Ms Simpson leaving Court today

Simpson

Justice Charles-Etta Simmons described the attack on the female victim as unprovoked, and said that the victim was left with a permanent scar on her face and lips and had eating difficulties because of that.

Following the assault, Ms Simpson and her boyfriend left Bermuda the next day for a holiday in New York.

A police statement after the incident said, “Police are appealing for witnesses in the assault of a 31 year old Smiths woman, that took place at 12:30am on Wednesday Morning New Year’s Day at Pier Six.

“The victim, states that she was at Pier 6 at a New Year’s celebration when an unknown female walked up to her asking her ‘why are you talking to him’. The suspect then assaulted the Smith’s woman.

“This resulted in the victim being taken to the hospital where she required facial surgery. The suspect is described as a white female 5’8 to 5’10 feet tall, thin framed, with dark hair and a British accent.”

  1. Coffee says:

That’s it ! Two years for inflicting such horrific damages to an unsuspecting victim ! May the crown appeal this sentence .

    • Brown girl says:

Two years is better than what my attackers got – NOTHING AT ALL and one of them was actually found guilty!!! smdh!! The system sucks!!! I’ll let karma get them back tho’. She never fails! :-(

    • Cleancut says:

      2 years + deportation.

      • BI says:

Why should we pay for her to be here eating our food, drinking our water, taking up our jail space, for two years, when we can solve the threat she poses to society by sending her back immediately? Most guest workers are sufficiently motivated by fear of losing their job, home, friends, etc., that fear of deportation is enough to keep them behaving.

        • gate says:

Thats a shallow mentality. How many bermudians are in us and british jails ? More than foreigners are in bda jails. Another lesson for you Bi, guest workers skilled like her come to bda as fully fledged workers, skilled and with experience, and immediately are productive as soon as they land on the island. They would have been born somewhere and all costs associated with bringing up a child to be an adult, from birth and maternity fees, education, academically and professionally is all not from bda . It time pple shud appreciate foreigners for coming as a “complete and profitable product ” to help boost this island s economy. Most likely, pple like you Bi havent ploughed back less that 0.5 % of what this island invested on you . Respect pple from other countries justnlike you would want bdans respected overseas. Thank you.

          • Joonya says:

Not to worry Gate, BI is one of those dreamers who thinks the world revolves around Bermuda. Clueless..

            • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

i agree with you Joonya and Gate, but just like every other subject on here you cant say “Bermudians”…its just a segment of our society, a brood of infestuous serpents which has this mentality that even I as a Grass Roots Bermudian cannot grasp…once again their comments wreak of “Entitlement”. I only have one question for them when they spout off at the mouth and it goes like this…”Who daf#q!! YOU think YOU are!..?”

              • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

thanks for the overwhelming dislikes for these 3 comments…Truths are rarely popular.

        • But its fine for them to pay your taxes. She hasnt deserved this. As there is always 2sides to a story. The tax she has paid will pay for her being in prison. Our our our imagine if we said that when you lot come to england. We’d be racist. But as usual your kind of people are the biggest racists out there. Get all the facts before you judge someone. Hypocrite

    • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

      wa ya talk???…murderers get less…

  2. One thing I will say about the learned Judge Charles Etta Simmons, she don’t play games and mostly all of the case’s I have followed that she has ruled over, she has 99% of the time given fair rulings.

This young woman was given a two year sentence that will be reduced and back out before you know it, but the young lady with the scars has been given a life sentence, somewhere in our near future I would like to see people given compensation from the attackers, and not from the compensation board, which is the government purse. we the tax payers.

    • Brown girl says:

I feel like Charles Etta lets people off. Idk. I had her as the judge in my case. I agree – it’s a lifelong sentence when you are attacked and scarred and the courts make a mockery out of it!!

    • Heavens says:

can the victim sue for damages separately in Bermuda courts?

      • Triangle Drifter says:

To my best knowledge, yes they can. The conviction in the criminal case is a strong bit of evidence for the civil case. Sue for damages & legal costs. Trouble is, does the person being sued have any assets to claim on.

Getting court ordered payments from Civil Court is anther joke & a half.

