Hill: OBA Tweet Is “Spurious, Highly Defamatory”

June 8, 2015

Following recent social media exchanges, the One Bermuda Alliance has received a letter indicating there could be legal action taken over the OBA Twitter account posting a photo with a caption saying “Opposition PLP makes mockery of women & transgendered.”

The photo depicts Eron Hill, Chris Famous and Makai Dickerson in attendance at the “Bras For A Cause” protest held on June 4th. The three gentlemen attended the protest to show support, and when asked by others in attendance to put on bras they agreed.

A photo then appeared online showing the three men, with a caption over it saying “Catherine Jenner Support Group,” which we assume was likely meant to be a reference to Caitlyn Jenner.

It is not clear exactly who created the image and initially posted it online, however it was posted on the OBA’s Twitter account on June 6th.

The OBA tweet above was in reply to a tweet from the PLP’s official Twitter account, which tweeted a photo on June 6th of Premier Michael Dunkley and Senator Jeff Baron with a caption saying “picture shows disrespect to cancer victims.”

The PLP tweet tagged the @AmericanCancer @votestarling @BCCare @CDC_Cancer, and the OBA’s initial response on Twitter tagged the same four accounts and said, “The Opposition should coordinate w/their leader on respecting women.#hypocrisy.” The OBA then sent the second reply, as seen above.

This series of tweets did not go unnoticed, with one response saying: ”Poor form OBA! You know the PLP did not write that caption. And to tag in American Cancer Soc, Carib news and CDC,” while another tweet billed it as a “social media fail.”

The exchanges continued, with the OBA tweeting “No we did not write that. We’re highlighting PLP insensitivities,” with another response saying: “We didn’t create the offensive image. But highlighting insensitivities.”

The social media conversation also took place on Facebook, where Chris Famous posted the photo of the Premier and Senator, and ‘tagged’ Premier Michael Dunkley.

In captioning the photo, Mr Famous said: “After staying silent on ‪mammography‬ legislation that he allowed to be tabled Premier Michael Dunkley ignored hundreds of ‪Bermudian‬ ‪women‬ on Thursday evening. Afterwards he and Senator Jeff Baron callously walk all over bras left to signify women suffering and dead from ‪‎breast cancer‬.”

In response to the ‘tag’ on Facebook, the Premier posted, “It is indeed most unfortunate while walking through the display someone took this picture that a few are trying to turn into a political football. I have been married for 34 years. My wife and I have two daughters. My wife is a breast cancer survivor. Anyone who knows me is aware of my utmost respect for women.

“As Premier I will always have great concern and appreciate the people of Bermuda. I am proud that we live in a vibrant democracy where people feel comfortable sharing their opinion and concerns. I applaud the organizers and those who came to the Cabinet grounds for the way they voiced their concerns. This Government will always listen to the people and work hard for Bermuda.

“I wish I could have been at the presentation on Thursday night but I was the Guest Speaker at the Saltus graduation at the same time. My apologies to anyone if Sen. Jeffrey Baron or I unintentionally offended them when we viewed the display.

“We arrive back at the Cabinet around 7.45 pm and got out of the car at the front door, looked at the grounds, walked to the flag pole to read what was posted on it, walked back to the building and did not step on any personal items.

“All Bermudians support this cause so there is no need to make it political or personal,” the Premier concluded.

Bras-For-A-Cause-Bermuda-June-4-2015-1-1-620x413

Eron Hill was already on record as supporting the group, saying: “I fully support the group “Bras For A Cause”; a group that has ‘called for women from all parts of the island to convene on Cabinet Grounds tomorrow at 6pm to hand their bras in support of early detection saving lives.’ I will be there, and invite all to come out to support.”

Following the OBA’s tweet, Mr Hill sent the party a letter saying the One Bermuda Alliance used social media to make comments that “contain spurious, apocryphal and highly defamatory comments towards myself.”

The letter, which is addressed to the Premier, says: “I am simultaneously disgusted and saddened that these altered photos, with such an abominable and cheapening caption have been promulgated into cyber space by the party which you lead.

“This is anything but good leadership or good governance by example, but rather a blemishing of a great cause being diminished by gutter politics.”

