes racing both sides of her – I had started to folloow her across but I couldn’t because the car driver coming down Reid Street was busy talking on his cell phone.
Honestly, some laws we have put people in bad habits.
For one, if you hit a pedestrian it’s almost always your fault.
Don’t matter if that person was on a sidewalk or in the road.
It is almost always the drivers fault.
There are traffic lights at the corner of Church and Parliament Streets. The pedestrian should have been on the crosswalk. If not, the driver has to be cautious. But it is ultimately the pedestrian’s responsiblity to obey the traffic lights.
This is why we have red lights and crosswalks……