        • MAKE MY DAY says:

Drifter… Especially in larger “jurisdictions” like the US or UK – as people “move around”!!

      • marge says:

You people do like sticking the boot in,nasty minds

  3. haha says:

Wha bus ya catch girl?! Damn!

  4. Nunya says:

Can we send her home for being a menace to society please? I don’t want to have to fund her stay in our correctional facility. Let the Queen deal with her.

    • Y-Gurl says:

Let’s hope The United Kingdom doesn’t go along with that stupid statement about all the Bermudains over there that break the law

      • DK says:

Too bad we are ENTITLED to live there though you moron.

        • WCO8 says:

You probably have been told this most of your life….your missing the point!

    • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

shes NOT a menace to society…why not let her continue to work as per usual BUT make her pay restitution to the courts and/or victim…it saves taxpayers money(no prison costs) her employer can continue to profit from her skills(hopefully employer is Bermudian)an so on down the line…

  5. mixitup says:

And when she gets out, straight to LF Wade Intl. Airport on the next thing smoking back to the UK.

    • mixitup says:

Wow 20 Dislikes? I wonder why? What should be done? Riiight…Give her Permanent Residency, my bad.

  6. Seabee says:

WOW, deal drug you’ll get less time.

  7. xxclusivee says:

Noooooo… say it not so darn bae wa happened shut just got real

    • xxclusivee says:

Damn bae s*** just got real @autocorrect

  8. One Down says:

One crazy … woman down, several more to go. Needz to be layin off de Zinfandel.

  9. Darwin's Child says:

Good luck maintaining those fancy highlights at Co-ed Miss Simpson.

    Best wishes to the victim

  10. DK says:

She looks so devastated…not! Did they do a psychological evaluation? She sounds crazy. Send her back home whenever she’s released(probably 6 months from now). We have enough crazies here already, no need to import more.

  11. Name and shame says:

Post it on a UK news website. The queen don’t play with people like her. In UK she’d have gotten no less than 5!!!

    • MAKE MY DAY says:

      That depends on many things!!!

    • You must be joking. She’d be out within 6months in England you retard. And The queen dont do sh**. Get your facts straight. I was cut cross the jugular and the crackhead done 10 months. You people know f**k all

    • marge says:

She would of got a night in the cells and a telling off

  12. Mcrobinsonn says:

The police officers facial expression in the second picture… LMFAOOO

    • enough says:

Corrections officer but yes, not a proud moment lol.

  13. Looking in says:

I guess her chances of getting status are over!

  14. really... says:

The only winner in the case was the boyfriend. At least he has the crazy girlfriend locked up!

  15. sadday says:

I’m sorry but this is absurd. Just send her home… what a waste of time and money. It was NOT unprovoked either, unfortunately the best witness has been told by her husband to hush. So wrong… she knows who she is too. I hope you sleep well tonight!

    • umm says:

Provoked or not, she slashed a person’s face. In what dream world do you live where that is okay? I know her too, and in no way would I condone that behavior. Its disgusting. She made a mistake, but she must face consequences. If there were none, what would deter people from slashing people’s faces?

      • bogeg says:

If you knew her youd know that when she said she ment to just throw wine over the woman youd know that to be a true statement. Nobody condones violence but a kind girl like nat back home who laughed at jealousy, went and landed a dream job to bermuda, met a *** which obviously made her jealous and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Poor girl….. thoughts with her family

    • Terra says:

Even if someone insults your mom, you don’t slice them. It’s a criminal offence to do that! Smdh…

    • Been There Done That says:

Well of you know wjat happened, why didnt you come forward?

    • Common Sense says:

There was not a single shred of evidence given in court to suggest that this vicious attack was provoked IN ANY WAY, not did the defence lawyer raise that suggestion. Justice has been served.

    • Varsus says:

She threw a glass of wine over her and it slipped out of her hand. The girl was hurt bad, and that’s not good, but she didn’t mean this.

Don’t jump to crazy, small minded conclusions.

