Police should have known that there would be something was going to happen up west. Things will continue to happen until people get revenge. An eye for an eye.

I am really starting to question policing methods in this country.

They would patrol during daylight hours for traffic offenders especially during morning rush hour. How many road fatalities/accidents happen during morning rush hour? Why dont police patrol nights or keeps an eye of who leaves the bar and hops on a bike??

It amazes me how they can be out in full force at uneccessary times but when it comes to serious crimmes like gun violence they are real lax and do not seem to strategize.

    • Django unchained says:

      I so agree.

    • And The BS Continues says:

      @claudio: I agree, when they say Police intelligent’s, I ask what intelligent’s?

      • March Hare says:

Maybe its being able to spell intelligence.

    • Y-Gurl says:

I have questioned the methods of these clowns for years, here we have an over equiped and under performing BPS with a leadership thats laughed at from inside and outside and are completely useless when it comes to either detering, solving or even understanding the crimes in Bermuda, sure they look like a real police service when the speed to the incident in vast numbers running around like they are on an episode of “cops’ but there it ends.

Their strategy appears to be hide all day and night until joe public gets involved and gives them enough information that they may be able to do something, and clearly with the lack of respect they have in our community that doesnt happen very often. Perhaps if some of the “leadership” took an intrest in whats going on instaed of hiding in an office waiting on the pension kicking in we would be in better shape and less fearful of teenage murderers running around our streets with guns that the police cant or dont want to catch, why doesnt the Governor call for an enquiry into the less than effective BPS then simply replace those under performers at the top to give Bermuda a service that we can depend on.

    • Fruity says:

I agree with this point – the times they are most visible seem unnecessary.. Its needs to be continued not seperatic

    • Tommy Chong says:

What really drives the nail in the coffin is that our current government has cut funding public youth camps to give more to the police. What will the parents who cant afford the $200 – $300 a week camps do with their kids when breaks come up because the cheaper government camps can’t afford to run? OBA’s turning a blind eye to the kids of low income parents will only strengthen the wanksters pull on those kids.

Millions more to the police? The milkman is a farce who should stick to his cows & leave the government alone.

      • Community says:

The Community Centers in each Parish offer camps on the cheap. Give your respective Parish Center a call.

        St. George’s: 297-1754
        Hamilton: 292-1343
        Sandy’s: 234-1275

        • Tommy Chong says:

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll let those I know who are looking. Hopefully there’s enough room in these camps for the extra kids that usually go to the other government camps.

    • Bermy Yout says:

Good point. But are you really baffled by this??
Police officers need to meet a quota. The govt- boss desparately needs to make money in general and to pay this increased taskforce.
Crime justifies their iincreased budget and ‘employees’.
Perhaps the reactionary nature of their presence to crime, as opposed to a proactive presence.
Perhaps why known offenders are ‘leashed’ on the streets.
      Perhaps…

  7. Django unchained says:

When are the police going to start being proactive. I know what some will say, the police can’t do it all. But the sad reality is these crap heads are shooting people every so often and have even killed innocent people. Remember the police are the only ones allowed to lawfully carry firearms so they must take a more proactive roll and stop speeding from one end of the island to the next after an incident has already happened and the crap head has left the scene.

I feel for the officers on patrol that aren’t armed. I wouldn’t want their job. They are playing with their lives.

    • Impressive says:

Whats your definition of proactive if someone gets shot in residential area at 10pm at night on a Tuesday night?? Are the police supposed to be parked outside people’s houses waiting for things to happen, and then drive back to the station and solve the unsolved crimes, prevent all the people who are not responsible enough to plan to get home safely after being out drinking, prevent people from speeding on the roads 24 hours a day, stop all the break-ins before they occur??

Are you calling for Marshall Law. You can’t legislate common sense, and you can’t legislate good behavior. We the people have to start making better decisions and living our lives in a manner to uplift the persons who commit senseless acts.. Don’t expect the police to stop everything..

      • duh says:

Proactive as in wire taps and following known crimals dnt sound so ignorant…

        • Impressive says:

so duh. do only known criminals commit crimes, or do you think that certain individuals can become criminals for the first time, just like the known criminals became criminals for the first time at some point??

