Hospital Board’s Variety Show Raises $10,000

April 23, 2014

Bermuda Hospitals Board has donated more than $10,000 to the “Why it Matters” campaign, all thanks to their recent variety show, held on March 29, 2014.

A spokesperson said, “There is no telling what can happen when a committed group of individuals put their minds together and that is certainly true of the organising committee behind the recent Bermuda Hospitals Board Variety Show, held on March 29, which successfully raised over $10,000 for the Why it Matters campaign.

“The committee of nine included Beverly Marshall, Rosemarie Phillips, Tina Dillas, Donna Stowe, Derek Caines, Kenneth Simons, Carol Wade, Dorothy Ann Lacey and Preston Swan. The idea came to Beverly Marshall, who got the ball rolling and the right people on board.”

“There are so many staff members who are talented entertainers,” said Ms. Marshall. “I thought bringing them together would result in a wonderful evening of real family entertainment. When I mentioned it to a few other staff I discovered they shared my view. So we decided to do it as a fundraiser for the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust.”

Mr. Philip Butterfield, Chairman of Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust [BHCT], said, “On behalf of BHCT, I would like to congratulate Ms. Marshall and the entire organising committee on such a fantastic and successful event.”

“From nearly filling Ruth Seaton James Auditorium to the exciting performances on stage, the event was a huge success in many ways. The committee, which started with no funds but plenty of faith, managed to pull together a show filled with dancing, singing, comedy, acting, and magic thanks to some generous sponsors and their hard work.

“From the start we were always hoping to raise at least $10,000,” said Derek Caines. “We’re all so proud that we made and surpassed our goal.”

“To date, several Bermuda Hospitals Board staff members and departments have made significant contributions to the new acute care wing. Some collected pledges to run the May 24 Half Marathon last year, while others have organized bake sales, denim days, and karaoke nights; combined, all of these events have raised over $17,000. In addition to these activities, many individuals have made significant personal contributions through direct gifts and a payroll giving initiative available to all BHB staff.

“BHCT thanks BHB’s Allied Health Services, Environmental Services Department, Diagnostic Imaging Department, Department of Finance, the IV Nurses and, of course, everyone who has supported these
fundraising initiatives.

“All told, BHB has raised just over $47,100 for the Why it Matters campaign to date.”