  16. casanova says:

on a side note she kinda cute :-)

    • shawn says:

      the crazy ones always r

    • MT says:

Ppl that inflict pain and grievous bodily harm on ppl are NOT cute! You don’t put your hands on anyone! The victim has difficulty eating and is scared for life….do you understand that? If this was done to your mother, sister, daughter, niece, wld you say the same thing? No I don’t think so!! Hv a seat with your stupid comment…………DUST!

  17. jayme says:

Ship her home we dont need to be paying to keep her here.

  18. PANGAEA says:

Correct me if i am wrong.

    Bermuda has a Shipping registry

If you own a Ship of British Registry and fly the flag of a ” BRITISH SHIP” and you are caught, using that vessel being tried and convicted of a crime in a court of law in that country, you will serve time in that country and upon your return you will again face another court and ordered to serve equal time as a guest of the Queen.

  19. JUNK YARD DOG says:

Send the total bill to the head of the families of all prison inmates for room board and security expenses.

Why should tax payers have to pay the bill we have committed no crime.

    • marge says:

There families have done nothing wrong

    • marge says:

Why should the families pay they have done nothing wrong

  20. shawn says:

    oh stop u people
whenever u commit a crime in a foreign contry u r subject to trial and conviction and time served in that country. nobody wants to pay to keep ANYBODY in jail, but if u jus send em home thats not a deterrent cause they r free. trus me it doesnt work for the americans with repeat mexicans sneaking cross the border into texas n california, nor the cubans that ,if they dont make it to shore, are jus rounded up n sent back -at taxpayers expense

  21. MT says:

Karma is certainy a b*tch! Don’t feel sorry for her in the least. Don’t go around assaulting ppl and scaring ppl…..just because they were talking to someone……grow up! Ppl can talk to who they want to….it’s a free world! After she does her time send her a** back to the UK! Next time don’t be rude to ppl Misssssss Simpson because the ones you’ve been rude to are hving the last laugh now….and we were lucky because God let us watch. Your nasty, selfish and rude behaviour has come back to you and bit you right in the a**……..!!!!

    • marge says:

Karma is a bitch.I feel it will be coming your way real soon

  22. Island Girl says:

I’ve known Natalie for a few years and I’ve known her to be a very sweet girl. I am in no way saying that these actions were horrific but it seems like alcohol and jealousy can even make the nicest of us act a little crazy. I would like to know the full story.

  23. Island Girl says:

    ***weren’t horrific

  24. lola lovitte says:

Shes done nothing that dosnt happen in British nightclubs every weekend up n down our country only bonus she’s got is Bermuda is nice n warm umlike our prisons miserable plus cold n raining hahaha

  25. macdad says:

Lol why you fools complaining??! This is what happens with a western corrupt system….let it have happened in the east and you would see real justice that will make many think twice. #deal with what you fools voted for and stop whinning!!

  26. Bermuda1st says:

And i thought it was we Bermudians who were the Zenophobic ones. If the shoe was on the other foot. A lot of you people who are on the side of this deranged individual side. Would be asking for the book to be thrown at her. And how Bermudas reputation would be tarnished. She should have gotten more time. And upon her release taken directly to the airport and deported.

  27. MW says:

Is she pregnant? If so, I’m guessing she’ll be out of jail pretty soon….

  28. whatever says:

You all think she the only foreign here in prison and the more people in prison the more money the prison makes there’s a prison in Sweden the closed down because they didn’t have enough people in prison there

  29. nai says:

    Shorty fine af tho still…

  30. sassymama2 says:

DEPORT her back to her OWN country and ler her fight not just her OWN country men/women but the many foreigners in her OWN country…. that should be a KICK

  31. laura says:

This is absolutely ridiculous. Does it really mean Bermudians r this low. This lady is an innocent woman.

    • Unbelievable says:

I would like to direct you to the prior reporting where she admitted to the crime http://bernews.com/2014/03/24-yr-old-woman-admits-new-years-eve-assault/
Whether provoked or not provoked, no human has the right to harm another human (especially with the type of harm the she admitted to). If she is innocent, why did she admit to it?
And do you know for a fact that it is all Bermudians who are commenting here? How nice of you to generalise.

