Restaurant Owner Attacked After Harbour Nights
A Hamilton restaurant owner had to be taken to KEMH recently for an injury to his eye when he was allegedly jumped by two thugs. He had been in his business discussing future plans with some associates when a youth walked in the door when he explained they were closed for business.
The youth then began to argue and the situation escalated into a scuffle on the floor of the premise. Due in part to there being some customers still in the restaurant the initial scuffle was broken up and the man left the premises only to return with another man.
It appeared that the two men then attacked the owner again with helmets one from the front and one from behind knocking the owner to the ground. Again the customers came to the owner’s aid and the youths absconded on a cycle.
A spokesperson from the Bermuda Police Service confirmed an investigation was under way into the incident saying, “The first suspect is described as a dark skinned man between 5’6″ -5’10″ tall of slim build with a close haircut wearing a white T-shirt.
“The second suspect is described as a light skinned man between 5’6″ -5’10″ tall with a shaved head wearing a dark coloured T-shirt and dark coloured pants. Both suspects are believed to be in their 20s. Anyone with information should contact PC Kidane Collins on 295-0011.”

Is it the legal system that is keeping the majority of us on the straight and narrow? I know that I NEVER think so far as “I can’t commit this crime because of the punishment I might receive if I get caught”.
If you have a certain foundation fostered by good parenting and a watchful and supportive secondary guardianship (friends, extended family etc.) and you know that there are people that care the LAST THING on your mind is “what sentence will I get for this crime?”, you just don’t think about committing crimes period.
Here we have a whole bunch of children that annoy their parents for whatever reason and are ignored or children who have never heard no or heard it but knew that there were ways around it. In both scenarios that leads to spoiled people who do what they want and don’t worry about anyone but themselves – that includes the legal system.
I know this might not be the politically correct thing to say but I think some of them are brain damaged either by birth through parental drug use or because they used drugs before their brain could fully develop OR from incorrect stimulation (too many video games and not enough focus on academics music or sports)
All I know is it’s probably NOT the holes in the legal system that’s the first thing we should be questioning.

I called it way back years ago, when the so called professionals started coming home with their papers in hand. Earned from their text book living. But the issue of race has nothing to do with this. It doesn’t matter if the owner was Hispanic and one of the attackers was Aboriginal while the other was Japanese. The fact of the matter is that these people are horribly off-side of the expected level of social interaction in this society. You can’t go and attack someone because they tell you a restaurant is closed (that is the information available at this time). It is barbaric. Then to compound the matter by seeking out a friend to assist you to ambush the person? It is ridiculous! It is beyond unacceptable. It is reprehensible.
I truly hope your twisted interest in the “race” of the victim is not representative of individuals on this island that, as your handle implies, put “God 1st”. You and your ilk are perceived by many to be conservative but this particular interest in race in this matter is downright backward.

The difference in skin colour simply has to do with the fact that sunlight can actually damage our DNA and skin pigment is a genetic form of sun block. The more pigment there is in our skin, the more sun light gets stopped before it can damage the DNA in our cells.
So why don’t we all have very dark skin? Well we need sunlight to be absorbed through our skin for our bodies to take in vitamin D, which allows us to absorb calcium. A lack of vitamin D causes a disease called Rickets. People who have had Rickets have weak, poorly developed bones, of which a very common symptom is bowed legs.
Since we tend to get plenty of vitamin D in milk and other vitamin-fortified foods these days, rickets has become a rare disease (although there has been some recent growth of rickets in darker skinned people living in cold countries like Russia), but historically it used to be a real problem for anyone travelling to climates in which they had not evolved a natural genetic balance of pigmentation to sun light ratio.
So, people with less skin pigmentation who choose to live in very sunny places are at an increased risk of skin cancer, whereas people with more skin pigmentation who are choose to live in less sunny places are at an increased risk of Rickets.
Some of us have “adjustable” skin color. These people may be light-skinned if they get little sun, but become darker when they get more sun. This is what happens in tanning. The body produces more pigment when it is needed. Some people have more pigment to begin with and their color doesn’t change much. Some people just get freckles, which don’t block much light.
Anyone can get skin cancer even if they have a lot of skin pigment. Any time a person tans or get freckles, it is a sign that they are getting too much sun.
It is a shame that our ancestors developed such hate for each other due to such a random thing as their differences in skin pigmentation, but thanks to the bravery of some of those ancestors we have come to know the truth behind the differences and have made changes in our laws and society to eventually rid us of this random prejudice.
Of course, there will always be people who believe that by focusing on such differences they will gain from doing so. Such hate mongering is as old as the human race itself, but by teaching our kids the truth it will eventually die out… to be replaced, I sadly but realistically suspect, be replaced by some other more modern form of prejudice.

Your not even safe in your own store after hours !!!! The facts are the owner is white and the boys that assaulted him are of color. Just a little advise from someone who knows about street life in Bermuda. Anyone who ends up in an altercation with thug wannabes in Bermuda that gets broken up should be aware that they have become a target for future abuse & should not take what happened lightly even if they got through it unscathed. The one thing these punk thugs hate the most is to be shown up & they will look forward to an opportunity at another confrontation to proves themselves. This is why we read about teens getting caught with weapons on the way to a party either for protection or because they are looking to settle a score.
We reap what we sow! This is a sad, yet solid example of all of our prejudices and lack of social conscience policies colliding… right from the event itself, through its reporting and even in the blog responses. Such a shame.

their black compatriots, a Cornell University-led study finds.
Analyzing the genetic makeup of 20 Americans of European ancestry and 15 African-Americans, researchers found that the former showed much less variation among 10,000 tested genes than did the latter, which was expected.
They also found that Europeans had many more possibly harmful mutations than did African, which was a surprise.

