Accident: Top Tennis Player Loses Part Of Toe

Bermuda’s Number One Seeded Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles tennis player Gavin Manders was involved in a bike accident that saw him sustain various injuries, including part of his small toe.

A police spokesperson said: “Around 1pm on Friday, November 30th police and first responders attended a reported collision on Middle Road in Southampton near Tribe Road #3 involving a motorcycle and a van.

“Details are unclear at this time, however the motorcycle rider, a 26 year old Warwick man, was injured and treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. His injury is not considered to be life threatening. There were no other injuries reported. Inquiries into this collision are ongoing.”

Mr Manders, a former Bermuda Athlete of the Year, is expected to continue playing tennis after he recuperates.
