Justin Rose Books Ticket To PGA Grand Slam

June 17, 2013

Justin Rose captured his first major championship on Sunday [June 16], winning the U.S. Open and booking his ticket to this year’s PGA Grand Slam in Bermuda.

A par on the 18th hole gave him an even-par 70, and that was good enough to become the first Englishman in 43 years to win America’s national championship.

“Rose hit 5-iron to the first cut of rough, pin-high on the 17th for an easy par. He smashed the most important tee shot of his career down the middle on the final hole, about 10 yards short of the famous Ben Hogan plaque. And his approach rolled near the pin and settled against the collar of the green,” reports ABC.

The Grand Slam features the winners of the year’s four Major Championships – the U.S. Open, the Open Championship, the PGA Championship and the Masters. Only players who have won a Major can earn a spot in the elite foursome.

The event will take place from October 14 to 16, and broadcast to a worldwide audience by Turner Sports on TNT. The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a $1.35 million purse, with the winner receiving $600,000; second place $300,000; third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
