Justin Rose Leads PGA’s Grand Slam Of Golf

October 15, 2013

U.S. Open champion Justin Rose shot 4-under-par 67 today [Oct 15] to grab a 2-stroke lead after the opening round of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.

PGA Champion Jason Dufner carded a 2-under 69, Masters winner Adam Scott shot 1-under 70 and defending champion Padraig Harrington stumbled to a 3-over 74.

The 36-hole event draws the winners of the four major tournaments, however British Open winner Phil Mickelson withdrew and Grand Slam defending champion Padraig Harrington took his place.

Speaking after today’s play, Justin Rose said: “I thought the wind kicked up as we with were playing the ninth hole. That’s when I noticed it, or maybe that’s where I noticed it because that’s where I made my first bogey, anyway.

“So I felt like I didn’t really play my best today but I kept the ball out of some really bad spots out there on the golf course. I felt like I putted really well today. I felt like I read the greens well.

“There’s quite a bit of break. I felt like I had a lot of putts that I was playing two, three, four cups outside the hole. But for the most part, I read the greens well, which I think translated into one, two, three, four, five, six — seven birdies.

“If I can do that again tomorrow and clean up a couple of mistakes, swing the putter a little bit better, should be a good day,” said Mr Rose.
