Hope the people are OK.
Dang! That’s some serious damage to those vehicles!
Hope the injured make a full recovery. Question for Bernews. I understand why you block out licence plate numbers in photos, but why street names?
Morning Margaret, the street name isn’t blocked, and is actually included in the article, however after reading this we see what you mean, as one photo appears that way due to a reflection. Recall these were taken at around 3am, which is not exactly the optimal time for photography as lighting issues can arise!
Can someone tell whichever driver or if both are at fault that the speed limit is 35 KPH , one or both of them was doing very excessive speeds to cause that amount of damage while putting other road users lives in jeopardy!!! It just makes me angry that we all pay for stuff like this through high insurance premiums!!! I hope who ever is at fault for once gets dealt with severely by the law!!!!,
The car existing the stop; from off the hill is at fault. Speed unknown. Deftly some severe damages.
According to the Police it appears both cars were being driven along Middle Road – no one was coming off of Christ Church Lane and with damage that bad and the road being wet that is enough to spin the cars around. So I guess we must wait for the full accident report to find out who is a fault – it is never wise to assume.
It doesn’t appear that the road was wet when the accident occurred. If you look at the third picture the road beneath the Opel (Dark Blue car) is dry. Which indicates that the road became wet after the accident.
Fruity, You have no idea what you’re talking about. Makes me laugh when people make s*** up and have no clue. The small car hit the station wagon full on so hard that it sent her car spinning and up the hill backwards! The small car was also in the wrong lane and yes…. he was speeding.
Well what makes you an authority? where did you get your facts!!!??? “people stop assuming!!!!”
Is that all you are worried about, your dang insurance. Insurance is a rip off anyway. Be more concerned with the people involved in the accident. This could be you one day. Inconsiderate people honestly.
….and no one was speeding right? Isn’t that always the story?
Good morning Bernews! I was referring to the side street sign, not Middle Rd. Thanks for the explanation and for checking the photo.
stop trolling… What does the side street sign matter, unless your being pure noseyness. If you care and know your island, it is easy to determine where this is (its a distinctive white wall).
What is your problem “This special island”? I was polite to Bernews and thanked them for their response. I had no intention to “troll” or be nosey. I was wondering where it was as I thought it might be a frequent accident spot. Have a wonderful day.
How wude!
wishing both parties a speedy recovery.
Would be nice to see more cars ticketed for speeding. Really getting sick of being passed by cars clocking at who knows what speed!! Especially in the morning when people are jogging and walking! Really live it when a car dangerously passes other vehicles, then turn on the next freaking road!! #start busting these offenders before innocent people die authorities!!
Agreed!
It’s more likely to get killed by a vehicle in Bermuda than a bullet but it seems most of the police focus goes to shooters than reckless drivers.
Another thing that needs to happen is Minister Dunkley & Crockwell should take walks along the roads in bermuda & also ride tourist bikes on those roads to see what pedestrians & tourist have to go through. If BPS are not willing to sort out the reckless driving than maybe once the ministers walk a mile in someone else’s shoes they will get more speed bumps constructed throughout the island.
Tommy Chong, smh. Are you gonna pay for the damage to the vehicles that have to go over several speed bumps daily?
All of the cars brought here have good enough suspension systems to not damage over a bump just as long as your not speeding. Only other way they’d get damaged is if you drop them down in which case they’d eventually get damaged anyway from all the turns.
Dr. Francioni has already pointed out in his speeches how the amount of accidents on Bermuda’s road have immensely affected everyone’s insurance premiums.
you can give out as many ticket as you like. People speed from every country, race, etc. people are people. We all wish to change things in the World, but speeding will never change. Sometimes people going too slow need to be ticketed as well as they can cause accidents
Many other countries do not have 4 main roads like we do here, and ticketing until licenses are revoked and tcd is taken away will definitely help. This island has a very high police to resident ratio and I’m not just talking simple speeding- cars and bikes are traveling 70-100k and hour- criminal! This is still one of the richest countries in the world and there is no excuse for the number of drunk drivers and speeders on our roads
Oh gosh. I hope everyone is ok.
Considering the time of the day (night), I feel that both drivers should be tested for alcohol, if not already a routine procedure. I’m not saying that alcohol was consumed by either of the drivers, but we have to admit that it is a possibility.
This could have been much worse, looking at the damage… Loss of life on the road is so unnecessary and should be prevented at all costs. Saying things like “accidents happen” does not make those who have lost loved ones or have become seriously injured feel any better. We should not be saying that “every year 5 to 15 people will die on our roads”. Why can’t we drink and drive more responsibly? We should be looking forward to saying that “no one died in 2014″.
Hopefully the 49-year old man fully recovers/recovered as well after treatment.
You sound retarded saying that 5 to 15 people will die on our roads every year because accidents do happen, well they do so get over it, don’t be ignorant about it. Exactly why Bermuda is such a close-minded place. Even most Americans can accept this fact. Like seriously you ignorant bermudians need a mind expansion cause logically s*** happens people.
Until the Bermuda culture changes…more people will die in accidents like this. One more for the road is NOT A WISE CHOICE!!
Your not sure! Keep it to yourself!
How do you know if one of them was already trying to get a sick person to the hospital at that time of the morning, just saying.
a picture tells a 1000 words!
“tells a 1000 words”…really? “SPEAKS A 100 words”
It is all down to speed speed speed people! It is not rocket science!
Bigger bikes and cars go faster and less people know the rules of the road!
People just cannot drive and are not trained to drive at speed!
Get back to the basics – what does a yellow centre line in the road mean?
What is the speed limit? Do you give way all day at north roundabout when
approaching from Harbour road? Bet 75% of you get all of them wrong!
People need to just stop assuming and wait for the “FACTS”…typical Bermudian way of thinking…”I know because…” People just take a brake you don’t know who is reading your comments!
@Lou Lou Walker – Speed mate – look at the damage to the vehicles – does not happen like that at even 50 kph!
Somebody answer my previous questions and prove me right please?
Okay okay so I hope both parties are good and well. First of all you angry bermudians need to relax. Secondly accidents are unexpected events they will happen regardless, and as for big cars some people don’t need them. Lastly, if you all who stick your cars out in the road because you feel that it will slow down someone and help You to get on the main road STOP because YOU are the number one killer, it clearly makes no sense unless you have money. Plus these insurance companies should be in debt with the way half of you treat your vehicles.
Have you ever drove a car here? Most driveways in Bermuda are impossible to see out of until you are already in the road. Most of us know this and try to help out.
both drivers doing(approx.) 50 kph = 100 kph impact both came to a dead stop and bounced around to face each other once again, colliding driver side headlights…simple deduction. One other thing no one ever mentions…people having to hug the center line due to the atrocious conditions of the left side of the lanes with gutter drains like potholes, uneven or crumbled tarmac and of course our imfamous trenchers that cant perform the job that they are paid to do by returning the surface to its original,if not better condition. Also it does play havoc on your steering and left side tires AND for all you “35kph” drivers this could be a problem for you with your inability to handle and control your vehicle under emergency conditions.
