First Of BEST Swimming Series “Was A Success”
Ben Smith – National Coach and Sharks Head Coach said today [Feb 26], “The first Best of the BEST [Shipping] swim meet on Saturday February 23rd was very successful.
“We were worried at the start that the cool temperatures would affect the swims but the racing was as fast as ever. Many of the swimmers that participated in the training camps over the school break were in great form today.”
He continued, “We had multiple personal best swims and many swimmers came very close to hitting qualifying times for Carifta. Shannon Botelho in the 100 free hit his second time for Carifta and has now joined a group of 14 swimmers that have hit the times.
“Philip Hagen who has been working hard all season and endured the Florida training camp is showing what we can expect at Carifta. He was able to set a personal best in the 100 free and set a new record in the 100 IM.
“Maddie Moore continued her strong season by lowering her own 11-12 records in the 50 back and 50 free. The Sharks swim team was able to set 3 relay records to conclude a successful meet.”
Sharks coaches from both the junior and senior pool were extremely impressed with the performance put forward by their swimmers.
Barry Hanson, Head Coach of the Dolphins Swim Club commented, “Although the number of swimmers participating from our club was low due to the weather and revised training schedules due to the BASA pool closure, I was proud of those kids that braved the elements.”
Coach Hanson added “that despite the cold temperatures, many of our swimmers had personal bests in a number of their events. Great job to all of those that participated!”
Next week Saturday, March 2nd there will be another qualifying meet at Warwick Academy Pool, at 12noon.
