Deacon Launches “Deep Blue Communications”

September 19, 2013

Veteran journalist Jeremy Deacon is branching out into business, setting up his own public and media relations firm.

Mr Deacon, who previously worked for the Royal Gazette and served as Acting Editor for six months this year, has set up Deep Blue Communications which specializes in public relations, media consultancy, social media consultancy and writing.

“I have been involved in newspapers for 27 years, many of which were at senior management levels here and in the UK,”  Mr Deacon said, “However, for three years I was also a director of a PR company based in Bristol, in the UK, so have valuable experience in the public relations field as well.

“My clients included a regional airline, a regional law firm and a national chain of estate agents. I once even did PR for the Romanian Prime Minister at a time when the country was seeking entry into the European Union, which was a very interesting experience.”

Mr Deacon is married to a Bermudian and has two children, both of whom were born on the Island. He has been living here for seven years, following a two-year stint on the Island in the 1990s when he was a reporter for the Royal Gazette. He rejoined the newspaper as News Editor before being promoted to Assistant Editor.

He added, “To use a cliché, this is a new chapter in my life and I am really excited about setting up my own business. I know that I can bring a lot to the table and enhance the profile of businesses here and overseas.”
