PLP Commend BPS, BFRS, Bystanders, Teacher
Saying the PLP “like all of Bermuda was shocked and dismayed over the bus collision on East Broadway,” Shadow Public Safety Minister Walter Roban commended the Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, BELCO, bystanders and the preschool teacher for their work in the aftermath of the situation.
Yesterday a bus crashed into parked cars on East Broadway, resulting in eight people being injured, including two visitors to Bermuda as well as children. All the injured people were treated at the hospital, however fortunately all of them had minor injuries, and none of them required admission.
In addition to damaging at least three parked vehicles, the bus also damaged a utility pole, resulting in approximately 40 customers having their power knocked out, with BELCO restoring all power by 8.10pm that evening.
Mr. Roban said, “The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party, like all of Bermuda, was shocked and dismayed over the bus collision on East Broadway yesterday.
“At this time we are grateful that injuries were not more numerous or more serious and commend Warwick Preschool educator Linnal Simons for all that she did to ensure the safety of her students.
“We further acknowledge and commend the Bermuda Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service for their swift action, the bystanders for their assistance, BELCO for working to swiftly restore power and the motoring public for cooperating with police and rescue services despite the traffic delays.
“While there has been much speculation via social media as to the cause of this accident, it is important that investigators be permitted to complete their investigation so that the facts may be ascertained. We encourage the public to be responsible, not pass on false or speculative information and await the findings.”

Why does the PLP have to comment on this issue? I expect a statement from the Ministry of Transport, but not the political parties. Anyone care to explain the reasoning?
its called concern stupid!conern for those involved and a thank you for those who helped out be it their profession (police, fire, ect.) or the laymen. idots like you always have to be looking for something to b**ch about.
It’s called…vote teasing…they think if people think they have been thanked by someone, they may favour them in the voting booths.
What the PLP don’t realize, is that it is really annoying people as they have missed so many people, groups, families who have lost and so much more. Every article and news story should result in thanking someone somewhere, or sending thoughts, yet they even fall short of that.
You think they do it out of their hearts for kindness.
You are being used, wake up and smell the coffee.
I would hope that the findings whether good or bad are made PUBLIC thus avoiding rumours and speculation. Transparency is all the people ask for by ALL!
Why do they do this? this isn’t political..why to the PLP constantly feel the need to commend, express dismay/concern/shock/condolences, applaud, whatever(choose your own word)?
Nothing to do with the PLP.
Just an attempt to garner points.
Nothing to see here.
another idiot!
Sitting at the computer in your underwear calling people idiots, you are the minority on this thread . What does that make you?
i was one of the emergency responders and appricate the thank you, which in this community seems to be far and few in between and yes its my job but your the type who don’t appricate until it happens to you and yes your another idiot.
Just because people don’t go and say thank you , doesn’t mean that they aren’t grateful or thinking about you guys.
Everytime I hear police , ambulance, or firetrucks my thoughts are going out to everyone involved or impacted, everytime I read or hear of something my thoughts are going out to all involved or impacted.
Using the press to do this is getting press from saying thank you. They are playing a media manipulation game.
The quiet polite thank you’s you hear everyday are from the heart. This is not or it would never be in the press.
I highly doubt you are a first responder, you certainly don’t have the demeanor. And by claiming that you are, you do a great disservice to all first responders.
If you were one of the responders, then I say thank you to you and all involved. Politics should have nothing to do with this , and you don’t need to call anyone an idiot.
“We encourage the public to be responsible, not pass on false or speculative information and await the findings.” – this coming from the PLP.
would you have prefered that it come from the ubp painted with oba paint
It did come from the UBP/PLP!
bbwaahahaha..they are completely lacking in self awareness.
This is what the PLP mean by ‘leadership’ !!!!! Ask them how to solve a problem…they’ll probably still say the same thing. Gibberish….as usual
Just another nauseating and meaningless statement from a political party that should have protected all of our well beings as opposed to what they did!!! They destroyed the majority of ALL bermudians futures and they pick that to stay SILENT about??? All I want to hear from them is they are sorry and will not seek being the government ever again until they are competent enough to do so!!! Which would mean all of them resigning and a whole new group put together!!! May I suggest they spend their time looking for a real job as opposed to still making their living ( albeit in a much smaller way ) off us the real tax payers that dispise everything they did to us!!!!
]Some of you people must be really tired, or you have nothing else to do. What is wrong with hoping and praying that the people on that bus,
especially children, were not injured and that some people were concerned enough to help the passengers off the bus.
Showing concern and compassion is not a PLP or OBA thing, it’s about caring about your fellow human beings. You haters need to take a break, for some of you to constantly criticize the PLP,for showing concern, is just plain pathetic. “NOW I’LL WAIT FOR THE HATERS RESPONSE.”
So this accident has probably been one of the worst in recent memory causing many injuries involving children and destruction in one fell swoop and the Govt of the day doesn’t make any statement or anything or show any concern? Really? Nothing? Not even the Premier? Guess it was no big deal to them huh? Quick to talk about the AC and airport though. Working class bus users not important enough I suppose. Also I bet they will be there for any photo ops if there are any hero awards to be given out. Unbelievable!
Remember the bus drivers and the union are at it. Maybe that’s why. The gov don’t wana see a bus driver face to face lol
Why do politcal parties of any persuasion have to make a statement about a traffic accident? It’s stupid.
But isn’t the point of the statement moreso to commend the actions of those who helped the bus passengers, as well as Belco and the Fire Service?
Surely messages of thank you shouldn’t be subjected to public ridicule?
it is probably the plp’s fault that this took place !!!! they were the one’s who made the purchase of these buses that have been nothing more than oversized problems. could have expected an apology to all involved from the plp.
@ Sandgrownan: “Why do political parties of any persuasion have to make a statement about a traffic accident? It’s stupid.”
Wow that’s cold. The reason is that it shows leadership and public concern. It involved a PUBLIC vehicle, and a PUBLIC worker involving PUBLIC school children among the injured. It shows empathy. Not saying anything at the time showed callousness. It also reduces the dumbness in cruel speculation and vicious rumour mills as we have seen and continue to see on these blogs. I see now since which in the daily today that Premier Dunkley stated something in the House that evening. Well that’s at least something. He had to say something! But I guess that’s not stupid to do right? Only the PLP’s response is stupid? Is that so difficult to do in this stressed out environment? Show concern? Heck. There was more concern given to the cancelled Ag Show on these blogs. For shame. smh.
It’s somewhat true. When given an opportunity, the Opposition Party P.L.P.(Progressive Labour Party)will be “the first horse on the track” And if their concerns are sincere, (which I do believe are) why must it be “the snake in the grass” approach taken if not to lure the general public to actually believe that they, (P.L.P.) are for we the people or them, i.e. M.Ps and their supporters of their Party?
