Department Of Health Commends Restaurants

March 27, 2015

The Department of Health said they “would like to commend sixty seven restaurants that have installed grease traps ahead of the March 31st 2015 deadline that will be imposed by the Department of Health in collaboration with the Corporation of Hamilton.

“The intent of this release is to thank those establishments which have made the effort to comply and to alert the non-compliant restaurants of the need to act or risk not being able to operate at the start of April 2015,” a spokesperson said.

“Some businesses have grease traps that need upgrading, are on order or are in the process of installing them. The deadline for installing the grease traps coincides with food establishment relicensing at the end of March 2015 and businesses may not be relicensed if the grease traps have not been installed.

“The complete list can be found on the Government Portal, and is reprinted below. Additionally three ‘Don’t clog’ with FOG!” brochures have been developed by the Department of Communication and Information [DCI].

“Two brochures contain guidance for food businesses [those inside and outside the City of Hamilton] and a third brochure is for Bermuda residents in general; so that everyone can adopt the behaviours needed to keep FOG out of drains and ultimately out of the ocean.

“The brochures can be found on the Government Portal. Please visit health.gov.bm to view the brochures and learn what everyone can do to keep Bermuda’s marine bathing water quality at a high standard.”

I’m glad this was put out for the public. What I would like to see are restaurant health scores/grades posted MONTHLY or weekly if that is the case (along with any violations). These should also be posted at the entrance of the establishment.

  2. Concerned says:

What I would like to see is the sidewalks scrubbed with hot water and some type of concrete cleanser This morning walking past the entrance to the Mall on Church Street the sidewalk was terribly nasty and tended to be sticky and slippery All sidewalks where restuarants/eateries are located should be required to keep the sidewalks scrubbed and clean.
