Video: Jr & Sr Athletes Of The Year Named

[Updated with video] Jesse Washington and Kyrah Scraders were named the Junior Athletes of the Year, while Tyrone Smith and Flora Duffy were named the Senior Athletes of the Year at last night’s [Mar 16] Annual Sports Awards Ceremony at the Fairmont Southampton.

Hosted by the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation; the awards identify and recognize distinguished achievements of Bermudians in the field of sports.

Jesse Washington has proven himself to be dominant swimmer in various Caribbean championships; claiming fifteen medals in total during last year’s Caribbean Island Swimming Championships in Aruba, and Carifta Games in the Bahamas.

Kyrah Scraders is one of the region’s top runners, having won medals in international events such as the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships and Carifta Games.

Tyrone Smith beat out fellow Olympians Tyler Butterfield and Roy-Allen Burch to be crowned the Male Athlete of the Year, while Flora Duffy beat out fellow Olympians Arantxa King and Jillian Terceira to be crowned the Female Athlete of the Year. Neither of the Senior Athletes of the Year were present for last night’s ceremony, with both training and competing overseas.

    Congrats to all of the winners! But where is Taylor-Ashley Bean in this awards ceremony? She has had an awesome year and represented Bermuda well! I remember seeing her name in the news paper almost every week breaking and setting new records!
