Water Pipeline Being Expanded In Somerset

October 8, 2014

Bermuda Waterworks Ltd. said they are commencing trenching works to expand the company’s pipeline into Sound View Road and East Shore Road, in Somerset.

This expansion is the continuation of works started in 2010 and will fulfill the Company’s obligation under the Memorandum of Understanding with the Bermuda Government to expand into the western parishes of the island.

CEO of Bermuda Watertworks Ltd., Allan Rance commented, “Today we are happy to begin trenching in Somerset as we are fulfilling our commitment to extend our pipeline into the Sound View and East Shore Road area in Sandys Parish.

“This project is part of an overall plan to enable the Company to offer its product and service to new clients in a densely-populated residential area in Somerset.

“We are pleased to be extending our distribution system and this project is another example of how we are committed to investing and strengthening the company’s infrastructure to serve the Bermudian public.”

Mr. Rance added, “We are delighted to be able to offer more Somerset residents our Watlington Water, metered water service. This summer was quite a wet one, especially with record rainfall during August which substantially dampened demand for our product and service at the time.

“Demand has increased since then and we know that rain comes and goes. To avoid running short during future dry-spells we recommend that interested residents sign up for our service now while the pipeline work is being installed because it becomes much more expensive to come back after the trenching project has passed their property to dig up the road a second time to make a connection.

“The cost at least doubles after the trench has been closed when compared to the connection fee charged at the time the trenching project is underway. Ideally one should sign up for a connection before the trench passes their property.

Mr. Rance added, “We do apologize in advance to the residents in the Sound View area for any inconvenience that the trenching works may cause. The duration of the trenching works will be approximately 2 to 3 months and we encourage the residents to contact us during this period should they wish to connect their homes with our service, because great savings are to be had for those who sign up while the trench is open.

“This new offering is not only testament of Bermuda Waterworks’ commitment to the Bermuda marketplace, but it also reflects our position that access to an adequate, healthy piped water supply is essential to modern day living and is an expected part of the infrastructure in first world countries in the 21st centuries.”

Mr. Rance also noted, “We are pleased to be accomplishing another one of our infrastructure goals for 2014 with this Somerset expansion.” Earlier this year the Company extended its pipeline from Somerset Bridge to Sound View Road before the cruise ship season commenced.

“It is now planned to complete Sound View and East Shore roads by early next year and complete the loop back along Somerset Road to Sound View Road junction before next year’s cruise ship season begins in April. Allied with the pipeline expansion was the installation of a new brackish water reverse osmosis plant to make a higher quality drinking water product with reduced power consumption.

Bermuda Waterworks Ltd. is currently offering discounts on connection fees for those area residents who connect to the pipeline before the trenching passes their property. For further information, please contact Bermuda Waterworks Ltd. 236-1288 or visit bwl.bm

Please put the pipes in the railway trail or something. I can’t deal with this again! It was like 10ft of pipe added every other day! Either wwork faster or do this somewhere else!

Not available in all residential areas like Woodlawn Rd (phillpots drive, Butterfield lane, beach road, patience avenue, patience lane, patience close and what other roads I failed to mention off Woodlawn Rd.)

Unfortunately they have to a significant# in order to dig.

    Sucks

I hope someone is going to recompense me for the damage my car has suffered driving over the rough roads to the West End left by the trenching. Three times engine hoses have broken on my car causing overheating and requiring a tow. The road surfaces are appalling and westenders are suffering from it.