      • marge says:

I think most of us know its “Bermudians” commenting on here by the nasty tone.

    • marge says:

The people of Bermuda are the lowest of low!

  32. Yeesh! says:

Revolk her work permit, lock her up for the full 2 years without parole, escort her to the airport to BA the day she is released and put her on the stop list…….nah come back nah more!

    • Really says:

UK should return the favor, and put Bermudians on the same stop list regardless if the Bermudian has a British passport. Wonder how many would complain then.

      • Yeesh! says:

Absolutely the UK should if our people go over there and behave like animals BTW and she does not have the right of residency here like our people have when they get a British passport. If you cant behave go home. She has scarred someone for life wonder how she would feel if the boot was on the other foot – no class!

      • ganja mon says:

Too bad thats just the way it is and certainly what Britain deserve for wanting to at one time take over the whole world. If they want Bermuda as a OTC so we can praise the Queen then we should be able to there if we want.

        • Proud to be Bermudian says:

          I so agree!! well said..

          • Anbu says:

Lol jokers u are. Lmfao. Some people

          • Proud to be British says:

You people know nothing. Small town losers, immersed in your little island. It’s a big world out there, but why visit when you’ve got Art Mel’s and the Swizzle Inn? Pathetic.

By the way, no one in Britain cares about Bermuda as an OTC. They think Bermuda is near Barbados. Why? Because Bermuda is a speck, and it’s a wide, wide world.

            • Coffee says:

When you think about it , a rather large portion of the British population are small town losers .

            • Bermudian says:

Yes we are a small island and proud of it obviously by your comment you do care about Bermuda as an OTC. That is why you are on a Bermudian news website, The British think we are next to Barbados not because of lack of care but because of the lack of knowledge.

I know it pains you that our quality of life is a hundred times better than yours and we still have the privilege to come and live in your country. I Know WE ARE BLESSED. But don’t be mad because then the rest of the world would really see how the British act

P.S what is pathetic is that the British get mad at foreigners in their country but the queen raped several countries so a choice to come to the UK is the least she could f****** do especially because most countries pay her every year.

            • MT says:

Also “PROUD TO BE BRITISH”. for someone that complains about Bermuda, you surely know where Art Mel’s is don’t you? You must hv been up there a few times I gather, and YES……let’s not forget Swizzle……a place I bet you frequent quite often to gulp dwn your alcohol after hving a healthy big and nice fish sandwich from Art Mel’s right? Goes to show your mentality….Art Mel’s and Swizzle has nothing to do with this situation……stupid you are, stupid you’ll always be! *Stupid is forever, Ignorance can be fixed* lolololol

        • 200 years ago. Get educated retard. Younlot act like you have no criminals in your country. Yet all the carribeans we get here are all in OUR PRISONS what should we do with them then. MUPPET

  33. Angel says:

A situation like this is never acceptable but two girls where scarred here. Provocation did happen. Someone who could have testified didn’t to protect themselves. Natalie pled guilty the whole time as she was horrified that her hand threw the glass. There but for the grace of God go I or let he without sin cast the first stone both come to mind. Finding out that Natalie Simpson threw the glass was like finding out that the kindest girl in your neighborhood who is always giving and never takes time for herself threw that glass. I can’t see the higher plan maybe God needs someone of such a high light to be in the prison to raise the energy there and befriend another inmate who is also amazing and help them change their path, or maybe God is protecting her from the retaliation that can come from ignorance. Im pleased to say that the scarring on the victim has healed to just two small lines in only 5 months, Im so happy about that the doctors had said two years, my only hope is that if they look this good in 5 months in 2 years they will disappear. Natalies scars are still forming, when will she heal?

  34. MAKE MY DAY says:

Looks like she is pregnant as well or just “ovulating”!!!

