Live Blog: PLP March On Government House

July 15, 2014

[Updated] People are presently gathering at Government House as they prepare to take part in the Progressive Labour Party’s march to protest the Governor’s decision over the Commission of Inquiry.

Background

On July 4th the House of Assembly passed a Motion which proposed the Governor appoint a Commission of Inquiry into certain historic land transactions

Opposition MP Walton Brown brought the Motion which read, “That this Honourable House take note of the historic losses in Bermuda of citizens’ property through theft of property, dis-possession of property and adverse possession claims; and be it resolved that this Honourable House calls on His Excellency the Governor to establish a Commission of Inquiry into all such known claims and to determine, where possible, the viability of any such claims and make recommendations for any victims of wrongful action to receive compensation and justice.”

However, Governor George Fergusson issued a statement saying the debate “raised serious concerns” but “they are not clear enough or urgent enough to justify a Commission of the type proposed.”

Following that, the PLP said the Governor “made a mockery of Parliament and disrespected the Bermudian people” and said they will march on Government House and call for the “immediate recall of the Governor.”

Live updates have ended, they are below starting from the beginning:

    I need a rum.

    • Put pupils first says:

The sarcastic comments on here directed at the marchers do no good whatsoever.

If you do not support their cause, a thread with minimal comments is the best response.

I do not agree with the PLP boycott of the House nor do I think their is sufficient cause to recall the Governor.

I do hope the rain stays away and that people refrain from malicious comments (on both sides).

      • Put pupils first says:

        *there*

        • .am says:

At least give them props for getting the first one right.

          • Baltic Fury says:

            Marc Bean, congratulations.

You have assembled a ragged band of PLP cronies who have difficulty spelling.

That’s all tonight has told us.

The people have not spoken, which is a good job because this lot probably couldn’t spell it.

            • Seer says:

Yeah, because many of them were denied a decent education by the powers-that-be of the past…ever think of THAT?

There is some serious dirt in this country and we keep covering it up. It’s like if you were sweeping your living room and just swept all the dirt under a big area rug in the middle of the room while the rest of the room was kept clean. You’d invite guests to your house and say “Look at our beautiful home” and pray they didn’t see the massive mound of dirt accumulated under the rug…but guess what? They may not notice at first but eventually they will and start to say to themselves what a messy housekeeper you truly are.

THAT is Bermuda…we try and portray ourselves as this beautiful, perfect country while a big pile of dirt is there nicely hidden up. Like one’s home, the day’s going to come when someone yanks away that rug for all to see the dirt you’ve been hiding…that is what’s going to happen in this country-it will eventually be exposed for ALL to see!!!

              • Baltic Fury says:

And nothing I saw in a decade and a half of PLP “Government” told me that anything changed. In fact it got worse, not just in education, but Bermuda got worse, much worse.

And all I saw today was Marc Bean pulling a load of puppets for the purposes of the PLP, not democracy, and that stinks.

So pull the rug away tonight Seer and what you got? It isn’t for the better, and it sure as hell has nothing to do with land grab.

It’s vote grab, vote bullying, which is all Marc Bean is.

And no one likes a bully.

                • Hmmm says:

So the PLP messed up a motion, not getting terms of a commission correct. They then move the goalposts and cry be the masters of our own domain.

Do you want a commission, because it sounds like you forgot about it.

PLP if you want to be the masters of your own domain, then nothing is stopping you from financing a commission. All those people coulld put some cash in and you can refine the terms and have a commission.

This whole march was PLP base trying to power grab.

Why are they so desperate, what are they trying to hide?

Why was the march for democracy turned into a dictatorship rally?

              • .am says:

Now, if they’d used a Dyson..

            • We the People (1st!!) says:

              @Blastic

Your comment is an insult and a direct slap in the face to people exercising their democratic rights. Whether you agree with them or not, your comments are uncalled for and also can be interrupted as being racist.

              • Jim Jones says:

I’m struggling here. I don’t disagree that there are racist undertones in the post you are replying to but I really wish you would have proof read your response.

                • Kunta says:

@ We the People (1st)be expected to hear these types of remarks, what’s ironic is you don’t hear de O.B.A./ubpers critiquing their F@#%# ups since day one and we all agree P.L.P made some F@#%# ups but to just highlight de P.L.P after 18 months of embarrassment, promising to suspend Term Limits, alleged bribery, secret tapings, JET GATE, resignation of a Premier for alleged corruption (first time in Bermuda’s History), $300,000 of Campaign Funds mysteriously unaccounted for, legislating an act that suspended ALL contracts (Harbor Front Gate) to favor FRIENDS and Family just to name a few and this is just in 18 months is an EMBARRASSMENT and PATHETIC, and they wouldn’t even say a peep !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
                  LMFAO

                  • Hmmm says:

The harbourfront hasn’t gone to anyone !!!!

                    Your making things up AGAIN.

The 300 in donations made before the 2012 election, we all want to know about, it wasn’t the public purse.

Term limits had a negative affect on our economy, so was good to remove them.

If people were not paid a fair price (black and white) for their land for the base and Mid Ocean, then show me evidence. We have been offered none. If it can be proven, then there can be grounds for making up the difference to fair value and adjusting it for inflation. To todays $value.

The march was nonsens. There were people there for so many different reasons protesting, when it was suppossed to be a march for democracy regarding the commission.

The PLP is so fragmented, they don’t know what they are marching for.

Now its to be masters of our own domain with promises and promises again. You have to be an idiot to buy into that side show following the PLPs record in that capacity over the last 14 years. Just because you say it loud and passionately doesn’tt make it true.

                    • Kunta says:

Naaahhh IDIOT, the commission was de straw that broke de camels back, de march was for all de other foolishness they’ve done and about to do!!!!!!!!
                      PEOPLE POWER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                  • GOD1ST says:

I think you are right.I don’t see the OBA/UBP Lasting their entire first term.

                • We the People (1st!!) says:

Well done Jim Jones, you get a point – interpreted not interrupted. I guess this overlook on my end takes away from my comment. Not!

              • LOL (Original TM*) says:

We guess it like the people that marched on Dr. Brown. They were called all sorts of things from lynch mob to the kkk, which was printed in the media and you think so comments on this thread are a slap in the face. Guess only one part of this island thinks they have the right around here.
                LOL

            • JustAskin2 says:

And this is the OBA that we’re supposed to align with, a bunch of racists IMO?

      • Stevie G says:

        I hope they get soaked.

        • Hmmm says:

How many are there 20,000…10,0000…. 1,000 or as Chris famous likes to put it 300 ?

          • Hmmm says:

Credit where credit due, looks about 600

            • Fallowfield says:

So 1% are unhappy. That’s 99 out of 100 stayed at home. I’d say you are doing just fine OBA.

            • Creamy says:

If the pictures are anything to go by it’s about 50 people. Who seem to be blaming PRC’s for their gripe about Tucker’s Town.

