Photos: Tributes ‘Etched In Stone’ At KEMH

July 6, 2016

At noon yesterday [July 5], a small group of supporters gathered to have their photos taken with the engraved bricks they purchased to honour family members, friends and loved ones at the entrance to the new Acute Care Wing at the King Edward Memorial Hospital.

A spokesperson said, “As an ongoing fundraising campaign for the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust, the legacy bricks are purchased by individuals or groups and then engraved with a special message.

“The bricks are carefully installed by Horsfield Landscape and Design and become a part of the living legacy that marks the entrance to the new Acute Care Wing at the King Edward Memorial Hospital.”

“Many supporters find great comfort in knowing their loved one’s memory is a part of a lasting legacy and the tribute is literally etched in stone for all to see and admire as they pass by. There are many bricks memorializing deceased loved ones, but there are also engraved bricks that honour the living; individuals, groups, businesses and families.

“One of the recent installations was in honour of a charitable group which ceased functioning earlier this year. This particular group feel their years of charitable work are now “carved in stone.”

“As healthcare in Bermuda is a vital part of enjoying first world privileges, support for the hospital and its functions are always at the fore of the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust.

“Buying a brick is not only a great way to memorialize a loved one, friend or family member but also to commemorate a group, support from a small business, or an event important to your personal history. Buy a brick – build a legacy. Preserver your place in history by purchasing a brick today.”