  35. twe10 says:

I think you are all mad the way you are talking. None of you know this girl from adam, if she was previosuly a nasty person or a violent person that fair enough but you are quick to judge and condemn her for a mistake that was made in a drunken state..im sure you too have been in positions that could get you in alot of trouble but nothing had come from it or have been given a second chance in life, which of course none of you will appreciate as would probably take your life for granted. What happened was horrible but it wasnt a thist that gave her that scar. It was not malicious, intended or premeditated. I suggest taking a second to think about how she must feel or how you would feel if she was your daughter, sister or friend, a glass slips from her hand and now she has two years on her back in a foreign country when all she did was help your economy and pay your taxes. 2 years in prison no chance of ever getting a job or being seen as the lovely caring girl she is or having small scar on your lip. I know which id prefer! Prayers are with her.

    • Bermudian Momma says:

@twe10 – are you saying that because Ms. Simpson was drunk – she is not responsible for her actions? If the glass has slipped from her hand, I would want to know where was Ms. Simpson’s hand in relation to the victim’s face. At the end of the day, this is not about how “nasty or nice” Ms Simpson was prior to this incident. She caused someone’s face to be permanently disfigured and therefore must be held responsible for her actions. It is not about if she was our sister, daughter or friend because the same could be said from the victim’s position. If it was your sister, daughter or friend who was disfigured, would your stance be the same?
I hope and pray the victim is able to forgive Ms. Simpson.

      • MT says:

@Bermudian Momma. Thanks for that and stating the reality of the situation. Just looking at the inappropriate comments, where FOOLS (and I use the word “fools” because only a FOOL wld condone Miss Simpson’s behaviour and think it’s ok to do this to someone. Maybe the “FOOLS” are family members and friends of Miss Simpson, that go out consuming large amounts of alcohol, behave inappropriately, verbally abuse or physically abuse people, and are just a plain ‘ol menance to society. If a person cannot control themself while they’re drinking…for God’s sake, stay the hell away from alcohol. Enough Said…… *AND WHERE IS THE BOYFRIEND THROUGH ALL OF THIS, AND WHERE IS HE NOW? HE’S PROBABLY BROKE UP WITH HER SINCE SHE’S IN JAIL!!*

        • marge says:

I would worry about you having a drink.Wow theres some anger here.Friends with the victim possibly!

    • John Thorne says:

Sounds like she got what she deserved. I cannot believe you think the injured party is better off and somehow the perpetrator has been treated badly?

    • ganja mon says:

The glass slipped from her hand ? lol

Did the victim also slip over her fist as she was punching her?

    • Turn the other cheek says:

I’m with you, if this girl had no prior record then 2 years in jail is excessive. For a country with so many Christians, these comments indicate that Bermudians are vengeful and vindictive rather than humble and forgiving. I guess they never make mistakes.

      • crystal says:

2 years is not excessive because the victim has to live an entire lifetime with a scar on her face. The victim could have been blinded or her face paralyzed. I think it is fair that the perpetrator should get both the jail time and she should also forgiveness based on the fact that we all need forgiveness.

      • MT says:

Christianity and FORGIVENESS has NOTHING to do with this. The Bible states, “Thou Shalt Not Kill” (and anything pertaining to that: abuse, assault, hitting, kicking, punching etc. is in the same category)! 2 yrs is NOT excessive and no one is vengeful or vindictive. I wonder if you were in the victim’s shoes, or it happened to a family member, wld you be stating the same thing!? It’s about what’s right and what’s wrong. She, Miss SIMPSON had NO RIGHT putting her hands on the lady. What makes it worse, she knew nothing about the victim. They weren’t friends not even associates. Then Miss SIMPSON had the NERVE to board a plane and go overseas the next day!!! LIKE REALLY???? That shows she cld care less. She’s a SELFISH individual that appears to be VERY JEALOUS!! Hopefully, while she’s incarcerated they’ll send her on some “Anger Management” courses. She got what she deserved!! #Day3 of incarceration…BAM!!!!

      • marge says:

        Two years is excessive

    • Alison Johnson says:

I took a second to think how she must feel. She must have felt completely terrible as she flew to New York the next day to go on holiday! That must have been some remorse. And she is a beauty therapist. She isn’t volunteering or giving back to the community unless she is drinking to maintain Bermuda’s GDP. I’m sure she feels terrible.

