Festival To Feature O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey

December 27, 2013

The Bermuda Festival will soon be presenting a production of “Long Day’s Journey into Night,” a play written by former Bermuda resident and renowned playwright Eugene O’Neill.

Nobel Prize-winning playwright Eugene O’Neill lived in Bermuda for three years, and while on the island, planted the seeds for his Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece “Long Day’s Journey into Night”.

The play comes to Bermuda in a production specially created for the Bermuda Festival, directed by Bermudian Timothy Trimingham Lee with a British and American cast and creative team.

The design team consists of Martin Thomas [2012 Off West End Award for Best Costume Design], Howard Hudson [2011 and 2012 Off West End Awards for Lighting Design], and Rob Hart [sound for BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award-winning documentary short].

The cast features John Atterbury [Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix], Joyce Springer [Les Misérables], Joe Jameson [Great Expectations], and Samuel John [The Importance of Being Earnest].

Long Day’s Journey into Night tells of a family in crisis. A mother, father, and two sons struggle against each other, themselves, and the choices, voices, and vices that trap them. Humorous, moving, and atmospheric, O’Neill’s unflinching portrait of his nearest and dearest is dramatic dynamite and not to be missed.

Presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc, “Long Day’s Journey into Night” will be presented in Bermuda on two separate nights at The Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall. The first production will take place on Friday, January 31 at 8.00pm, while the second production will take place on Sunday, February 2 at 2.30pm.

Tickets for both shows are available at BDAtix.com.
