Man Denies Harbouring Fugitive Howard Ascento

September 24, 2013

howard AAppearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Sept 24], Ryan Spencer of Devonshire pleaded not guilty to knowingly harbouring a fugitive from justice, namely Howard Ascento, on 23rd September 2013. The 26-year-old’s bail was set at $5,000 with one surety, and he will stand trial next month.

Howard Ascento [pictured] sprinted out of Magistrates’ Court on September 6th after being sentenced for traffic offences. He has remained at large since that time.

Yesterday a police spokesperson said, “At 2:45pm the joint team of officers from Department of Corrections and Bermuda Police were on patrol looking for fugitive Howard Ascento in the area of Upland Road in Devonshire.

“As police approached the residence, the suspect made good his escape in the surrounding area. As a result, a 26 year old male and a 28 year old female were arrested for harboring a fugitive and a court appearance is expected in the near future.

“It is clear that members of the public have aiding and abetting Ascento, and anyone found doing so will be arrested and put before the courts.

“All sighting of Ascento should be reported to police on 295-0011,” concluded the police spokesperson.

You are right because no other country has had fugitives… Funny thing is that even in huge countries like the US, fugitives will hide and live in the same very small area without being located-sometimes for years… But it’s nice that the armchair peanut gallery who probably don’t contribute much to Bermuda sit and try to score cheap points with lame comments about the BPS and Prisons.
