Carifta Medalists Speak To Primary Students
Carifta swimming medalists Madelyn Moore and Jesse Washington spoke to the students of the Prospect Primary at a special assembly yesterday [Apr 15], with the pair highlighting the need to balance both training and school Work.
Moore, 12, said, “My goal is to eventually qualify for the Olympics, but I need to make sure that I stay on top of my school work.”
Washington, 13, said, “I train about eight times a week, roughly hour and half to two hours at a time, but I stay committed to what I want to achieve which is the Olympics.”
National Swimming Coach Ben Smith said, “Both Washington and Moore are both good at swimming, but they are also very good in school and that is very important to staying focused.”
Madelyn Moore and Jesse Washington set a number of Bermuda age group records as they combined to win a total of seven medals — 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze — at the 2013 Carifta Swimming Championships in Jamaica.