              • mixitip says:

lol 50? Well you must have seen a different crowd than I did, I say upward of 2000.

                • James says:

No way 2000. Just did a cursory count given the pictures. Being very generous (that is, including PLP Ministers and organizers, etc.), it looks about 500 or so.

You need to look up what a 2000-person crowd looks like.

                  • GOD1ST says:

Sounds like someone is insecure.Take a breather it isn’t election time.I see that we have headcount going on.

                  • Seer says:

The news has reported that there was a crowd of about 2,000 people so maybe YOU are the one who needs to look it up.

                    • Come Correct says:

To be honest I don’t think the pictures are a fair representation of the true numbers. Especially since you can see people still coming around the corner. The thing is if you have 2000 people, that’s still less than 5% of the population. It is never a bad thing to see people standing up for what they believe, but how many actually believe this is the most pressing issue of the day (considering 14 years, financial state, TP SDO and the PLP stance), how many believe this is the right way to do this? Although I believe this should be thoroughly looked into, I think stabalizing our economy so that those of us living now can have a better life and provide better for the future generations, I think that repairing our relation with tourism and IB is more important at the moment. I truly believe this just hasn’t been done the right way. Using your head will always prevail against force and ignorance.

                  • Robert says:

Looks a lot like the 2000 jobs promised by oba.

          • Debbie McPhatter says:

I don’t really think it matters how many people are there as long as someone is standing up for what they believe. I am very proud of every single person that was out there today and I do hope they will continue to march until they get some truth to the land problem in Bermuda.
For those people who do not see the problem at hand…well I simply say “ZIP IT”

            • jt says:

So zip it if you disagree. ..I see.

            • Build a Better Bermuda says:

So you only believe in the the right to free speech, so long as they say the same thing as you?

        • islandgal says:

Stevie G, haha, even if it did rain. To us it would have been like water falling off a ducks back.

          “Ain’t no stppin’ us now.”

        • Kunta says:

@ Stevie G RAIN ,RAIN GO AWAY ITS DE END FOR O.B.A.
          LMFAO

      • Raymond Ray says:

Yeah, let them get their rocks off…then what?

        • Raymond Ray says:

No-one should be surprised by the amount of people that showed up; remember the P.L.P. loss the election by a few votes…So personally, I’m not a bit shocked seeing so many show up to protest a cause that they will nor can win…

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

I agree, there is a genuine issue here that at some point will need a thorough look at. However, I do not recognize now as being the time, and I believe that the PLP’s methods and motives for pushing this issue out are entirely disingenuous. They are play politricks with a very sensitive subject to which there will ultimately be no winners. We have far too many and much more serious issues that needs to be addressed right now, and it is slap in the face to our children and to the victims of these past crimes, that PLP would us this to distract from these issues. The 2 main reasons for this distraction is that it was many of their short sighted policies and poorly comprised legislations that have contributed to these issues, and secondly, should the OBA succeed in making progress to addressing and fixing these issues before the next election, it will be harder for the PLP to get themselves back to the power they crave. If they were truly genuine about their stance, they would have tackled it when they were in power, particularly when the economy could have enabled it. Instead on multiple occasions they dismissed it.
The governor was completely correct in how he handled the motion, as he is unable to act on it at this time due in particular as to how this commission is to be funded. It is not within his power to do that, but solely within our legislature’s. Now it back on the PLP’s head to to provide the proper requirements for the motion, and it would be the responsible thing of the PLP to wait until the more immediate concerns to our society can be resolved.

        • Raymond Ray says:

          @ Building a Better Bermuda: I totally agree…this isn’t the correct time :-(

        • WTF says:

Thank you for a reasoned, intelligent view of the land acquisitions issue. Unfortunately, there will no doubt be droves of people who will not read it through and, if they do, most won’t understand it. The land issues, of which Tuckers Town is one, are very complex and the documentation of how lands were acquired were often spotty if not missing altogether. It is unfortunate that the PLP is so focused on stirring up trouble in a bid to regain power, that their efforts will do little more than bring more hardship to the Island and its people. They are playing a very dangerous game!!

      • Huh says:

I feel very sorry for these Bermudians who have no idea how they are being used and manipulated by the PLP MPs. If PLP really cared they would have dealt with all these land issues during their 14 years in charge. Instead all PLP did was oversee Bermuda’s largest economic decline in a hundred years. This inquiry looks like a great job for the former Ombudsman and the first thing to look into is the PLP’s Tuckers Point SDO and work backwards from there…

    • Cleancut says:

Marc Bean addressed the crowd saying:

“Let it never be questioned that the PLP is here to serve the greater interest and greater good of this country, but rest assured that you will always be put first from this day going forward. WE PROMISE! WE PROMISE!

Well there you have it….. WE PROMISE…. WE PROMISE.

Political deception, its not for the cause, ITS A PLP CAMPAIGN STRATEGY!!!

      • Runner says:

So the PLP did not put the people first for the 14 years they were in power???? That’what many thought but it has now been confirmed!!!

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Despite him advertising this march as a march for all Bermudians, he certainly wasted no time hyping it into a PLP rally call. Irony, is that they are calling on the Governor to be recalled for doing his job thoroughly and correctly, when it was Mr. W Brown who didn’t do his correctly and drafted an insufficient motion for the issue. Perhaps if he had drafted the motion correctly they would have gotten the results they wanted… or perhaps they did get the results they wanted, after all, they thwarted this justice multiple times during their governing.

        • Sandgrownan says:

They knew this was going to happen. It was a setup..you think that many PLP supporters can get organised by themselves without direction from Alaska Hall?

    • Kunta says:

SHUT DE WHOLE ISLAND DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Vhovho says:

and then what… Bermuda will be worse than Haiti.

        • Kunta says:

For your information @$$hole Haiti is in that state because there was an embargo against de Island and France got 90 million francs in 1838 because they lost control of de Island through Slave Revolts and Haiti has been paying out of its @$$ ever since !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
          FOOL

          • Redman says:

Yes Haiti is in a terrible state mostly due to what you say however corruption has played it’s part as well.

Clearly what Vhovho said is that we would be in a worse state than Haiti.

There’s no mention by Vho.. incorrectly stating that the mess Haiti is in is due to marches/Govt etc… so your rant is as usual OTT and makes you look silly and incapable of dialogue.

            • Kunta says:

You mean corruption like JET GATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LMAO

              • Redman says:

yep in your mind Bermuda is in massive debt and thousands unemployed because someone who shouldn’t have gone on a plane did.

Of course the 14 years of plp mismanagement had nothing to do with it… nice. lolololol

      • Soooooo says:

        Fire the lot of um…..

      • campervan says:

^^^^^ one “a” to many in the name and “silly” is missing at the front.

    • Truth is killin' me... says:

      2,000 out of 60,000…clearly a majority…NOT!!!

