“In-Depth Investigation” Into Bus Collision

March 13, 2015

The Ministry of Tourism Development and Transport confirmed that the Department of Public Transportation, with assistance from the Bermuda Police Service, is “conducting an in-depth investigation” into the bus collision that occurred earlier this week at the bottom of Spurling Hill, outside of Great Things.

On Wednesday a bus crashed into parked cars, resulting in eight people receiving minor injuries, damaging at least three parked vehicles and also damaging a utility pole, resulting in approximately 40 customers having their power knocked out.

“It is early in the investigation and there is still much work that needs to be done before any final determination can be made,” said the Director of the Department of Public Transportation, Mr. Dan Simmons.

“Collisions, such as this one, are a very rare occurrence and it is important that we do our due diligence and gather as much information as possible to assist in determining the probable cause.”

“The DPT is requesting that any person who may have witnessed the collision to please contact the DPT for information purposes. You can call the Operations Manager on 292-3851,” a spokesperson said.

I for one do not trust the ptp to carry out an investigation, the Police are the ones that should be doing this.

Where goes it say “THE PLP” in this story?

      • NO MORE WAR says:

Um they are saying the ptp and probably meant ptb. The real question here is how on earth could you get PLP from ptp. Hmmmmm. Shows where your mind is at.

      • Sky Pilot says:

Where does it states PLP in my comment???

read what it says,NOT what you think it says!

      • somuchless says:

I think they where referring to the PLP. They made a typo. I think it was supposed to read Ptb

      • Varied says:

They probably meant ptb, the old name for that department

  2. Sharing is caring says:

The big question: will the public get to see the full report into how this near-tragedy transpired?

    • Raw Onion says:

After PATI comes into effect then all govt materials become available to the public. Until then, we can only see what is released by the police, courts or DPT/Ministry of Transport….or through gossip.

  3. Terry says:

    Who investigates accidents and crime.
    Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. watcher55 says:

Hope the phone records form part of the investigation, PTB with the assistance of the BPS….WoW

  5. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

WTF!!!…was the bus driven by a human..?? or did something drop out of the sky..?? the ONLY person that can tell you what happened would be the DRIVER…who is asking for witnesses…is it the DPT or the DPP..?? You fill in the blank on that one.

  6. Seek the Truth says:

Has anyone asked if RenRe has any CCTV footage? Or Anyone else for that matter? Be the first thing I would do in an in depth investigation.

    • Raymond Ray says:

Good point, ” Seek the Truth” and yes, I also would suspect there be adequate surveillance cameras in the area and that the Police / Insurance Compy. will be viewing all such footage to see why / how this came about…

  7. Karma says:

I would be very interested to see if they (whomever does this investigation) will release their findings to the public….

  8. MAKE MY DAY says:

One of 3 things caused this mayhem… The bus was defective – the driver was speeding or driving “recklessly” or the driver was under-the-influence!!

Take your pick!! And there had better be “transparency” with the final police report – NOT BHO type transparency either!!

  9. positivity says:

I hope we see the results of the investigation. I ride the bus every day on that route.