          • duh says:

They the ones who tell the first time ppl what to do… Keep up now lol

      • Eastern says:

        @ Impressive

I agree. How do you expect the police to be everywhere at once?
‘Django Unchained’ says that police need to be proactive, but can he (or she) tell the police where the next shooting, motor vehicle accident, house break-in, etc., is going to happen?
‘Claudio’ says “Why dont police patrol nights or keeps an eye of who leaves the bar and hops on a bike??” Do you know how many bars there are in Bermuda? Your post is rediculous. If you had enough police to be everywhere at once I’m sure you’d be the first to complain that Bermuda has become a police state!!!

        • Django unchained says:

The problem with people, who say that the police cannot be everywhere and that the police cannot know where the next crime will happen, is your looking for excuses as to justify the lack of action by the police. I will concede that the police cannot be everywhere and know when a crime will actually occur. However, the Bermuda Police are not a proactive police force; they are a reactionary force. In that they do not patrol constantly, they follow Great Britain in having a mostly unarmed force, which makes absolutely no sense. I have been told that only 3 police cars patrol out of Sandy’s. Surely that is not enough patrol cars to combat 911 calls and just simply makes no sense. I think Bermuda’s biggest problem is accountability and respect from the top down. The laws are to keep the little man down while it protects the people in authority. Officers get paid about $7 or $8 thousand dollars per month. If they can’t be more proactive then how do they justify getting paid so much? Unless they are getting paid for clean-up services. I was told that part of an officer’s duty is to prevent crime and the protection of life and property. Well, the force isn’t doing much of that at all. Also Bermuda is a police state with over 400 officers to a population of about 70,000.

          • Impressive says:

The point I am trying to make, and although this concept may be unrealistic to some, (And I am not saying that to be offensive or to seem sarcastic) but until we make a group effort to improve the mindset of individuals through better education, find ways to teach the youth to appreciate life more, to respect the next human being, (How many of us are guilty of watching movies filled with violence and the like in front of our children?? How many of us are guilty of buying video games where the main objective is to kill as many people as possible for our Children? How many people swear in front of their children? How many people don’t know how to practice self control and self discipline, yet want others to respect them?, How many of our women glorify the gangster lifestyle than disrespect the caring and compassionate guy in their day to day activities?)

Until we address the problems and circumstances that cause this type of behavior, you can bring in all the police man in the world, you will not address the core of the problem,,

Thats just my 2 cents, but with the price of things,, 2 cents can’t buy a damm thing,, Lol

            • truthsays says:

What you know and agree apon as a mind set reguardless of how posisitve through moral segestion actually becomes redicolous when your mistakened for someone else and shot. No one care how good of a person you are and how different you may be if they think your in ‘it’ your a target if they think your someone else even worst. That’s the situation from the person himself.

          • BermyYout says:

            On point brah!

        • Fruity says:

I dont think it was literally meant to be outside every home but to be more present in the evening hours; driving around. More likely to be in the area of these incidents and have better chance of getting a trail or complete capture.

Mind you I do not see any progress/over-the-top effort coming from the police for various reasons. I just think the message was mistook.

        • Impressive says:

Like I mentioned before Eastern,, If the island keeps having wild fires breaking out over the island, and acres and acres of land are getting burnt,, Would you as someone with Authority to address the problem just keep hiring more fire man??? Or would you find ways to stop the fires from starting???????

    • Hudson says:

I’m sorry, but Police can’t be everywhere at once. Sure, they can “step it up” a little, but the reality is that the mindset of violence, anger, hatred, intollerance and belief that because of where you might live, or the clothes you wear, or the bike your ride, or the drugs you smoke might make you more or less important than the next person. That’s what’s got to be fixed. It happens at home, schools, churches, and neighbourhoods through collective postive social activity. That’s like saying that it’s better to ahve 100 fire extinguishers on hand to put out a fire you know is going to burn, instead of actually stopping the buring from happening in the first place! Fix the underlying cause. Take some responsibility for your children ad your family members!

Been saying this for years. I agree. They clearly want to kill each other. Let them just do it already and let the rest of us move on in peace.