      • Redman says:

        @ Truth is …

Exactly! 4,000 plus demonstrated at the H of A during Dr. Brown’s Uighur fiasco only to be told that it wasn’t a significant amount of people (voters) etc… however 1,500 to 2,000 today is a statement!! LOL

    • Kunta says:

WOOOOOWWWWW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was AWSOME and it’s not over its just beginning !!!!!!!!!!!
      PEOPLE POWER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Kunta says:

WOOOOWWWWW !!!!!!!!!!!You had to be there to experience the WOOOOWWWWW Factor.
      Just AWSOME.
Cant wait for the next one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Kunta says:

I guess Mark Bean has a LIL PULL after all, I know de skeptics were hoping for a sparse crowd but you’ll get over it, and there will be more when the rest see de light !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Bermuda Boy says:

    PLP / BIU zombies!!!!!

  3. Luis Suarez says:

It’s hardly the country revolting. I’ve seen bigger crowds at a hot dog stall.

    • Hmmm says:

why is someone holding up a PRC topic banner.

they are at the wrong March !!!!!!

  4. A Dingo says:

I won’t be so crass as to comment on the sign…………

    • campervan says:

why not you are quite “entitle” to comment on it, we still live in a free country (for now)

  5. Bermy Boy says:

Oh boy – if only they could spell properly – photo 1

    • HUH! says:

Think this one has “Private” school education …. Oh no!!!

      • Infidelguy says:

Here we go with the typical elitist comments as per usual. I guess your kind has never made a spelling error.

It must be lonely sitting at the top of the world all by yourselves. You poor tormented bastards!

        SMH.

        • filobedo21 says:

Well take the time to use spell check! If you don’t know how to use it, ask someone to show you.

        • Redman says:

          @ Infidelguy,

I have to agree with you RE the spelling. So some of the people can’t spell who gives a Fig, that’s hardly the issue.

        • Wow says:

Honestly she took the time to change the color… its a little ridiculous that she would miss two spelling mistakes and grammar error.

I have to be honest and say I don’t remember the last time I made a mistake like that and anyone actually took what I said seriously.

It’s not about being at the “top of the world”, its about being politically correct. Isn’t that the whole point of the argument in the first place?

        • chessums says:

Your kind? NICE. And surely public school education is (was) capable of handling basic English. Or is it really that bad?

          As you said, SMH.

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Or it could be the Bermuda public school system before the PLP got their hands on it.

    • Evie says:

Such childish comments some people like my grandparents left school at 12 to work in order to feed their families they had little or no education you do know then you would be lynched if found reading a book is it their fault or Racist Bermuda you people are funny as hell shame on this racist place SMDH

      • Truth Hurts says:

“Lynched”! That’s terrible where did they live?

      • Jahkai says:

Evie, had you stayed at school to 12, your sentences might make a little more sense.

        • Evie says:

It makes sense you are incapable of seeing or hearing when it’s not what you believe and that’s okay who feels it knows it I will not insult you or try and belittle you it solves nothing The struggle continues SMDH

          • Jahkai says:

Woooah. Slow down. Take a deep breath, add some punctuation, and maybe I’ll understand something you say. Or avoid forums where English is the chosen language.

      • Seer says:

These people don’t understand that and never will. We are talking about the mentality of people who have historically invaded other countries and taken what they’ve wanted while enslaving people. They never see their wrong and never will.

        • Build a Better Bermuda says:

You realize you’ve just described every nation, culture, tribe, in every corner of the world (with maybe the exception of Tibet) through out human history. Most of it usually instigated by leader who give inciting speeches, much like the one Mr. Bean gave. Speeches that leave reason outside the door, as they only desire to target emotion rather than logic and intelligence. The PLP has mislead the people on this issue solely for the PLP interests, and not the Bermuda interest. Nor our children’s, as they will be the ones to suffer from this legacy.
I for one, what business brought back to this island so that it can once again create jobs and opportunities, that is my will. These past injustices are not going anywhere, so this issue can wait until we are back on our feet and direct a thought out and properly written motion/legislation to address it with the attention it commands. Just a word of warning though, there will be no winners to this matter, especially if we continue to let the like of Mr. Brown and Mr. Bean to try to flog us emotional along

      • rtb hey says:

Racist in what sense? Because I see more black against white hate…

Especially as a white kid on the bus in my primary days. I recall two older black women talking openly about me a few feet away saying, “why his on de bus? Ain’t his momma supposed to pick him up?”

Gotta love wearing a private school uniform and being a white kid on public trans..

On another occasion I remember being told to sit at he front of the bus because I was white.

Goes both ways hunny. Thank the lord I turned 16 and never had to endure traveling on a bus being white ever again. And years later, thank god I don’t live here year round.

        • Kunta says:

Well now you now how black people felt for 400 years!!!!!!!!!
          Karma is a B1tch

          • LOL (Original TM*) says:

            LOL

          • Sandgrownan says:

So, this is about race. Ok, good.

            • Kunta says:

And it will always be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

              • chessums says:

Are you honestly O.K with posting your comments? So it will always be about race then. GOOD plan, way to move forward. Lets line ourselves up for another 400 shall we? What a great world our future generations have to look forward to!! :) :) Kunta you absolute CHAMPION you!

            • Kunta says:

              YUP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

            • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Only to those who lack the strength to move on and evolve with the rest of society, so long as they can make it about race, they will be able to justify their weakness, for it is always easier to hate. If they evolved with the rest of society, they would have to look at themselves and realize that it is themselves and the hate they carry that is to blame for their lot in life, so in the end it is just easier to point the finger and blame others.

          • watcher55 says:

@Evie what era are you speaking about, yes slaves were prevented from learning to read, AND slavery was abolished in 1834…180 years ago…. at least six generations have passed… Stop embellishing the truth… SMH

          dear sir/madam
you are in desperate need of a history lesson

      • Redman says:

        @ Evie,

Yes many of our parents and Grands never got an adequate education what with families needing the older children to be earning for the house hold. My father was one of 11 (6th) and he was pulled from school to help the family as did many other children of that era, especially the boys.

Having said that your comment about Lynching is reaching and diminishes your argument.

  6. Bermuda man says:

I bet that is one of the Betty trumps holding that sign with the bob Marley quote!

  7. Numpty says:

I love the spelling mistakes on the signs….. Perhaps a decent education system is a more pressing issue???

    • Student says:

Frigg of maybe you should become an educator and do better #duh

    • Next says:

Maybe you should get off your high horse and offer to tutor those less fortunate or those who suffer from learning disabilities. What do you say? Perhaps you should also stop abusing the use of ellipses while you’re at it.

  8. jt says:

Wrong march for those ladies….wasn’t the prc one last week? Or is it next week?

  9. Davie Kerr says:

Funny, I don’t recall any such marches under the previous Government. Why did they not sort it out while they were in office, instead of persuading the public to bitch about it now?

    • .am says:

Because it didn’t matter to the PLP then, it doesn’t matter to them now, and it won’t matter to them if they get back in.

