2014 Bermuda Day Parade Float Award Winners
Today’s [May 26] Bermuda Day Parade was a hit with celebrants, with thousands of people lining the streets to cheer on the all of those participating in the Parade, which included a number of intricately decorated floats.
Awards were handed out for the best floats in a number of categories, with the Bermuda Police Service winning for Best Government Department and the Reggie Ming Award for Most Beautiful, Troika winning the L.C.C.A. Award for Best Charity Organization, and Vasco Da Gama Club winning the Best Community/Volunteer/Political Award.
Sandy’s Secondary Middle School won the D. J. Williams Award for Best Middle School and the Ruth Thomas Heritage Award, while CedarBridge Academy won the Dr. Marjorie Bean Award for Best Senior School and the Minister’s Award for Most Original. Mr. Gladwyn Smith won the Mrs. J.J. Outerbridge Award for Best Individual and the Premier’s Award for Best Float.
Rounding out the honoured floats were “Hennessey’s Official Day in the Parade” [Ms. Alexandria Dowling], who placed second for the Mrs. J.J. Outerbridge Award for Best Individual, the Bermuda Shrine Club, who placed second for the L.C.C.A. Award for Best Charity Organization, the Department of Corrections and the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs, who placed second and third for Best Government Department respectively, and Simmons’ Family & Friends and Open Your Heart Foundation, who placed second and third for Best Community/Volunteer/Political Award, respectively.
