AXIS Capital Sponsors TV’s Sesame Street
AXIS Capital Holdings Limited, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Economic Development, will be sponsoring the award-winning educational programming series Sesame Street, allowing it to continue to air on Bermuda Broadcasting channels ZBM TV 9 and ZFB TV 7.
AXIS Capital has assumed primary sponsorship from the Ministry of Education and Economic Development for the 2014/15 fiscal year ending on March 31, 2015.
“Sesame Street has enhanced the early childhood development of children worldwide for decades through its innovative and creative programming,” said AXIS CEO Albert Benchimol. “AXIS is honoured to support Bermuda’s youth and education as a primary sponsor for the continued broadcast of this iconic program,” he added.
Minister of Education and Economic Development Dr. Grant Gibbons said, “Sesame Street is internationally recognized as one of the world’s most highly regarded educational television series for young children.
“The benefits of Sesame Street transcend generations, as parents and grandparents who grew up watching can now share the Sesame Street experience with their children and grandchildren.
“On behalf of parents and the Ministry of Education and Economic Development, I am extremely grateful to our community partner, Axis Capital, for generously offering to provide funding to keep this invaluable educational resource on air for our pre-schoolers and young children.”
Sesame Street is produced by the Sesame Workshop, a non-profit which is overseen by Bermudian CEO H. Melvin Ming, with an eye towards helping young children to prepare for the transition from home to school.
“We try to see our work as meeting the needs of children and looking at the world through their eyes,” Mr. Ming said in 2011. “The workshop is a place where people come to work, but they really come to live — it’s an extension of their lives. And my rule is that if it’s good enough for my grandchildren, it’s good enough for any child on the planet.