    • Sooooo says:

Because they would have been complaining about them selves (the Government). and you know the PLP can never be wrong!!!

  10. MJ says:

And these ladies wonder why they’re unemployed?! Learning to spell would help. They are, after all, “entitle” to an education.

    • Chaos Theory says:

More spelling problems on the latest sign !!

      • Danielle says:

Yeah, that’s how our people were robbed of their land in the first place.
Didn’t have the means for a decent education, but trusted the wrong people and here we are….

        • Raw Onion says:

I agree that our people were robbed of the land due to a poor education. And many weren’t with their poor education. But when it comes to the trust factor, that can also apply to our previous govt.

        • Redman says:

          @ Danielle

There’s the rub, no doubt that some people where robbed/swindled out of their land but not just by the Govt of the day. I’m told the Banks and some Lawyers did that as well; and yes even Black Lawyers.

  11. Ms. Poli Tician says:

After reading that poorly written sign/poster about Bob Stuart, our school teachers are probably weeping. So sad.

    • Toodle-oo says:

Plus they didn’t even get his name right .

  12. Ryan reape says:

Um um i entitle to get more education, well done PLP

    • Danielle says:

Oh shut up. How stupid can you be?
If you look at the age of the marchers, they were educated under the UBP dummy!!!

      • Raw Onion says:

I was educated under the UBP also. I’m black, male and have a college degree. In this day and age, why are we now having uneducated people coming about out of the PLP reign of terror? Oh, my bad, you’ll blame it on the middle school system that the UBP introduced to the island (that the PLP supported).

        • Danielle says:

Mr. Smarty Pants, College Degree black male, my point was that it would seem that most of these people are older adults. If this was twenty something year old people holding the signs, I could blame the PLP.
However, how can these bloggers blame spelling/grammar/lack of education on the PLP when these people are clearly UBP educated?
Clearly, a college degree is no substitute for common sense.

          • Annie says:

Danielle, you are perfectly correct! These people were educated under the UBP-a government proven to have intentionally held black people back.

There are some here who will never understand the bitterness that some of us feel because they have never experienced it. Their reality is totally different. They have never been held back or abused-everything has always gone their way. For many of us, that wasn’t our reality and the mentality is still there-that we should suck it up, shut up and just take it without complaining. Only when it affects ‘them’ do they even care.

Instead of being a bunch of sarcastic smartasses, why don’t some of you say “help us to understand’. You won’t because the truth is you don’t care to understand-you don’t care at all.

            • Sandgrownan says:

Too late for that. You had 14 years..but you drove us further apart.

  13. Yahoo says:

Another sign carrier that can’t spell. This is pure comedy!

We need to investgate our education system!

  14. Steve Davis says:

Some of the photo’s crack me up, everyone sitting off on the wall! Might be a familiar vocation for some of those involved!

People cannot write or spell and we wonder why they believe everything the PLP/BIU tell them?

Guess what! De rain is coming, let’s see how long it takes for the die hard freedom fighters to run home when it does!

    • ….Surely you jest. says:

And your incorrect use of an apostrophe either means you’re equally as unworthy of being heard and taken seriously or should I look beyond your mistake and embrace the principle of your argument? Idiot.

      • micro says:

A misplaced apostrophe is an excusable typo, spelling a word incorrect completely is another story.

        • Sick n Tired says:

That’s not a misplaced apostrophe, it’s a lack of knowing proper grammar rules and usage. Hence, there is no difference from them and the person that misspelled a word!!!!!

      • Infidelguy says:

        I agree.

And shouldn’t “Guess what!” be “Guess What?”?. I guess he doesn’t know the difference between an interrogative and exclamatory sentence.

He needs to go back to elementary school. What a Dumb A**!

        LOL :)

      • islandgal says:

You can’t fool me. Can’t confuse me.

    • Danielle says:

There is no need to the apostrophe in the word photo. It is PHOTOS (plural) not PHOTO’S.
Get your own act together before you go making fun of other people moron!!!

      • Danielle says:

        *Need for the apostrophe

        • enough says:

Correcting your own correction of a second person’s correction of a third person’s error. Nice.
By the way, you missed some punctuation after the word “people” and before the word “moron” in your original post and in order to reword the original text, there was no need to capitalise the word “need”.

I hope I got that right but if I didn’t, I’ll correct my correction of your correction of your correction of someone’s error.

          • Danielle says:

            You are such a bore.
Try typing a message on a teeny, weeny phone on the run. I make mistakes, just like you make mistakes. Sometimes I hit submit and spot a mistake too late. So what!!
I’ll bet you re-read your post numerous times just to make sure you didn’t make any mistakes, which would take away from your point. However, you still screwed up.
Your last sentence should have read, “I hope I got that right, but…” You should have put a comma after the word right and before the word but. Big deal!!! You just proved my point.
This isn’t a spelling bee or an essay contest. Not everybody is fortunate enough to know how to spell properly. Why make fun of that?
            That was my point.

            • enough says:

I got your point, you didn’t get my sarcasm. It’s cool, I’ll move along because Facebook isn’t going to surf itself.

    • Sick n Tired says:

Are you really criticising someone’s spelling area, when clearly you don’t know the difference between a plural noun and a possessive noun . . .hmmmm . . well, if that isn’t the teapot calling the kettle black.

      • Danielle says:

        Yeah, whatever.
He used it incorrectly and you know it.
The point is, don’t poke fun at other people’s mistakes when you are making your own.
Their lack of spelling skills and/or grammar doesn’t make them worthy of poking fun at.
Don’t you elitist a$$holes get tired of using the same old boring tactics?

        • Sick n Tired says:

@ Danielle . . .that was exactly my point!!!

    • Next says:

Your white privilege is showing. What’s funny is your comment was filled with errors itself.

    • Kunta says:

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY ITS DE END FOR O.B.A !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      LMFAO

  15. Andrew Little says:

I cant go near Gummint House. My doctor said to stay away!

I’m allergic. My body breaks out with C.O.G.

    Colonial Oligarcy Gyrations!!

  16. Seriously says:

Seriously people want PLP in when obviously they couldn’t deal with the bad education when they were in. Sort it out

    • Danielle says:

I would venture that these people were all educated under the UBP (OBA).
      Next!

  17. Ryan Reape says:

Do we have another march on for investgate i am confused

  18. Hmmm says:

I thought they were supposed to wear red?

    • Alicia says:

No, that’s Friday. But wear blue on Friday to support prc’s

  19. Huh says:

This is not a Tea Party, this is clearly National Socialism in full bloom.
PRCs & their families, Status Bermudians, Work Permit Holders and their families, non-Bermudian spouses of Bermudians, prepared to be tatooed, booed and belittled by real bermudians

  20. Chaos Theory says:

Bernews – by your estimate, how many people do you think have shown up (exluding PLP MP’s Press and Police)

    • Fallowfield says:

Just the ladies with the spelling mistakes.

