BRSC Issues Safety Appeal For Bermuda Day
The Bermuda Road Safety Council [BRSC] has issued a safety appeal ahead of Bermuda Day, urging motorists to drive responsibly and avoid impaired driving.
Chairman of the Bermuda Road Safety Council Altonio Roberts said, “The Bermuda Road Safety Council and I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have recently lost their lives on our roads. Any loss of life is a tragedy, and our community mourns with those who are grieving. We are reminded, once again, of the importance of safety and responsibility behind the wheel. Our thoughts are with all affected during this difficult time, and we stand committed to doing everything we can to prevent future tragedies.
“As we prepare to celebrate Bermuda Day and the commencement of our summer festivities, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the significance of this special occasion. Bermuda Day is a time for us to relax, enjoy our vibrant culture, and spend quality moments with family, friends, and colleagues. It’s a celebration of our heritage, our unity, and our community spirit. I encourage everyone to embrace this weekend with joy and gratitude, making it a memorable and safe time for all.
“However, amidst the festivities, it is crucial that we remain vigilant and responsible, especially when it comes to road safety. If you plan to involve yourself in alcohol or other substances, please make the right decision — ensure you have a designated driver or alternative transportation. There is zero tolerance for intoxication while operating a vehicle on Bermuda’s roads. Doing so not only endangers your life but also the lives of others — a risk we cannot afford to take.
“The Bermuda Road Safety Council fully supports the efforts of the Bermuda Police Service and all law enforcement personnel working tirelessly to keep our roads safe. We call on all members of our community to be vigilant, responsible, and respectful of road safety laws. Let’s work together to ensure that Bermuda Day remains a celebration of culture and community, marked by safety and care.
“On behalf of the Bermuda Road Safety Council, I wish everyone a joyful, safe, and Happy Bermuda Day. Let us honour those we have lost by committing to safer roads and responsible choices this holiday weekend and beyond.
“Changing Minds, Changing Behaviours.”
