2nd Annual Rising Chef Of Bermuda Competition

Bermuda Hospitality Institute’s annual fundraiser, “Bermuda’s Rising Chef of the Year Competition” will see former Bermuda College Culinary students and an apprentice of the National Training Board’s culinary apprenticeship program in the line-up, testing their skills against 9 other internationally trained chefs.

Taking part are Bermudians Landis Pedro-Petty, Chef de Partie at Harry’s Restaurant; Michiko Campbell, Chef de Partie at Royal Bermuda Yacht Club; and Kieshé Simmons, Chef apprentice at Fairmont Southampton. Also returning to this year’s competition is Bermuda College Culinary program alum Ryan Lampano, Commis de Cuisine at Cambridge Beach.

“We are excited about the increase of participating young Bermudian Chefs and look forward to seeing them put their education and experience to work,” said Karla Lacey, BHI CEO. “They’ll join a group of competitors representing countries and cuisines from around the world, all sharing their love of culinary arts.”

The competition features a mystery basket format and was created to highlight the talent and dedication of the Island’s culinary professionals wherever they come from, as all play a role in defining and showcasing the Island’s culinary offerings to locals and visitors alike.

Hosted by International Imports, the Semi-Final Cook-Off Rounds are on October 23rd, 24th, 28th & 29th. Three competitors vie each night for the opportunity to take part in the final round on November 1st. Dishes will be judged based on taste, presentation, originality in the use of ingredients and work ethic by a panel of judges. The top chef will win the title of ‘Bermuda’s Rising Chef of the Year 2013’!

Tickets go on sale Friday, October 4th and can be obtained through International Imports. BHI is a non-profit organization with a mandate to lead and encourage the development, growth and sustainability of Bermudians in the Hospitality industry.