  21. campervan says:

“We had a bit of a false start” “the march isn’t quite underway yet”

    yep its Bermuda alright.

    You’re fired.

  22. I'm Amazed says:

The matters of spelling correctly or incorrectly and proper grammar or incorrect grammar are not the issues. They have a cause that they believe in, and are standing for it. As ‘Put pupils first’ says, the sarcasm is not necessary, and is in poor taste. This march appears to be peaceful, and standing for what you believe in while knowing you will be subject to ridicule is to be admired. There are probably many more who wish they had the courage to stand as these folks are doing.

    • Comfortably numb says:

I don’t think Bob Stuart (sic) is the issue either. However, if you can’t spell the name of the man you’re denigrating ( Bob Stewart) and your grammar would embarrass a P3 student how on earth can you demand a job?

      • Yahoo says:

        They “entitle”.

      • Voter (original) says:

Not all jobs require you to be a spelling bee winner. People with dyslexia are notoriously bad spellers but very intelligent. Should people with dyslexia not be able to get a job?

  23. Chaos Theory says:

20 minutes late starting. Piss ups and breweries come to mind.

  24. Seabee says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but before you make a picket sign shouldn’t you consult with a dictionary before leaving your house? It’s investigate not investgate. Well that’s the PLP for you.

    • Terry says:

      Probably thinking ‘Westgate”,.
      Irony.

    • Danielle says:

So what? Even people with the best education make mistakes. What does a spelling mistake have to do with the PLP? I have seen plenty of spelling mistakes from OBA supporters. Are you saying that only PLP supporters cannot spell?
It is because of elitist a$$holes like you that such action has to be taken in the first place. Many of our ancestors were taken advantage of because of their lack of education.
      Go jump off a cliff.

      • Runner says:

Why only now an issue of national and historical importance for the PLP? If this is such a matter requiring a commission of inquiry, why didn’t the PLP deal with this whilst in power? Perhaps that would have gone against their approval of the SDO for the Tucker’s Point property that was critical at that the time?? Go back and read the comments of that time from David Burt and Laverne Furbert and then perhaps you might understand and appreciate some of the backlash today. Talk about speaking out of both sides of one’s mouth.

  25. James says:

The grammar and spelling is appalling on those signs!

    • Voter (original) says:

Not all jobs require you to be a spelling bee winner. People with dyslexia are notoriously bad spellers but very intelligent. Should people with dyslexia not be able to get a job?

  26. Barracuda says:

    We must inwestgate

  27. James says:

Maybe there has been a financial scam and that may be what ‘Investgate’ is?

  28. Alicia says:

I would love to know the turnout for this, as from what I can gather in the photos I estimate about 100 people. Perhaps the Plp need to rethink their actions considering the low turnout for their march/demonstration.

  29. James says:

Walton. Brown just said on the radio, “This is not a PLP thing” so why the PLP banners and shirts?

    • Creamy says:

Now he’s disavowing it because it’s an embarrassing shambles.

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Then why did Bean initiate a PLP rally cry, they are hypocrites, there own actions before speak to just how important the issue actually is for them, they are using as nothing more than a political football, disgrace to democracy

  30. warlord says:

we are entitle to investgate the sharpe sham of badness in this country

  31. #bermylivin says:

Please hand in your British passports at the gate upon leaving.

“Where ignorance is our master, there is no possibility of real peace” – Dalai Lama

  32. Seriously says:

I’m interested in knowing who is looking after families, shops and other establishments in Bermuda? Technically it’s trespassing as the sign states so according to the law all should be arrested.

    • Danielle says:

      Yeah, right.
Which army is gonna do that?

      • LOL (Origina lTM*) says:

Well the last time it was the british army……………………………………

        LOL

        • Redman says:

Yep when the Red Beret’s came over all the nonsense stopped, go figure. lol

  33. swordfish says:

this is just a PLP political rally what a farse and a sham

  34. Malachi says:

Does one get paid to participate in these anti-government rallies?

    ……just curious!

  35. Conservative says:

where is Premier Cox ? She was on Magic radio tok show yesterday claiming that she was back in the race like Dunkley did to regain his seat………WHERE IS SHE IN THE CROWD?, or does she not want to ruin the chances of getting a Dame or OBE beside her name by marching?

  36. SMH says:

I was hoping there was not that much stupid people on this island.

  37. Teed Off says:

Much of the comments are not directed at the issue hence I wonder if the deflections are a decoy like running from the truth but I I have noticed this a lot on some sites

    • .am says:

The issue is that there’s such blind support from people with -evidently – questionable intelligence.

  38. Seabee says:

Did anyone tell the protesters that the governors off the island?

  39. Unbelievable says:

I support the motion to investigate whatever the PLP want investigated. But if the PLP didn’t hate the OBA so much and believe they are the only ones to run this country, I would also be at that march.

  40. ABC says:

    not bad spellin
    JuSt diFFerenT Fonts fruitloops

half u nerds cant even change a light bulb got de nerve 2 belittle bad grammar lmao

`√☻←♣+♦ there u go fruit loops fingure dat out

    dont judge noon1

and yes u all r sittin behind a keyboard actin tough

  41. Educator says:

Am I the only person that noticed the incorrect spelling and grammar usage on the signs?

  42. ABC says:

all i say is dont get mad russian mad pls dont

  43. swordfish says:

hey ABC how many PLP supporters does it take to change a lightbulb

  44. Sooooo says:

    “They are stealing our land”???

    “Mr PRC Bob Stuart”?

Did anyone read these signs? I though this was all about 100 year old land deals (which it is) so why the present tense and who is Mr. Stuart (and) why isn’t the lady in the Digicel shirt complaining about Mr. Beak.

I really hate to tell these two, but without PRC’s this country would have gone to hell. Many deserve Bermuda status more than most Bermudian’s do they defiantly do more for the country. Bermudian’s need to learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them, they are a but a speck of sand in the big picture.

    • Uppercut says:

      Who stole their brains?

Fear this lot having a say in the fewture.

    • James says:

The funny part is — Robert Stewart is Bermudian.

  45. Cleancut says:

Let’s be very honest with ourselves, 80% of the people marching today couldn’t give a rats ass about this property claim.
The PLP have dragged their supporters out there just to show the public that they still have some support.

    • drunken ursula says:

OBA UBP supporters were no different than PLP supporters who marched on Dr. Brown …..they couldn’t care less about the issues…so

      • Sandgrownan says:

Er no..there were two very distinct issues if I recall..one was the refusal to amend legislation to “allow for equal rights for homosexuals” and the second was DREB’s move to bring the Uighars (sp) to Bermuda. So, not really the same thing.

This is just an excuse for a political rally. What you forget, is that the PLP had a golden opportunity to right many wrongs, invest in our people, end discrimination (racial, sexual you name it) , look at past injustices…but the blew it. They were ill equipped for power, ran around like kids in a candy store and whipping up racial rhetoric because, deep down, that’s all they have. No ideas, no plan, no clue. Nothing. They blew it.