Mr Hill states: “I am prepared to file civil proceedings against the One Bermuda Alliance. These proceedings would seek remedies including but not limited to the following:

  • An order from the court for a public apology to Thomas Christopher Famous, Makai Dickerson and myself, Eron Hill.
  • An injunction to restrain you from publishing the same or similar statements in the future;
  • Any legal costs that may be incurred in the process

“It can be noted that I personally will not be seeking damages for the defamatory post. This is strictly a matter of principle for me,” Mr Hill adds.

“As a matter of courtesy I will extend you the opportunity to resolve this matter before it goes any further. I will desist from issuing legal proceedings provided the following conditions are met by Wednesday June 10, 2015 at 5:00pm.”

We asked the OBA for comment about the letter, and a spokesperson said, “The One Bermuda Alliance is not prepared to comment on correspondence received by the party.”

The full letter sent to the OBA is below [PDF here]

Following the “Bras For A Cause” protest —  which saw bras strewn all over the Cabinet Grounds — the Government amended their proposal to change the mammogram screening policy, with Health Minister Jeanne Atherden announcing that they removed that section from the Bill.

    Storm in a Bra Cup.
    Get over the hill.

    • Devonshire says:

So, the PLP defamed the Premier/Gvmnt and tweeted internationally, and the OBA returned in a reply? But the PLP are crying foul? SMDH!

      • Real talk (original) says:

The obvious difference being that none of the men pictured in the OBA’s post are actually public officials of the PLP or members of the Opposition…

        • Black Soil says:

Cry me a river Eron…you big baby.

          • Betty says:

Brilliance of this young man is outstanding. Its good to see young man standing up for what they believe is a critical issue. BREAST CANCER is so important. Sad the government has turned it into such a Mockery.

I will not guess or debate over who created the post, as the individual will live with their own guilt., if they have a conscious. It is clear that it was distasteful and hurtful to many who suffer from Breast Cancer and the push by “Bras for Cause” to stop government from changing the law.

It is unfortunate that the Government decided to fall for such a silly post and Twitter it on their main account. This speaks to the fact that fault lies with the OBA government for poor judgment and poor PR officers role in this entire mess.

Why did the OBA Government do such a silly thing. Twitter reaches many, and what’s more sillier is their unwillingness to remove it. Premier Dunkley needs to step up to a higher ground on this matter, and down his Political Sword and Ego.

Many Campaigns in support of Breast Cancer often feature Men wearing Bras. It is common approach to promote awareness and support. OBA seem to be unaware that this form of support for Breast Cancer is often used by many all over the world. Thus, it goes with out saying, Bermuda would use a similar method of promotion.

It is painful that some folks and OBA supporters do not see beyond the real issue here. The total disrespect for young man who have suffered the pain of losing a love one to breast Cancer. The young man were encouraged to take a picture, in support of all persons who suffered from Brest Cancer.

We deserved so much more from out Government, we deserve a higher level of governance, and not a knee jerk reaction to everything. I call on the government stand up and forward an Apology, and get on with creation of JOB for all. Please…….

            • Cow Polly says:

I’ve had a breast cancer scare and I thought the tweet was just plain funny. Didn’t feel disrespected in the slightest.

Jeez, life is so much more fun when you have the ability to laugh and I would suggest that if this young man really wants to live up to his ‘brilliance’ moniker he develops a sense of humour.

              • BETTTY says:

Cow poll your diehard OBA fan of course you would consider this funny. Failing to hold the government accountable overlooking every and anything they do.

      • Bermudian says:

Can be surprised, the PLP feels that they are the only ones allowed to have free speech. Heck, their leader exercises saying horrid things to women not on his party’s side.

    • Raymond Ray says:

This photo (supposedly) depicting the Junior Minister Mr. J Baron and our Premier Michael Dunkley walking over bras laying on the grounds of the the Senate Building appears to me as if the picture was captured from another incident and then paste on top of the bras shown in the picture above.
Why would these two intelligent individuals take time to purposely walk off of the asphalt path and onto the grass and bras before so many who don’t like him nor Mr. Baron? No, there is more than meets the eye to this…

      • Stop ya noise says:

Obviously they’re not as intelligent as you’d like to think. The premiere admitted walking through them in his statement. So keep your conspiracy theories to yourself.

        • Mockingjay says:

I guess the Premier don’t curse either.

