Minister Updates On Charities Financial Status

August 12, 2013

Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy provided a brief update regarding the Island’s charitable organizations and their financial status.

Last month the Minister gave all local charitable entities until July 31 to ensure that their audited financial statements were current.

Minister Fahy said, “In July we reported that there were 50 registered charities that had not provided their financial statements since 2010.

“I am pleased to announce that of the 50 charities that received letters from the Registry General, we have received the outstanding financials from 23 charities. Thirteen have requested extensions of the time while they finalize their statements.

“Fourteen charities which have been inactive for a while will have their registrations cancelled.

“I wish to thank the officers of the charities who have responded for their prompt attention to our requests. I would also just wish to remind the public that financial statements are due six months after their financial year end.”

Are those the only statements you waiting for, are there any more institutions that are out there? LMAO

I would think that some charities actually carry out much needed social services for those in need, and I’m sure some of these same charities are now going to lose their status. Now combine this with the cuts in social spending by government, and we will realize that the required services that the community needs are being pushed aside by the OBA. I remember the cry over the sunshine league closure, yet here we have Fahy intentionally shutting down multiple charities! The OBA are a very cold, selfish, group of people(the leaders)…Hey, socially clueless OBA, why don’t you work with those REAL charities and encourage them to get an audit instead of shutting them down. My Gracious I cannot wait for the next election!
