BRSC Chairman Urges Holiday Caution

May 22, 2014

The Bermuda Road Safety Council [BRSC] has extended its warm wishes to the people of Bermuda on the pending celebration of Heritage Day, while also urging all celebrants to be cautious and safe during the holiday.

BRSC Chairman Carlton Crockwell said, “This Bermuda Day weekend, the Road Safety Council is asking all of Bermuda to remember to think about your driving habits and the choices you make when driving, to choose to make better decisions when driving/riding, and to live to celebrate special moments with your loved ones.

“There are several ways we can think, choose, and live. We must adhere to the speed limit at all times. We must remain focused on the driving task only, avoiding the use of technology such as cell phones and iPods, and ensure that, if we celebrate with alcohol, we do not get behind the wheel and drive.

“We applaud the Bermuda Police Service for their work to enforce the rules of the roads. Recently, there has been a marked increase in the number of collisions on our roads; we must do all we can to discourage this trend. We need to support their efforts and do all that we can to ensure safety on the roads.

“Bermuda Day is our opportunity to celebrate all that is great about Bermuda – let us continue to work together to ensure that we all think, choose, and live, and celebrate life long after this festive time is over.”
