Tennis Juniors Heading To Dominican Republic

July 26, 2013

Bermuda’s junior tennis players will be participating in the JITIC 2013 Tennis Tournament being held next month in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

This is an annual event that showcases tennis talent in developing players from throughout the Americas, Caribbean and Central American Region.

Bermuda will be represented in the Under 16 and Under 14 Boys Division’s. The team will consist of three players in each division supported by two coaches.

Competing in the Under 16 Division are Courtland Boyle Jr., Billy Boyle and Nicholas Lines. Competing in the Under 14 Division are Luke Attride-Stirling, Dylon Powell and Ben Lines. The coaches are Jerome Bradshaw and Romar Douglas.

The event will be played from August 3rd to 9th consisting of singles and doubles matches. Although the players are representing their countries, this is not a team event. Players are looking to garner individual points and honours. The winners and runner-ups in singles will be awarded further support and sponsorship for additional training, and direct entry in future tournaments in the region.

This tournament by tradition will feature the best players in the region in the respective age groups and thus favors players who are in their last year of eligibility in the respective divisions. In the 16′s, this is the last year for Courtland and Billy Boyle and in the 14′s this is the last year for Luke Stirling and Dylon Powell.

The first couple of days will feature a round robin event in pools, from here players by performance will be placed in either the “Main Draw” or the “Consolation draw”.

The team departs Bermuda on August 1st and returns on August 10th.