  11. politics= pile-of-tricks says:

Reality check…the police don’t really want to stop this violence…some boast and bragg about how much overtime they get due to these criminal acts…I’ve heard a few talk about it…or should I say boast about it… Now you all think about it…does a doctor really want to cure you…he’ll be out of a job…that goes for the lawyer who defends them n the judge who gives them a soft sentence…wake up Bermuda don’t wait for the so called authorities to protect you…protect yourselves… Here is a scenario, food for thought… an assailant breaks into your house and is armed with an offensive weapon. At home is your wife and children. Do you know that if you or your family become threaten, you don’t have the right to protect yourself. If you were to apprehend him with violence, beacuse the assailant won’t volunteer, you the initial victim would then become the criminal and the offense will be assult…thats right you will be arrested for protecting your family. The law protects criminals because they keep them employed…it’s simple maths…open your eyes Bermuda.

You’re not paranoid when the world really is out to get YOU! …loser mentality.

      • Y.N.W.A. says:

Why don’t you read and learn something? What @politics= is saying is true, you cannot legally defend yourself in that situation. All you can do is hope the gun isn’t loaded or the knife isn’t sharp and try to restrain the intruder.

        @ss backwards laws….

    • Eastern says:

      @ politics= pile-of-tricks

You just insulted every civil servant in Bermuda. Good thing you didn’t use your real name, because you’d have no luck getting anything done in an official sense.

      • Truth is killin' me... says:

And there’s a lot of civil servants out there that need to be out of a job for doing NOTHING and collecting a pay check!!!!!!!

    • Fruity says:

hahaha many will take offense to this – but I can understand completely!!!!!

    • March Hare says:

Your statement about protecting your family from an intruder is totally and utterly incorrect.

    • Plato says:

This is exactly what i see too the ______ is obvious, the only ones that will disagree are civil servants but their propaganda cannot touch the truth, Guns need to be legalized soon or its going to reach a point where the law is irrelevant.

    • Rockfish#1 says:

      @ politics = pile – of- tricks,

There is an element of truth in your comments.
Several police constables are known to brag about the fact that they make “as much as a Chief Inspector” And are able to provide the proof.

Trouble is, they average 30 hours of work weekly. Additionally, they basically decide what hours they want to work, submit the hours and laugh all the way to the bank.(figuratively)

I expect the thin blue line to deny this, but it is true.

  13. Charlita Campbell says:

This is my lil cousin which is no gangster, and does not affiliate with none of them so please keep your lame ass comments to yourself and get a life, unless you know him personally don’t comment on something you have no clue about thanks… He is not even in the mind set to be affilliated with no Gangs… I pray the lord heals my family… Please do the same

    • Facts says:

Praying that this young man is ok

    • Micro says:

Yea I bet, they’re never “involved”.

    • let's be honest says:

I think it’s funny how the first thing family and friends say about the victim is that “oh, he weren’t in a gang, gang affiliate, gangster, or trouble maker.” Bore me less. (Especially when evidence states otherwise)

That’s the problem in Bermuda, people don’t call a spade a spade. I’m not saying he deserved it or isnt a good guy, but come on now. Denial much? People are embarrassed, with right, but to paint a picture without capturing the real deal isn’t right & definitely doesn’t warrant too much sympathy.

I pray people be honest & be honest with themselves.

      • Chuckling says:

That’s deep. So without knowing the victim or his family YOU know that he is involved in gangs. Like the young man that was stabbed to death up Khyber Pass by a 15 yr old. Gang banga????? What’s scary is you actually thought about what you said before you wrote it.

      • Wellll says:

Actually, although most of the time the victim is in or affiliated with a gang it is not necessarily the case. One of my friends lives in a certain neighbourhood and because he has been seen frequently in that area by his home he has been attacked due to other gangs assuming he is part of the gang associated with that area. He attends college, studies hard and does well.

I am not saying that is necessarily the case in this situation but I do not think it is fair to categorize the victim of being gang affiliated solely on the basis of being a victim.

    • jredmond says:

you lot should take it easy. Charlita could be right, and it wouldn’t be the first time innocent people were targeted. Just being in a certain area and black is reason enough nowadays.

