25 Yr Old Woman Admits New Year’s Eve Assault
[Updated] A 25 year old British woman this morning [Mar 3] appeared in the Supreme Court Arraignments where she admitted causing grievous bodily harm to another woman at a New Year’s Eve event in Hamilton.
Natalie Simpson pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to another woman on 1st January 2014.
Justice Greaves agreed that she could remain free on bail but warned her that the fact that she was free on bail should not be taken as suggesting that she was not liable for a custodial sentence.
A police statement after the incident said, “Police are appealing for witnesses in the assault of a 31 year old Smiths woman, that took place at 12:30am on Wednesday Morning New Year’s Day at Pier Six.
“The victim,states that she was at Pier 6 at a New Year’s celebration when an unknown female walked up to her asking her ‘why are you talking to him’. The suspect then assaulted the Smith’s woman.
“This resulted in the victim being taken to the hospital where she required facial surgery. The suspect is described as a white female 5’8 to 5’10 feet tall, thin framed, with dark hair and a British accent.”

The victim in this case was severely injured, I know because I assisted her at the party until the ambulance arrived. Her facial injuries were horrific It is not funny hearing all of the comments above about the attacker.Please show compassion and sensitivity. She did the crime, she should expect the time… Then it will be up to our system at Immigration if she is to be deported. I am glad to see the victim is getting better but know that it carries an emotional scar that will be with her a long long time.

This woman seriously assaulted another woman and sliced her face open…from the bottom of her nose, through her lips and down her chin. It was an awful attack that was completely unprovoked. The victim did not, at the time, even know Natalie Simpson. The victim is now scarred for life!! This should not, by any means, be a ‘slap on the wrist’ sentence. This girl should go to prison and when she is finished her prison sentence, she should be deported. Bermuda does not need people like Natalie Simpson.

This was a vicious, unprovoked attack on an innocent woman who was completely unknown to the culprit. The victims injuries were very nasty, and the culprit fully deserves to be punished for this criminal attack. I gather she is not Bermudian and if that is the case she deserves to be deported after finishing her sentence. Ensd of case.
She needs to pay the victim for distress, suffering, pain and physical injury, plus all of the remedial work that has to be carried out to restore her former appearance.
What she did was horrible. I saw a picture of the victim’s face before her surgery and this was no minor offense. I hope they throw the book at her!!!

Yes, the culprit might have been heavily under the influence of drink, but if anyone did anything wrong other than her, it might be said to be her boyfriend who might have made a slight, incidental comment to the vixtim who did not know him from a hole in the wall.
And, yes, by all means have a social enquiry report before passing final judgement, but quit trying to blame a totally innocent victim, and place the blame squarely where it belongs – with a very nasty young lady who committed a sewrious criminal assault resulting in permanent injury to the victim.

I completely agree with your statement. I know Natalie personally and I can attest the fact that she is nowhere close to the monster that people are making her out to be. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t defend themselves if they were physically threatened. Natalie is not some psychotic lunatic who in a drunken rage decided to slice someone up for fun. She was provoked when the so called victim decided to throw the first blow, which led to Natalie reacting by throwing a glass back at he in retaliation,or was that also lost in translation. I do agree that it was an unfortunate accident where injuries were sustained but to say that it was unprovoked is more than an understatement, its an outright lie. I strongly urge the public not to pass judgment until you have all the facts, or better yet leave it to the courts to decide!!!!
It’s fascinating to read Proud Bermudians comments but it begs a couple of questions. Proud Bermudian, were you actually there when this attack occurred? Did you see the victim “throw the first blow”? Can you explain why Natalie’s lawyer did not appear to mention anything about Natalie having been provoked in the first place? Surely, this would have been the first line of either defence or mitigation?
Or are you taking Natalie’s word for your statement? Do you know anyone else who was at the scene who could independently corroborate your statement?
You mention not passing judgement until we have all the facts., but you fail to mention that Natalie plead guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, and the judge had all of the facts. The only thing the judge has to do is to decide on the sentence. As you rightly say, lewt the court decide on that issue because that is the only issue after her guilty plea.
Deportation papers should be in order. She needs to go. Any foreigner that disobeys the law with assault of any nature is a risk to others who try and live peacefully on this island. She needs to be deported asap. Go back where you came from because no one wants you here if your going to act the fool.

Let me get this one straight. An innocent woman is out with a couple of friends and walks up to a bar to order a drink, and she is attacked and viciously wounded for absolutely no reason. There is not a shred of evidence to say that she had even had a drink before this terrible incident, but “Truth is killin’ me” is saying that she somehow deserves to finish up on the floor with blood pouring out of her face because of the “demon alcohol”. There are some really sick coments on this post but this one sure takes the cake!
It is quite interesting that some think it was a minor cut and others are saying her face was sliced. Wouldn’t the medical records indicate how severe the injuries were?
@ Sara – Not sure who is saying that the injury sustained by the victim was a “minor cut”. In truth the culprit pleaded guilty to causing “grievous bodily harm”. If it was a minor cut she could have been charged with “assault” or “assault occasioning bodily harm”, or “wounding”. These offences gradually go up the scale, with the most serious being “grievous bodily harm”. Clearly, if the culprit was charged with the more serious offence, and she decided to plead guilty, then you can be sure that the injury was not a “minor cut”.
As for the medical records, these would have been available to the Court, and in the event of a trial they would have been provided in detail, plus the surgeon who treated her injuries would have been called as a witness. This was not necessary for the simple reason that the accused pleaded guilty which means that a fairly brief statement of evidence would have been submitted to the Court.
On the issue of whether the victim was in any way involved in any prior incident with the accused, make no mistake that her defence lawyer would have been all over it like a bad rash! There is not a single shred of evidence linking the victim to the accused prior to this dreadful incident otherwise it would have been stated in mitigation in court.
I would invite anyone making such a nefarious allegation to publicly state what evidence there is and what evidence was provided by the accused that would have given her any reason to inflict grievous bodily harm on a completely innocent victim. I wait with baited breath.

Girl your crazy you don’t know Natalie as I do she is a sweet quiet girl who has never been in an altercation in her life. This one night was probably the biggest mistake she will ever make. She has learnt from it and has shown complete remorse for her actions. She will deal with whatever happens to her when it comes but know that this is out of character for her she is a lovely girl and is sorry for her actions whilst being intoxicated on that night and for what ms Wheatley and her family have been through since that night.
