April 23, 2014

Competing for Virginia State University this past weekend, Bermuda’s Taylor-Ashley Bean recorded two wins at the 2014 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship held in Petersburg, Virginia.

Bean placed 2nd in the Women’s 800 Meter Run clocking a time of 2:14.95. Bean would then win Women’s 1500 Meter Run in a time of 4:47.52, which she followed up with another win in the Women’s 3000 Meter Run, crossing  the line in a time of 10:42.84.

She also ran the third leg for the Virginia State University Women’s 4×400 Meter Relay team that finished 4th clocking a time of 3:52.44.

Virginia State finished third overall, and Head Coach Jason-Lamont Jackson stated: “This was a great performance by our women’s team. Johnson C Smith is ranked number one in the country and I believe St. Augustines is in the top 10.

“We were a bit short on numbers compared to them, but I couldn’t be more excited about the future of the program and looking forward to next year. Our women’s team won our first championship in school history in 2012 and we are looking to bring that title home in the next year or two.

“The CIAA is one of the top two or three toughest conferences in the NCAA and you must bring your best each and every time you compete.”
