Hypertension Theme For Public Health Week

The Department of Health said they would like to advise the public that this week [8th-12th April] is Public Health Week. The theme this year is hypertension [high blood pressure] with the slogan “Do you know your blood pressure numbers?”

The Department of Health will launch a public awareness campaign to educate the public about the importance of being screened for hypertension and controlling hypertension, if diagnosed. Other activities during Public Health Week will include the following:

  • Promotion of the free Blood Pressure Clinic offered at the Department of Health, Hamilton Health Centre, Victoria Street on Wednesdays between 2pm-4pm [278-6460].
  •  The Public Health Awards [to be held on Wednesday] recognize organizations and individuals who have distinguished themselves and the profession by outstanding contributions in promoting the prevention of non-communicable diseases.
  • We Matter Denim Day. The Ministry of Health staff are taking part in Denim Day 2013 by wearing jeans on Friday, April 12, 2013 for a suggested donation of $10 to the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust’s Why it Matters campaign. If you wish to participate and donate online click here.

Free blood pressure screenings in local barber shops during this week from 10 am – 2 pm.

  • Monday: Walker Arcade [Arcade Barber Shop and Angelo’s Bistro
  • Tuesday: Universal Barber Shop
  • Wednesday: Quality Cutz and Ricky’s Barber Shop
  • Friday: Dodd’s Hairdressing for Men and Whitter’s International Barber Shop
