Sailing: Dickinson Wins West End Regatta

Stephen Dickinson kicked off the 2013 Comet Season with a win in the Mid-Winter Regatta off the West End Sailboat Club this past weekend.

Dickinson and his crew Pat Young won three of the four races sailed on the day, while finishing second in the final race finishing behind Dimitri Stevens and his crew Tremayne Bean who finished second overall.

Sailors raced four races with one race being allowed to be dropped and with the three wins Dickinson and his crew Young finished with three points. Stevens and his crew Bean finished 4th in the first race, before finishing second in races two and three, they then recorded the win in the final race for their 5 points.

Rockal Evans and his crew Christine Barnard finished third overall recording finishes of 2nd, 6th, 5th and 4th for their 11 points, but the most impressive performance of the day came from youngsters Ellie Wollmann and James Amaral who finished 4th overall. The pair are better known for their sailing in the Optimist Class put their skills to the test and showed they have what it takes to compete, Wollmann and Amaral had finishes of 6th, 3rd, 3rd and Did Not Start for their 12 points.
