PLP Extend Condolences To Two Families

December 28, 2014

The Progressive Labour Party said they “would like to acknowledge two stalwarts who have unfortunately passed on recently and extend our condolences and best wishes to their families and friends.”

A PLP spokesperson said, “Mrs. Madge Smith, of St. George’s, will leave behind a legion of family and friends who will miss her tremendously. Mrs. Smith was a PLP stalwart and our members and supporters from the East will remember her fondly.

“We also recognize Mrs. Barbara Johnston, a member of Constituency 27, Warwick North Central, and a regular attendee of Central Committee. Mrs. Johnston was the most vocal champion for the legislation that was passed under the PLP government which erased the death tax charge on the primary homestead.

“This tax had previously caused much financial hardship to Bermudians who in many cases had to remortgage properties once their parents passed away. Under the new law, this was not necessary. Many of us owe Mrs. Johnston our gratitude and appreciation.

“It is always difficult to lose a family member, and this loss is often magnified when it occurs around the Christmas season. To all families that are dealing with loss this Christmas season, we extend our heartfelt condolences. May you all be comforted by the memories of your loved ones.”