    • Um Um Like says:

more to come! – a shame.

  21. Sign Up says:

All this mention of Police reminds me just how naive, and far off the mark my Bermudian people are regarding the anti-social behavior which plagues the island.

This island is a breeding ground for anti-social behavior. Visit most of these guys homes and you can get an idea of how we came to this. No father, or dead-beat father, or sometime father. Mom who’s in her 40′s, but thinks she’s in her 20′s. No time to sit and do homework with the kids, too busy talking to their boo-boo’s on BB, or getting their hair done for the weekend out. And the rest are out working like slaves just to make ends meet. So who’s guiding and raising these kids? Where are their positive role models?

Talking about Police this late in the game is like telling someone to soak the codfish after they’ve already cooked it. Well now we gotta eat that salty codfish! But we can learn from our mistakes. The answer is in the homes. The family units. The structure and support that a young impressionable mind needs. Unfortunately, this generation is lost. We have no one to blame but ourselves. We were too busy taking care of self, instead of being there for our children. So don’t talk about Police, because the problem/solution is a lot closer than you think. Just look in the mirror.

    • Tommy Chong says:

Ahhhh Yes Lets Pray!!! Just like the milkman said.

One would think that Jesus spent his whole life in prayer but I don’t see that anywhere in the New Testament. Isn’t that who these religious figures & people are supposed to follow? I can count on one hand the amount of times it mentions Jesus praying in the Bible. The rest I read about him doing things that are proactive but hey, keep praying if you really think that’s following in his footsteps.

  24. Jack says:

A solution have to be found for the high percentage of young men congregate on properties different section of the island. Most if not all this gun shooting coming out of this congregation.Countries like America the Government will warn the property owners,in some case find the property owner or take away the property from them, may be this is something need to be looked at.Small Island like Bermuda this gun shooting affect every body.

  25. Elizabeth Von Trumparani says:

Why I don’t live down the west end.

    • bermy guy says:

this has got to be the dumbest comment on bernews ever if this activity is island wide which has already been shown then why are you only pointing out the west end what about st geo, warwick, devonshire , pembroke, and etc. every parish in bermuda has had this activity. so keep ya dumba$$ comments to ya self it better to be thought a fool then to open ya mouth and prove ya a fool, fool

  26. Yes I says:

We’re all guilty. Most comments are written by scared citizens who can only let out their frustration on a bernews forum. What does that solve? Nothing. It just gives a little satisfaction that we’ve said our piece and can move on. If we were serious about fixing crime, we would truly act on our empty words.

Unfortunately there will be another shooting to allow us to say our piece and until it affects us personally, it’s business as usual. Who has the as weds to cure this problem? We do! It will take huge financial, time, Nd moral sacrifice because many of us have friends who we KNOW are involved in sketchy activity. I could go on, but it would turn into a long post that very few will read and even fewer will take seriously.

I love Bermuda even with the ever increasing scars being formed. Our fears are warranted but giving up and sending blame does nothing but fuel an already violent fire.

  27. Livin in a warzone says:

Its like dis nowadays….if u aint from round hea den get from round hea or dnt come round hea. An unfamiliar face is enough to fall victim 2day…unfortunately. We as young ppl, men & sum women are subjected to havin boundaries. Sum more extreme then others. U have ppl that can only c half of d island, & others c less than half. Den u have ppl that only stick to d hood, sum cause dey have to & sum cause its all dey kno. We limit ourselves but d ppl b4 us have also contributed to d limitations we have. Lack of example & attention wur needed causin innocence & morals to b thrown to d curb & d feelin of luv & acceptance from peers instead of family. I’ve learned ya fam kno u but ya friends kno u best. Not to say any1 is a gang member but ya company is a reflection of self. Regardless tho d yout nah deserve it, no1 does. Things could b a lot worst Bermuda. Jus pray that d influences of foreign countries displayed on media & internet dnt effect d minds & morals of our youth any futher.