And this bunch of idiots cannot see that.

        • Cleancut says:

Oh they see it. But they have a plan! The PLP know that the only way they can regain votes is to do what they are doing now, with the help of Chris Furbert and the “Peoples Campaign”

We are going to see a hell of a lot more theatrics from these two groups in the coming years!

All at the expense of the country.

  46. juicy says:

All the unsupported comments appears that the individual him/her seems to undermine their own self respect….by pointing out the faults of others and intentionally missing the individual’s point and the reason for their actions.

What do they call those individuals???? Masters of Destruction!

  47. Tricks Are For Kids says:

Smh…. Even with the spelling mistakes YOU ALL know exactly what is being said…….. so immature…..

Make me laugh…….got this and that to say how foolish it is or no one is going to show or you’re not intrested but you certainly have time to “troll”………

  48. Schizophrenic says:

Looks about 500 people there.that is not even 1% of Bermudas total population.

    • GOD1ST says:

LOL you are so insecure hater.

      • Jahkai says:

Odd comments from a devout Christian. You’re not going to be troubling the VIP room in heaven.

  49. ABC says:

theres a mason de labour dont no how 2 read tape measure

u dont belittle de labour u teach him

give a men a fish he eat for a day teach a men 2 fish he eat forever

  50. Jay Maloy says:

If they are marching because of supposed corruption, then fine. But what is with all the PLP banners?

You’re marching against corruption so you want to put the people who were voted out for corruption allegations back in?

And you’re marching on the representative of the queen as if they give a damn what some uneducated island folk think in the first place. As soon as they see those PLP banners they know your just marching for your team and not any for legitimate ideology.

“Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups” – Carlin

    • Jahkai says:

      Best comment of the night.

Exactly. I’ll say it again as Jay did, you’re marching against corruption, yet you want the PLP back in?

      Explain that one.

  51. GOD1ST says:

WOW!!! what is a big turnout!!!!

    • God last says:

You should come round my house after I’ve been to House of India. That’s a turnout.

  52. drunken ursula says:

hey OBA supporters say what you want none of you all leaving the island…you all living well in BERMY…oh buy the way take ya hoods off …brunch of clowns

    • Creamy says:

Oh, is Drunken Ursula your real name then? Or are you wearing a hood as well?

    • Cow Polly says:

LMAO if they’re OBA supporters then they can vote which means they’re Bermudian so where are they gonna go love? Take a breath and think!

    • Come Correct says:

      Someone say brunch?!

    • Unbelievable says:

      And your spelling is atrocious.

    • Jahkai says:

Hey drunken Ursula, teach your buddies to spell. Not about hoods, it’s about arguments, and I don’t see any. Just shouting.

  53. Sick n Tired says:

Hmmm . . .looking at the signs and the comments above . . .”investgate” . . .I don’t think our public education system is to fault for his spelling problems!!!!!! IJS!!!

  54. TSOL says:

“hey OBA supporters say what you want none of you all leaving the island…you all living well in BERMY…oh buy the way take ya hoods off …brunch of clowns”

You better pray they don’t leave. The moment that happens and the island is left to that ramble, YOUR cushy lifestyle will be over.

    • Danielle says:

They aren’t going anywhere, they never had it so good.
All gummy smiles and handshakes to our faces, then a knife in the back when they think nobody is looking.
That’s ok, I got their number.

      • Jahkai says:

Danielle. Look around you, have we never had it so good? Really?

Obviously thousands of white upper class people voted the OBA in.

Wrong, thousands of ordinary folks did, because the PLP were and are, a joke.

I’m glad you got my number, give me a ring.

  55. Come On Man says:

it looked more like a PLP rally with the promise to Bda people by Marc Bean or was it to the PLP supporters plus all the PLP banners and chants, they really know how to use their loyal supporters..

  56. Schizophrenic says:

The former PLP MP who said that his family was well compensated and the march was futile, was Mr.Reginald Burrows.

  57. ABC says:

im sick and tired of u clowns belittle de grammar

i work wit de best foreman built u de perfect home

dont no how 2 read and write but give him numbers

sad but funny and u all de same ones all theory BUT no COMMON SEnSE

  58. truth be told says:

WOW! look at the clowns of the plp at Government House

  59. Expat who is leaving says:

zane “PLP all the way”…what a joke.

    • Soooooo says:

Come on you know it’s Zane all the way.. He ‘s just there for the photo op, the $ is all he cares about

      • LOL (Original TM*) says:

One wonders if he thinks he could ever be the PLP leader? Does he think for a second that the PLP supporter would vote him as the leader?

        LOL

  60. Never HAPPY says:

This is to funny!!! One minute you all not happy with UBP when they were in power, then PLP came in power not happy with them and now OBA in power still not happy.

  61. MDB says:

Well, looks like Bermuda is F@#*ed. All we need now is for it to go independent then the PLP and there minions will be ecstatic. FML. You would think we were stuck in the past. OH wait. “Bermudians” are. What is a Bermudian ? Not one person can tell me they have dated there family history back to only Bermuda. We all come from else were. Oh well guess we should all go back to our homelands now and leave the island back to the Devils and Hog’s that they found here.

    That is all.

    • PBanks says:

To be fair, there are several who cannot date their family history to beyond Bermuda because their forefathers were displaced from their previous homes through no fault of their own.

  62. Beware says:

PLP/BIU Comedy show, and of course not a sell out crowd and the show goes bankrupt like everything PLP/BIU! ON TO THE NEXT FLOP !

  63. Chaos Theory says:

The final public statements on the video say it all, “PLP all the way, all the way PLP”.

This was a party political broadcast, brought to us by the spin doctors in Alaska Hall. Nothing more and nothing less.

And this coming from someone who actually supports a Commission of Enquiry into these event; to finally put the issues to bed. There is so much spin and urban myth over so many of the issues, that it deserves to be cleaned up – so we have the real truth, not just the PLP “truth”, not just the other “truth”, the real truth.

Until that happens, it is just going to go around and around and the stories and myths will get bigger and “badder” and there will be no resolution.

    • Cleancut says:

This was a SET-UP by the PLP. We can expect a hell of a lot more marches to come. The “Peoples Campaign” will be next. It has been very well orchestrated to boost the PLP vote. Expect many more after work 5:30 marches.

  64. truth be told says:

WOW! look at the clowns of the plp

  65. Mangani says:

    Any and all get togethers…of both parties….any get together or cruise…or party…meeting etc…etc…etc…should be followed up by a raffle…all who attend put in a dollar…or five….and receive a number….

  66. Mangani says:

Political rallies especially, the money should be put straight through a money counter ,and deposited into a bank machine via security firm.Winner gets it deposited directly into an account belonging to them.Remember….these are politicians!

