May 27, 2014

[Updated] Thousands of enthusiastic spectators lined the streets as the Bermuda Day parade swirled through the streets of Hamilton featuring flower-bedecked floats, majorettes, Gombey troupes and other participants all celebrating the island’s 400-year-old cultural heritage.

Update:  We have finished posting all the videos, with the 40 videos below showing the races plus all the groups that took part in the Parade, consisting of almost 2 hours of coverage. As we have somewhat overloaded the page with 40 videos, it may be slow to load, our apologies for this!

  1. Hey says:

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2014 Bermuda Day Parade and managed to still get up and go to school and work the next day! However, I am a bit disappointed in few groups such as the St George’s Dancerettes and PHC. There were not many people who participated this year. Usually these groups have tons and tons of people.

    • mommyoftwo says:

Why are you disappointed? They only did what they been doing the past 12 years no change. This just shows the hype was only about their prior large numbers. Quality over quantity. But I guess it was reverse for them. Nevertheless good job everyone!

      • mommyoftwo says:

Oh my comment is about PHC.

        • Fruity says:

Can you confirm that they’ve been doing the “same” thing over the past years?

          • mommyoftwo says:

My reference to “same thing” is they went out giving the best performance they can like in prior years. Why people feel it is a difference and disappointed now? Ah my guess is the small numbers!!!!

    • Hmph says:

It’s obvious y the majorette groups were and are small…children/young ladies are all migrating to Dance Groups.

What dissappoints me is that i see no pride, passion and enjoyment with these dance groups as they are growing. You know your routine so when its time to showcase show that you love and enjoy what you are doing; otherwise you look boring and dry. It also shows that you appreciate and are thankful for your country folk in light of the fact that some if not all of the groups had little fundraisers to support.

It’s never about quatity…its about quality and in my opinion the Majorettes always show a bit more passion and pride in what they do.

I Miss Bermuda Donquili African drummers and dancers, will never forget the year they performed…hope to see them next year!

      • Donquili says:

Glad you enjoyed us! We plan to be there next year too.

  5. Time Shall Tell says:

Sandy’s Secondary Middle & Berkeley Institute, great job guys. It’s nice to see actual instruments being used vs blurring pre-recorded songs on almost every float. I am sorry to say due to commitments I wasn’t able to attend to the parade & while I saw a couple in these videos, there seems to be a decline of actual hand made floral floats being entered compared to years gone past.

  6. Back to Basics says:

This is one holiday which brings the whole community together, if only for a few hours! There were two areas of concern from my camp; the extraordinarily loud music from a few entries which caused most of us to block our ears until they were out of earshot, and the PHC entry group which saw fit to lead the group with babies carried by two women. One was driving the lead vehicle with the baby in arms. What were they thinking? These are newborns driving behind diesel trucks and loud music. Do not sacrifice the children just so they can look cute in matching outfits! They deserve better.

  7. Fruity says:

Diverse Conception had the BEST length skirts. Very nice!!!!
