Prisoner Sentenced To 3 Months For Cannabis

May 24, 2014

Appearing in Magistrates Court earlier this week, a 26 year old Westgate prisoner was sentenced to an additional three months in prison after being convicted of possessing cannabis inside the prison.

Anthony Swan — currently serving a twelve year sentence for a gun crime —  was sentenced to serve an additional three months after he pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis, inside Westgate Correctional Facility [an Increased Penalty Zone]  in December 2013.

The Prosecutor told the Senior Magistrate that Corrections Officers had spotted a piece of string that was being used to drag a small packet from one cell to another. They traced the packet back to Mr. Swan. Inside the packet, Corrections Officers found the cannabis inside the fingertip portions of cut-off latex gloves.

  1. Preposterous…..absolute bollocks….once you are in custody your rights are removed from you…completely….your charge and responsabilities are no longer yours. The charge should be directed at HM prisons…..sorry but all goings on are their purvue.

  2. Precident has been set long ago ,I am sure there has been some aductment that applies directly…

Firstly, Barnacle what to heck are you taking about. Secondly, just double his sentence and let him serve 24 years… simple! Not for the weed but for being stupid enough to break another law.

This is such a waste of time and money SMDH

I know many people here will assume that a prison officer is involved any they might be right.

However, I have looked Westgate from a security standpoint and with very little effort someone could with a $25, 3 person slingshot made for slinging water balloons or a simple homemade spud gun, anyone could shoot drugs, phones or weapons into that prison yard from far away with relative accuracy, a little planning and with zero risk.

That problem needs to me addressed

So guys can wander around picking up packages in prison? What a joke, a society who can’t prevent substances from entering a maximum security prison facility, can’t expect to keep it out of the country.

  6. Danielle says:

FYI this guy has a job OUTSIDE of the prison. It would be so easy for him to get his hands on it and smuggle it back in. How dumb, he was given a chance to redeem himself and now look. Guys are crying nobody gives them a chance, but when you do they screw up. Do your time, do your little work release hustle and keep your nose clean. What’s so difficult about that?

    • sage says:

You sound like some self righteous alcoholic.

      • Danielle says:

What’s self righteous about my comment? I’ve never shot at anybody. If I HAD, and was given an outside job a year or two into my sentence I would thank my lucky stars instead of screwimg up. And I guess I’m am alcoholic since I’m not am obvious pothead like you!

  7. Suck Rock says:

double the sentence, NO chance for parole, dumb a**, what is 3 months to it?>

    • sage says:

You’re name says it all, you gonna pink up the $80,000+ a year to do so? Shut up fool.

      • Suck Rock says:

bioya sage. he or it should be doing hard labour but this rock is o full of self righteous pansies that say you can’t do that it’s inhuman

  8. Sara says:

If Bermuda can not keep drugs out of a tiny prison, how can we logically support the war on drugs? The current model isn’t working. Why is any suggested change to this model met with such great defence as if to imply the current system is working? Eventually, when the older generation part this earth, you will see there is nobody left to defend marijuana prohibition and it will become a substance regulated mainstream like alcohol and tobacco. It’s as simple as that.
