Teachers’ Academy Off To A Successful Start
Thirteen educational leaders from Bermuda’s schools embarked on a professional learning journey together last Thursday [Nov 13] as the Saltus Teachers’ Academy launched the second cohort of Leadership Development.
Nine participants from the Berkeley Institute, Warwick Academy, Bermuda High School and Saltus started their National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership, while a further four started their National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership.
The second cohort of ‘Leadership Development’ trainees included Tony James of ‘Inspiring Leaders’, Shanna-Lee Kerr [BHS], Mark Thorpe [Warwick Academy], Keisha Douglas [The Berkeley Institute], Rachel Sully [Warwick Academy], Tiannia Symonds [The Berkeley Institute], Nadia Robinson [The Berkeley Institute], Liz Dowdell [Saltus], Christianna Hiles [Saltus] and Nicole Carter [Saltus].
The two-day workshop was facilitated by Mr. Tony James from Inspiring Leaders, a UK based provider of leadership development for teachers in the UK and around the world.
Mr. James will be working with the group online and through two more on-island workshops over the next 12-18 months. The programmes lead to an internationally recognized qualification accredited by the National College for Teaching and Leadership [UK].
Saltus Head of School Claire Charlemagne commented, “We see this as a truly positive development for schools in Bermuda. Sharing practice between our schools will assist our educators to develop as professionals and raise standards for all of our students.”
Saturday 15th November saw a group of 18 Saltus teachers train as Facilitators with Mr. James from Inspiring Leaders. The one-day workshop is the first in a series of workshops aimed to develop participants‟ confidence and expertise in delivering professional development to adult learners.
Spaces are currently available to embark upon a Masters in Education/Educational Leadership with Nottingham Trent University, through the Saltus Teachers‟ Academy. Enrollment is currently open for a January 2015 start. For more information, please email Dr. Sheine Peart, Course Leader, at sheine.peart@ntu.ac.uk