  28. soon & very soon says:

What is bothersome is that no one has addressed the issue of how these guys are still getting the bullets needed for these guns they are “reusing”. Unlike in the United States everything comes into Bermuda only by either AIR or SEA. Who are policing these entry points? Is it the Police or Customs? Who ever it is, why are these illegal items still getting past them? Is it time for “Operation Clean Sweep” in these two deaprtments? And if the Police know who these lawless individuals are who are committing these crimes why don’t they just go and get them? We know where they are at 9:00 a.m. Monday-Friday; home sleeping because they do not hold tax contributing jobs. While we are all at work they are all home sleeping off their “hard night’s work” of lawlessness. It’s time to put these individuals and their parents on alert they the Police are coming for them. Everytime there is another shooting we are having the same conversation. What’s the definaition of insanity? It is time for a different conversation accompanied by a differnt course of action.

The customs has stopped all the cannabis from coming in & police have confiscated the rest. No need to worry about people with guns & bullets when cannabis is the real killer. All hail the great & powerful OZ the wicked cannabis is dead. Now the lollipop kids can live in harmony with the flying monkeys.

Now kids can you separate fact from fiction?

I am just hearing about this it is becoming the norm.

  30. Ole says:

What is becoming the norm is this insensitive, hate filled commentary from folk that most likely don’t know this particular person or others affected in the past.

Please save your comments for those in your perfect families – those that have never done anything wrong in their entire lives – those that have never violated the 10 commandments..ever!!!!!

There is a higher being and he is judging you…

Where’s Dunkley?? All talk prior to Dec. 16th and now not a word about fixing the problem. Is it getting better or worse? What plan of action is being taken? Politicians are scheming fools….very disappointed.

    • Fruity says:

Good point, shouldn’t be disappointed, it was a statement that shouldn’t have ever been made. lol

He’s with the church representatives having a prayer vigil till the cows come home.

    • Bullseye says:

So you thought all the criminals would be locked up by now? You are easily disappointed yet obviously under-utilised as you have the clear concise solution just as the PLP Opposition do – yet they chose not to use it whilst in power.

I wish people would realise that the world is changing so fast that we can’t keep up yet we are totally chained to a wasteful past and a generation of under-achievers that our island may not make the transition needed in the next ten years. MAYBE things turn around in ten years but don’t expect it this year or next year. Do you get it???? Dont expect anything now!

Keep calm and work hard with your fellow man and we can work out of this, but don’t expect good fortune to naturally return for we are a dot in the ocean.

Quick question??? When the kids from town create problems it’s whatever and then goes away!!! And I’m not saying their names so they can be glorified, you all know who the menaces of Bermuda are!!! The minute there is retaliation from West or East it’s like world news!!! I’m sure alot of people would agree with me!! Do these guys have the police in their pockets?? Sick and tired of the wars for drugs, money, gold!!! Wanna slow it down.. Decriminalize weed and watch how less people are hurt over it!!! Shut down cash for Gold!!! Think about it Bermuda!!!

  34. SMH says:

    @ Pay Attention:

I think you are a problem to our society by stating that town people create problems and don’t want to say the crew.

See this is where the problem lies DENIAL every one loves to assume, but until you have evidence you can’t say they are working with the police or they are right in there pockets.

Do you know anything about LIFE. LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT. So before you go making these comments stop and ask yourself has anyone in this crew ever taken a life and if so why did they not tell the police to bring them to justice. I don’t want to hear about being scared because at the end of the day if you saw them know them and dont TALK then you are worst then the murderer who commited the crime.

Secondly in life everything happens for a reason and as far as I can see people are Incarcerated and Sh.. still happens so when the in it happens when they are out it happens and you still blame them.

Now look at the real logic. Everything in life happens for a reason, so if you want to live like a thug then go down like a thug and stop blaming people for people wrong decisions which I feel is called following. FOLLOW your own mind half of the people you kill you have no reason don’t no them but because they are from a different area you feel you can take a life.

SO FACE THE CONCEQUENCE AND DO YOUR TIME UNTIL JUDGEMENT DAY.

    PEACE

AND THIS IS FOR ALLCREWS AND BADMINDED PEOPLE I DONT CONDONE NONE OF IT .

    ITS GETTING VERY BORING.