  67. Alvin Williams says:

BERMUDA PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE SPURIOUS COMMENTS SPIT OUT BY THE ANTI-BERMUDIAN ELEMENT IN THIS COUNTRY; FOR THEY CAN NOT STOP THE RAIN; THEY KNOW THAT THEIR TIME IS SHORT; THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL.
WE WILL LIBERATE OUR DEAR BERMUDA BUILT ON THE SHOULDERS OF GENERATIONS OF BERMUDIANS AND HANDED DOWN TO US TO PRESERVE FOR THE GENERATIONS OF BERMUDIANS TO COME. WE WILL NOT FAIL IN THIS SACRED MISSION WHICH IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY AND OUR DUTY.

    • coolieh says:

What nonsense…? What are you talking about…? You just made this stuff up…?

Anti-Expat nonsense the PLP has spewed for the last 10 years has come home to roost!

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction! Hence unemployment…

God help us if we lose IB!

You cannot expect different results doing/saying the same things. Next time we’ll see much higher unemployment – maybe permanent.

Please do your homework and realize the potential ramification of the PLP current rhetoric/politricks.

Please find a creditable leader that has vision and understand Bermuda’s economy and, more importantly, how it works.

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

What do you think the OBA are trying to do… it was the PLP government that brought our public education system to the brink of ruin, it was their neglect and inaction that nearly toppled our economy with unsustainable debt. We want justice and we want business, not PLP rhetoric.

    • Beware says:

And that Duty Alvin didn`t matter when you lot were Government did it! You like to listen to your own blah, blah, blah. Same ol,same ol from you. You can`t handle it man! And where were all the young people your handing down to ?? I didn`t see any!

Correct Britain views Bermuda like Scotland. A drain on resource.

And meanwhile, every time you go to USA you gotta get a visa, like those nice Fillipinos you chose to castigate.

  74. Sandgrownan says:

So, nothing to do with the Governor’s decision, just an excuse for the PLP to wind up the rhetoric and get window lickers out. Nothing to see here…..meh

  75. haha says:

Why don’t we all get a marijuana march going….bet we could get more people than that.

    • edwin says:

Yea, that’s when ALL the OBA marchers will come out.

  76. bornb says:

Judging by the comments of the numerous nay-sayers this island is DOOMED. I can see through a lot of the comments and know that Non-Bermudians are behind a lot of them. If you have such disrespect for BERMUDIANS views that you feel we have no voice then I say why are you in BERMUDA, shame on you to be here and disrespect our people. If your home was any good you’ll still be there I’d say. Have some decency!!! Just because one persons views are different from yours does not mean you have to be rude degrading and negative. If you have nothing good to say or a REAL solution to the problem which all locals and residents in this country face then shut your mouths!!! This goes to all the local nay-sayers as well, you are ALL acting like little kids throwing tantrums!!! So sick of all this fighting back and forth crap…. what next??? geesh man.. can’t we just live in peace love and happiness on this little 21 sq mile island. argh!!!

    • Vhovho says:

This is a really unfair statement. Why are you being presumptuous about expats commenting on Bermuda issues.? You need expats…..what if they all put their tools down tomorrow….the Island would collapse in a day.

      • Bullseye says:

Actually the naysayers are correct. Plus the island need not be doomed if not for the contempt, deception, fabrication, and imagination of the PLP. This has been an exercise of distortion by the PLP base who are still enraged they were not reelected and will do anything to destroy any progress on the island just in hopes they can get back in. It is a terrible time in our history. It bombs the foundations of those who fought before to have a voice only to have that voice shout for destruction. We Bermudians are not blind – do not act like you speak for us. You do not.

    • Peace says:

I think the vast majority on here care about the island. I happen to be a local, but if I was not then would I not have a right to free speech? Some people look at the world differently than me, and that does not make them wrong. If there are any Non-Bermudans giving opinions, then it is great to have different viewpoints.

Comments on either side of an argument sometimes cross the line, and can be seen as degrading. Sometimes people don’t even mean to do this, and it just comes out that way. Those that seem to be totally degrading, regardless of where they stand, tend not to represent the majority.

  77. Spliffs says:

    De Ganga tea is working.

  78. Vhovho says:

I just don’t understand this march…..Why now? When PLP was in power why did this not happen?

Someone enlighten me…..isn`t everyone on this Island an expat? Who settled on this Island first? it seems there is a bit of amnesia going on here.

Poor PLP…..WHAT A WAY OF CAMPAIGNING….why not focus on the education system instead. Encourage children to do well in school.

Yes I am entitled to my opinion………:)

  79. ….Surely you jest. says:

So many comments, so little sense. It is worth remembering that the last time folk marched on Government House was in 2001 when a band of of people of a different hue warned that single seat constituencies and “one man one vote; each vote of equal value” would be the end of Bermuda as we knew it and lead to dictatorship. They marched to Government House and Governor Masefield appeased them by organizing a public meeting at which they could vent about how evil Jennifer Smith was and how these constitutional changes had to be stopped by the British Government. I don’t recall any of these foul names and insults being hurled against them by those opposed to their protest. Funny, some people’s protest is just fine and other’s is “chaos, a rabble, angry and fruitless”. The optics of both crowds then and now tells the story. At least the British invited the 2001 crowd into the house. The 2014 crowd was kept at the gate. Welcome to Bermuda.

    • micro says:

Probably because there were fewer places to actually do so? And lets be real here, if this was an march by some other party or a non-political group all together, the very same type of comments would be made.

  80. Coffee says:

I can’t believe that already one OBA premier has resigned in disgrace and the rabid followers of the OBA are online snickering because of the misspelling on a protest sign . Why didn’t you protest the resignation of a disgraced former leader of the OBA ? Why didn’t you snicker online when Mark Pettingill got outta dodge before being forced out . You want to snicker about Marc Bean , than you must also snicker about Shawn Crockwell , ask him to tell you about the pitfalls and the adrenaline rush when he bagged the package of contraband from the Supreme Court of Bermuda ! Snicker online about that !

    • Peace says:

This issue is between the governor and the PLP.

      There are many camps:
      - Those that don’t want the governor to resign
      - Those that think this is another move toward independence by PLP
      - Those that think the PLP is going overboard in this case
      - Those that simply don’t like the PLP, based on past experience
      - and so on …

Yes some people are picking on the spelling, but that is not the majority. It would have happened if this was about an OBA rally as well; quite unfortunate. It does detract from the main issue.

      • micro says:

Not even an issue really, if the PLP weren’t so hot headed they could’ve gone back and made the proper revisions the Governor requested.

        • No No No says:

they could have done this with the Governor GRANTING the report

  81. Maximus says:

The silly remarks about spelling and grammar aside… I’m intrigued by the possibilities. Would a successful campaign to repatriate land or money set a precedent? Specifically for the people whose land was taken for the bases and airport, and how about all the land usurped for railway?

