Christmas Community Outreach “Gift of Giving”

November 26, 2013

Bermuda Broadcasting Company, through Community Voices host Gina Spence, has partnered once again with Gina Spence Productions in Christ to launch: Christmas Community Outreach “The Gift of Giving”.

The Christmas Community Outreach “The Gift of Giving” campaign will help and support children and seniors to obtain items that will help them during these challenging times, notably healthy food items for children and Phoenix gift cards for seniors to purchase much-needed medical items.

A spokesperson said, “GSPIC, also known as Gina Spence Productions in Christ [registered charity #856], has been selected to oversee the receipt of donations from the community on behalf of lead sponsor, BBC.

“This year GSPIC will work with Age Concern and The Aerie Foundation [both are senior organizations] who are beneficiaries of the campaign.

“Last year, GSPIC worked with The Coalition for the Protection of Children, but this year GSPIC will distribute healthy food packs to needy children [island-wide].

“More specifically, GSPIC has developed a database of children they supported with school uniforms and healthy food items in the past year. Some are victims: children ranging from 3 years old who were left behind from gun violence.

“The senior medical health card program and healthy food items for children (left behind by the gun violence) are exclusively GSPIC programs. They work in partnership with nutritionists, counselors and case workers to develop programs to match specific needs for children and seniors.

“This year due to the economic downturn and loss of over 2,000 jobs the numbers of those seeking assistance is expected to increase.

“This year the goal is to raise $20,000 to assist every child and senior that requires assistance.

“To assist, feel free to contribute any amount toward the purchase of a medical gift card for seniors or healthy non-perishable food items for children by donating to the Gina Spence Productions’ HSBC bank account [No. 002-051928-001; mark it “For Seniors” or for “For Children” respectively]. GSPIC has partnered with BGA to purchase non-perishables so that individual food packs can be created for the (nominated) children.

“Donations can also be made by making a contribution to any check-out register at any one of the six Phoenix Stores, Brown & Company or P-Tech. Those funds will be used to purchase gift cards that will allow seniors to get much-needed medical items.

“The deadline for giving to this worthwhile project is November 30, 2013.

“After the deadline, there will be a Pre-Christmas party on Saturday, December 7, 2013 to distribute the healthy food gift packs to the children and the gift cards to the seniors. The party will take place at Bermuda Broadcasting Company from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and will be broadcast live on Community Voices 89.1.

“Santa will make an appearance at 3:00 pm and there will be lots of local entertainment [that includes Nadanja, Elca Maranzana, Larrita Adderley, Tricray, Filipino Dancers, Chris Broadhurst, Whoppa Benz, Northlands Primary School Choir]. Interviews, clips and footage of the event will be aired on BBC during the Christmas holiday. In case of rain, the party will be held on the fourth floor of the Washington Mall, Church Street, Hamilton.

“This is the second year of Christmas outreach for GSPIC. To nominate a child or senior, please visit our website and go to the Nomination page. To find out more information please visit their website or call Gina Spence at 704-0224.”