But the Cornell study, published in the journal Nature Thursday, indicates that Europeans went through a second “population bottleneck,” probably about 30,000 years ago, when the ancestral population was again reduced to relatively few in number.

The doubly diluted genetic diversity has allowed “bad” mutations to build up in the European population, something that the more genetically varied African population has had more success in weeding out.
“What we may be seeing is a ‘population genetic echo’ of the founding of Europe,” said Bustamante.

As would be expected with the “out of Africa” theory, the researchers found Africans had the greatest amount of genetic diversity, followed in turn by Middle Easterners, then Europeans and South Asians at about equal levels, then East Asians.

Drawing on 935 individual samples from the French databank, a Stanford University team found deep traces of long-ago population movements, all originating from a “ground zero” in Ethiopia, Kenya or Tanzania.
For example, the Pygmies of the Congo forest were found to be quite close to the Bushmen of Namibia — but both were very different from most other sub-Saharan groups.
The fierce and proud Bedouin nomads of the Middle East actually have a lot of European and South Asian blood.
The Asian-looking Hazara of Afghanistan are correct in claiming ancestry in Mongolia, but the Han, the dominant ethnic group in China, may be disappointed to discover they’re actually two peoples, one north, the other south.

Not only was the region among the first colonized by the African migrants, they theorize, but the large number of European and East Asian genes among the population indicates that it’s long been the human highway, with large numbers of migrants from both directions conquering, trading and generally reproducing along its entire length.
Blacks were the original race on the planet and from the Black race, all other races evolved. Blacks were also the first people to introduce a worldwide culture and advanced civilizations on earth. As far as the rest of the universe is concerned, one should not be surprised if Blacks were also the first to establish civilization in other parts of the Galaxy as well.
Over the past three hundred years, racist theories have been concocted to justify the enslavement and colonization of Blacks on a worldwide scale. Yet, from the 1600′s and back to over twenty thousand years before, Black civilization was the most dominant and most advanced on earth, although in some areas, a small percentage of Blacks, who had escaped slavery and invasions, fled to the remotest parts and regressed in culture. The vast majority of Blacks however, continued to create and sustain vibrant civilizations throughout the world. Slavery, colonialism and oppression was the final blow to contributing to the retardation of African civilization to some extent.

The greatness of the Black race is not a phenomena that developed out of the oppression of other races but out of being the first race on the planet, having the most experience and being ripened by the sun. Thus, the pigment which makes the skin “black” which is called melanin, can be said to have helped the intellectual, material and spiritual advancement of the Black race. It was melanin and the ability to survive in the hot African sun, which led to the further ability to build sedentary civilizations and cultures first in Africa then elsewhere.
THESE ARE SOME OF THE FACTORS WHICH SUPPORT THE GLORIOUS CONTRIBUTIONS OF BLACKS ON A WORLDWIDE SCALE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF HUMAN HISTORY
1. Melanin, the dark pigment in the skin or Black people is a great advantage over those without a significant amount of melanin in their skins.
Those with an excess of melanin in the skin do not experience the disease of skin cancer on the high level that fair skinned people do.
2. The Black skin does not wrinkle or age as fast as the fair skin
3. Melanin contributes to longevity. Black people over the age of ninety who are not sickened by diseases live much longer than other peoples and are much healthier and stronger.
4. Melanin enhances the mental and intellectual abilities as long as there is nothing to prevent the natural development of Black intellectual development, such as inferior education and extreme poverty perpetrated by those who continually keep Blacks in states of oppression.
These are some of the factors that have been overlooked by racist scholars when comparing Black cultures that appear to have regressed materially and culturally:
1. The marginalized Blacks who live on the edge
of great Black civilizations and cultures were few in number, yet European scholars insisted and continue to insist that these represent the ultimate in Black culture and achievements.
2. For the most part, the condition of these Blacks was due to outside invasions and continued attacks on them (such as the pure Black people of Sudan, the Dinka, Nuba, Nuer and Nubians, who were once the masters of ancient Egypt and Nubia-Kush, but are now hunted down or marginalized by the Arab invaders of Sudan). These invasions and wars led to famine and displacement of Africans and their migrations to inaccessible places like swamps, forests or mountains.
3. There are many more people of the Mongoloid
race who lived and continue to live in marginalized or “primitive” conditions in the Americas and Asia, than there are Blacks living in such conditions in Africa or Asia. No one claims that all Mongoloids or Asians are backward because the culture of some hunter-gatherers is not as advanced as that of people like the Chinese or Japanese.
4. European whites of the rural areas of Russia lived and still live in conditions worse than some isolated Africans or Melanesians. These Russians were and still are materially poor, their houses were poorly built and they lived in an economic environment based on hunting and gathering in the forest areas and the tundra.
The difference between the Africans and whites who lived on the edges of their greater, more advanced societies and cultures or from the city and cultural centers was that some Africans dressed to suit the hot, humid and sunny climates of Africa and the tropics, while the Russian peasant and Mongoloids dressed to suit the cold, icy climates of the north. Yet, it is the Africans and Blacks in the tropics whose cultures have developed to a much higher level than the northerners.