    • Peace says:

It sounds like a very costly endeavor, that will take a many lawyers and many years to resolve. I guess PLP did not think of this when they sold Morgan’s Point.

      • X man says:

        Good Point! [ Morgans Point!
BUT ‘ – This is not about Land theft – thats just the Political theme – it’s about rallying the troops together
and evaluating it support structure and base.– then getting the somebody in the OBA to say something negative on it can
stir up emotions.– Political Strategy that could just have the results the the opposition is looking for,
After this March the PLP is looking to gain back some of it’s supporters.– this is only a political program.
Your going to see a lot more activities from the Opposition until the next election.
The Dangerous thing is that it could work.

  82. Have you heard? says:

So the Governor wants to find out how to support all the claims? Well he can start with the Gibbons family. If you check into it, they own majority of the land in Tucker’s Town as well as through out the rest of the island. Yes they have their own stores, banks and other establishments but lets look back to the early 1900′s or even further and see what role their family has played. So Mr. Governor, you wanted someone who will pay for the claims, here is a good one. They are worth billions anyways so it shouldn’t hurt their pockets too much.

  83. feel the love says:

2,000 people?? I doubt that but even it it was 2,000 people all that proves is 2,000 people looking for a hand out. 2,000 people care about this yet they want to spends ungodly amounts of money to explore history to pad their wallets? Face it people, government takes land in all countries…fact! It is history. People were paid for their property, move on. There are much pressing issues with this country than revisiting the past to try and garnish votes. You do realize this is purely a ploy by the PLP to distract from the pressing issues right? Why didn’t they explore this when they were in power? Simple answer is it would not have distracted from the issues that needed to be dealt with and they were in power so why bother. They were more interested in spending you money.
Let’s move forward. We need to quite frankly. All this crap about looking to the past is wasting time and energy…unfortunately the PLP seems to be brilliant at look behind not ahead.
I hesitate to even mention the signs from todays march…sad…just sad. Shows how far bermuda has fallen.
Wake up Bermuda!!! This sort of negative, backwards thinking is not what we need….look forward!

  85. Triangle Drifter says:

Let me see…do I have this straight? The PLP/red shirts/BIU go for a little walk to Government House because they are not happy with a decision the Governor has made. Unfortunately The Gov is not home. He is not even on the Island. The PLP & followers knew this before they went for their little shuffle.

What was the point? Can the bill for all of the extra police & the inconveience to the general public be sent to Alaska Hall?

    • Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

      @Triangle Drifter…

It really is inconsequential that the Governor is off the island on vacation in London, he has made us aware that he is reading the comments on the blog. And with keen interest so are other foreign interests.

What the march has highlighted is that this blog is being used as a OBA counter-protest. Yes, OBA supporters are protesting against the march – freedom of expression! But whether it is a few under many aliases or a majority of OBA supporters protesting – it is unclear.

Unfortunately, your counter-protest has descended into ridicule, spiked with malicious remarks and spun completely off point. This is about historic social injustices, not spelling mistakes on signs. It’s about seeking a Commission of Inquiry to investigate historic land grabs, not about spinning and gloating PLP supporters into turning it into an issue of race.

If truth must be told the PLP dropped the ball on this issue (land grabs) when they were in power and I for one was seething with anger, and I have written about it on previous blogs. But why now for the PLP can only be answered by the PLP, and I for one, am grateful that they are taking this issue very seriously. And please do not attempt to open the door to your conspiracy theories, OBA supporters, there are enough political theories in Bermuda to fill the chronicles of Roswell!

If not now, when? No time will ever be the ‘right time’ to begin a Commission of Inquiry as it stands juxtaposition against the America’s Cup. Link? They both require funding from the Consolidated Fund. And, in my mind, they both having the equal and unreserved right to be given the full support of all Bermudians, irrespective of race, ethnicity and/or financial worth. And I would like to invite all PRC holders to join in the support of both causes, Bermuda deserves nothing less.

      London, England

      • Sandgrownan says:

If you think this has anything to do with a “Commission”, then you are fooling yourself.

This is pure politics, nothing more, whipping up the party faithful into a frenzy.

      • LOL (Original TM*) says:

Not to worry we lost the cup see today’s news. One day after this march.

LOL not saying this was the reason for lossing it though.

  86. Kathy says:

FIX public education system NOW! We cannot fix Bermuda without all children getting an equal education! Close all the public schools, open more private schools, those that can’t pay can apply for scholarships and government grants based on earnings funded by international businesses. All children in Bermuda should be afforded the same education and high standards, which includes strict discipline and tolerance for racial differences and economic inequality. There is no reason all children should not be brought up to the same education standards. If we carry on with this lack of education and breeding of ignorance, the island will not survive!

    • No No No says:

      wow. that is interseting,
but Im sure your “private” school boards will have some real problems with this integration….Hence the reason why they are expensive “private” schools in the first place

  87. enough says:

I wonder what would be said by the PLP, People’s Campaign, CURB etc if a Commission was eventually convened, cases examined and the final report recommended that various families’ estates had been wrongfully seized and that reparations were in order, however, all of the families involved were white Bermudians.

  88. Explain this says:

March 19th, 2011 – Junior Environment Minister David Burt told the Senate of Government’s sympathy for descendants of families who were forcibly removed from Tucker’s Town in the 1920s.

However Senator Burt argued it’s now Government’s job to look after the people of today meaning it needs to try to revitalise tourism with the Rosewood Tucker’s Point development.

Anti-racism group CURB had objected to the Special Development Order for the hotel’s expansion, pointing to the history of the site, where dozens of mainly black families were evicted more than 80 years ago in the interests of tourism development backed by Parliament.

Opening yesterday’s debate in the Senate, Sen Burt said Government “hears and understands the cries” of those campaigners.

But he added: “We are unable to undo the past but we can certainly take steps to ensure the future wellbeing of our people.”

Can Someone please Explain why in 2014 the PLP is acting like this is the end of the world when 2011 they did not even bat an eye?????

  89. cicada says:

What about the other bulk land re-structuring over the 400 years?
Farmers were moved from lands around
    - Belmont Hotel Golf course
    - Southampton Princess
    - Port Royal golf course
    and had to start over.
Basically any large golf course was once houses and farms.
The whole area between Fort Hamilton and the North Shore that was depopulated for military defense of Dockyard, as was a wide swatch around Fort Scaur
Morgans Point was islands owned by farmers; Dockyard too.
It is interesting how we only remember some of this…

  91. LOL (Origina lTM*) says:

I’m tired of being lied to by every politrical party in Bermuda. Let’s do it then, let’s have a commission from yesterday right on back to say 400 year. Expose it all tally up the “losses” on each side Subtract them from each other and then we would have a value to work with.

LOL while we are at it please also televise all political meetings from caucus meetings to the house so the people can truly decide and have a better understanding of what these parties are about and where the minds of the supporter really are. The truth will set you free.
