St. George’s Announces Late Night Shopping

December 15, 2012

The Town of St. George’s is gearing up for an exciting holiday season, thanks to a collaboration between the shop keepers, the Corporation of St. George’s, nonprofits, and sponsors.

“Earlier this year, the shopkeepers of the town had started planning various events, so we all decided to join with the Corporation’s event committee and develop a list of fun and exciting events for the Town,” said Michelle Wales, Chair of the Joint Event Committee and owner of St. George’s café and Fair Trade store, Conscious Vibes.

“There’s so much to love about St. George’s – and rather than complain about what could be done, we decided to do it!” As Ms. Wales mentioned, the Bermuda National Trust Walkabout and The Santa Parade took place as planned on December 7 and 8 respectively. And now, this week and next week Saturday, December 15 and 22 will be the late night shopping nights.

Ms. Wales continues, “All of St. George’s stores plus the Olde Towne Market will be open til 9 pm. St. George’s has a great selection of small boutique stores that have a wide variety of items you can’t find anywhere else on the island, so shoppers will certainly be able to cross many people off their Christmas list.

“Additionally, the St. George’s Foundation will be offering a ‘Drop and Shop’ service from 3 – 5pm, so parents can shop without their kids in tow.” On those 2 nights, other activities in the square include snow ball fights, a dunking booth, photos with Santa, hay rides, Clearwater Middle School choirs, a wrestling demonstration, and a DJ.

“The Christmas Spirit is definitely alive in St. George’s. The town looks amazing, thanks to the wonderful workers from the Corporation, who’ve decorated the town with lights.

“We also have volunteer artists Ami Zanders and Wendy Bassett, who have warmed the trees, cannons and lamp posts in the town with a really different display called ‘yarn bombing’. And, we are especially thankful to Link Bermuda, who donated Christmas Trees and decorations that have given us a really festive look. It was wonderful to get their support!”

Link Bermuda Chief Operating Officer, Miller Williams said, ““LinkBermuda is pleased to play a part of lighting up St. Georges for the holidays!” Ms. Wales concludes, “Basically, the goal of these events is to increase traffic in St. George’s – the stores, the charities, the residents – we all benefit from having a more vibrant, energetic town.

There’s so much potential in our town, and we’re eager to show all of Bermuda that there are a lot of great things happening here.” In addition to Link Bermuda, other event sponsors are Wahoos, Meyer Shipping, Needles Etc, Conscious Vibes, Burrows & Lighbourne, Bermuda Rentals, Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, and the Corporation of St. George.
