BPS Plays Revitalized Role In Bermuda Day
The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] is well-known on the island for the important work they do, but many of its members are being recognized for a different kind of contribution after seeing BPS participation in Bermuda Day events revitalized this year.
Building on 135 years of community activity, BPS enjoyed a number of honours during the holiday, with its members standing out in the Appleby Bermuda Half Marathon Derby, the Sinclair Packwood Memorial cycle race, and the Bermuda Day Parade.
A police spokesperson said, “A total of 36 police personnel, including officers, Reserves, cadets, and support staff took part in the Appleby Bermuda Half Marathon Derby, with PC Stephen Allen achieving third place overall.
“PC Shannon Lawrence and PC Zoenique Williams won the male and female categories of the Sinclair Packwood Memorial cycle race, respectively.
“Finally, thanks to PC Kim Spring and all of the volunteers – too many to mention – who committed over 100 hours to producing a traditional parade float, the police entry in the Bermuda Day Parade was a success, earning first place for Best Government Department and the Reggie Ming Award for Most Beautiful Float.”
Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva said, “Congratulations are in order for PC Shannon Lawrence and PC Zoenique Williams for their wins in the Sinclair Packwood Memorial cycle race.”
“Congratulations to PC Stephen Allen for taking third place in the Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby. Congratulations to PC Kim Spring for leading the police entry in the Bermuda Day Parade and taking first place for Best Government Department and the Reggie Ming Award for Most Beautiful Float.”

Well Done BPS.
Interesting…….BPS protecting and serving Bermuda for 135 years…..yet on the float is a person being ducked in water and a slave being hung in the stocks with a cop on the back waving his hand as if to say move along nothing to see here…………subliminal message maybe? All I know is, 135 years ago to my knowledge those two particular things were not being practiced. I really feel this float is a jab at our heritage and us as Bermudians. Maybe I am reading to much into it, but I am offended none the less.
ABM clearly hasn’t been to the old town of St George’s where thousands of tourist and Bermudians pose in the stocks for photo’s and they regularly allow tourist to duck a mouthy female as entertainment..
And since when did slaves where pink Bermuda shorts? The Bermuda Day theme was Bermuda’s historical treasures. Not Bermuda Police History!
Stop trying to put a negative spin on things.
Humanise them…good idea…
