Society For Blind To Host Eye Health Events
The Bermuda Society for the Blind is getting set to host ‘Get Wise — Shade Your Eyes,’ a series of events promoting eye health and protection, each to be held at Beacon House on the corner of Cedar Avenue and Dundonald Street in Hamilton.
The events will be held tomorrow [May 30] from 10.00am through 12.00pm, June 2 from 4.30pm through 6.30pm, and June 4 from 12.00pm through 2.00pm. All events are free and open to the public.
A spokesperson said, “With summer quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to remind everyone, locals and visitors alike, that wearing proper sunglasses is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to protect your eyes.
“But which sunglasses are the best for You? How much UV protection should your sunglasses provide? Should they be polarized, photochromic, or blue blocking? Should they be flip-ups or fit-overs? Should they be gray lens tints or amber lens tints?
“Join our presentation and hands-on training, ‘Get Wise – Shade Your Eyes’ for the chance to try on several different styles, sizes, and colors and place orders for any you would like to purchase.
“Persons with low vision conditions are encouraged to attend; the sunglasses that we will be demonstrating come from reputable manufacturers that have longstanding relationships with low vision providers.
“Did you know that proper sunglasses offer protection from damaging UV light that can lead to vision loss in the form of cataracts, macular degeneration, and cancer of the eyelid; brightness and glare, especially light reflecting off water, which can be extremely uncomfortable and make even simple visual tasks difficult to do; and dust, dirt, and other debris that can enter your eyes and cause irritation or damage?”
