Norwegian Cruise Ship Gets ‘Stuck’ In Hudson

May 5, 2014

Norwegian Breakawayl, Dockyard Bermuda May 15 2013-18According to the NY Daily News, the Norwegian Breakwaway cruise ship was tugged to the pier after “getting stuck” in the Hudson River in New York.

The report said, “The ship, Norwegian Breakaway, lost its steering as it was headed for Pier 88 on the West Side when a side thruster malfunctioned, according to the Coast Guard.

“A spokeswoman for the cruise line blamed the ‘strong currents in the Hudson River’ for the delay, but some passengers were furious at their ‘unorganized’ exit from the ship, which leaves for another trip at 5 p.m. Sunday.”

Norwegian Cruise Line spokeswoman Anne Marie Mathews described it as a minor incident, and said it would not affect the scheduled cruise to Bermuda.

The Norwegian Breakaway — the largest cruise ship to ever visit Bermuda — is due to make her first visit to the island this coming Wednesday [May 7]. She will make 22 calls to Bermuda this year, with the 1063ft long ship carrying around 4000 passengers and 1500 crew.