    • MT says:

@twe10…….PLEASE…..PULEEZE…..P U L E E Z E…..HAVE A SEAT! SIT YOUR STUPID, MAKING NO SENSE, DUMB COMMENT A** DWN SOMEWHERE! First of all, who cares about her getting a job. She don’t live here, she’s only on work permit, and then she’ll probably be deported anyway….so her finding a job is irrelevant. What is relevant is that she not only scared the victim physically, but emotionally as well. Truthfully, I don’t think anyone cares how she feels at this point. They’re more on the side of the victim. YOU MUST BE AN EX-PAX RIGHT?? Maybe you need to go back home too if you are!!! Start packing your bags!!! BYE ..BYEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

      • marge says:

Oh dear are you from Bermuda by any chance!!!!! LOL

  36. Looking in says:

    Her lawyer sold her out!

  37. Too Bad...So Sad says:

twe10 you can’t be serious!A glass can’t slip from your hand and slice a persons face…there had to be force behind that and you don’t hold glasses at face level. Yes good people do make mistakes but they also have to be held accountable for those mistakes. Hopefully she has learned from this. Her actions cannot be justified and the punishment fits the crime.

  38. Justice is served? says:

Waste of money to have her in jail, take her to the airport with the clothes on her back and deport her to the UK with a lifetime ban, seize her material possessions here and financial funds and give them to the victim.

simple process that compensates the woman injured and does not complexly ruin the life of the accused imo. Waste of a jail space.

  39. a) not long enough
    b) don’t use the word Bermudians, remember the controversy that nationality caused some time back?

  40. Tricks are for Kids says:

Provoked or not there are better ways to deal with situations…..The only absurd thing here is how she handled herself….You slash someones face because “she” was talking to “him”….really? hope that piece of “-ick” was worth it….smh…….Glad you stopped drinking (or so you say) because you clearly can’t handle it…….I can’t see how anyone is defending her whether she is normally “good” or not…right is right and wrong is wrong….and with her being found guilty has absolutely nothing to do with Bermudians being cold hearted or vengeful…SHE is accountable for HER actions…..#angermanagement101…….#youdontOWNanybody….
    #noexcuse…….

    • MT says:

Whooooo……very well said “Tricks are for kids” *thumbs up*

  41. Grizz says:

There are seriously people on here saying the glass slipped from her hand. Basic physics…. if it fell from her hand it would have hit the floor not hit someone in the face causing permanent damage. Come on we weren’t born yesterday. Slipped from her hand..right!!

    • Or... says:

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a physicist in the house!

I wasn’t there, but hypothetically, she could have meant to throw her drink in the girl’s face, and the glass could have slipped from her hand. The upward motion of thrusting the drink would have caused the glass to hit her in the face.

      • MT says:

Her story makes no sense. She meant to throw the drink!! Ok…. so if she threw the drink, then why did she go further and use force to smash the glass in the woman’s face? I think her intentions were intentional. Her issue was not with the victim. It should have been with her boyfriend because we don’t know what “the boyfriend” said to the victim. The first thing these women want to do is go after the female. Now look where it has gotten her dumb a**! 2 yrs behind bars!!!

  42. Wow says:

Dam sum mamas do have um …u bermudians r killin me

  43. smh says:

Some of u sound so racist

    • Anbu says:

And you’re not making any sense with your typing. Learn to spell and use proper grammar, then people can make sense of your comment!!

“Bermuda is a British island, WHICH makes us all British nationals, not Bermudians. “Bermudian” is not even a nationality. Some of YOU say THINGS that make no sense. The only way YOU can BE a Bermudian is if Bermuda WERE independent. Even a Bermuda passport STATES (not “tells” because passports and paper don’t speak) THAT YOUR nationality is British. PEOPLE need to EXPAND THEIR mind and stop judging PEOPLE YOU don’t even KNOW. THERE’s only ONE judge and all of YOU THAT ARE TRYING to play judge CAN burn (which the Bible doesn’t state that because someone judges someone they’ll burn, but anyway, you’re entitled to your opinon) with the so-called murderers, rapist AND WHOMEVER else YOU judge. Judging is JUST as much of a sin (which it is not). Now is this what you were trying to state? lol