        • JustAskin2 says:

Agreed. I don’t think that the action was malicious; just another example of the so-called intelligent being — well, not so intelligent. In fact, walking among the bras was a pretty dumb thing to do. I did notice a free edge of street that they could have walked on.

Sometimes I think that the OBA leaders are so caught up with their own self-importance that they forget to look both ways before crossing the street, if you’ll pardon the analogy.

      • Mixitup says:

These two intelligent individuals? Lmao! You give these men faar too much credit.. I wonder why?

      • johnny says:

Mr Ray, is your love so blind? The premier already admitted to going off the beaten path.

      • clearasmud says:

@raymond ask them that when you see them!

    • Kenik says:

Hill was the same guy who admitted posting onto SoMe that KKK likeness with “OBA” written across the chest. He didn’t think that defamation?

    • justin says:

Ask Mr Hill for a pic of him in his Halloween costume last year.

      • Fjfnj says:

        What was it?

        • Betty says:

Stop the silliness, the government needs to stand up and take responsibility, rather than reflecting on something that happen way back when. The reality is Mr. Hill was man enough to apologize. He did not create the picture.

However, Here the OBA claims they did not create the post, but it created by one of their loyal supporters. But the OBA must take full responsibility as it was their decision to post it on their TWITTER ACCOUNT….big Mistake at best.

Stop playing the BLAME GAME, as Leah Scott pointed out, and I been saying for a few years now, move on and Apology, and accept your wrong doings. COme on……

The government needs to get serious about JOB creation, and stop playing politics and the Blame Game……really

    • Huh? says:

The PLP stoop low and the UBP get right down there with them.
Get back to work you idiots.

  2. Mary says:

Well done Mr. Hill it’s about time someone stood up to this government.

    • Yahoo says:

Mr Hill is a joke and wasting everyone’s time.

      • Mockingjay says:

One of the most intelligent, focused young men in our society, as long as your getting hate blogs Mr. Hill you are on the right path, I guess being you are not a Surrogate candidate, they are mad at you.
        LMFAO

        • Ed Case says:

          You’re – not your.

I’m available for basic English lessons.

        • Lawyers?? says:

He may be smart but he is bad at law.

I am no lawyer but if already in the public domain there are no damages and there is no such thing as the CPR in Bermuda.

Also that is not a without prejudice letter – he released it to the public (completely prejudicial) and he has put facts in it.

          DUH

        • SANDGROWNAN says:

          Mockingjerk…intelligent…hahahahahaha

  3. Bang says:

I am so proud that this young man is standing up for himself. This was a terrible social media fail by the government and only exposes their true identity.

    • Zevon says:

The loser pays in court, so I hope Mr Hill has the resources to pay the other side’s legal costs when he loses.

  4. Zina says:

Wow, the OBA really posted that on their page. Wow. Wow. Guess I’m a swing voter now

    • Um--what about says:

Ok but where were all if you when the leader of HM Opposition made such awful alleged sexist comments to a fellow politician.

Come on guys you can’t play it both ways.

What did ya’all think about him debasing 50 percent of Bermuda’s population.

Have a Blessed Day and I am delighted that woman can have access to the testing to help them in early detection. That is the issue. Let’s not loose focus gents!!!!

    • Cranberry says:

How fickle can you get lol…

  5. Spoton says:

Hill, keep standing up for what’s right. I am glad that you are standing up against this government who has totally disrespected the event and it’s cause by posting this vile tweet.

  6. Rightoooo says:

David vs. Goliath. I love it. Hill, keep on keeping on brother.

  7. Bill Stephens says:

Go ahead and sue – who cares – at the end of the day the lawyers win and you are no closer to clearing your name.

Anyone who is married to a breast cancer survivor (like me) knows the battle and the outcome and it does a disservice to others to make this a political football.

Why not put energy to raising funds for support of the families who struggle with cancer or helping a family out who cant put dinner on the table because one spouse cant work due to therapy? Do something positive instead of making it political!

    • Jack straw says:

Hey Bill. Last I checked it was the OBA that made this political. And when it comes to Mr. Hill and co. They (OBA) fired the first salvo. Making this situation personal.

  8. Chaa says:

I can’t believe the government has fallen to such desperate measures as this. They have totally distracted all from the cause which these young men and many women stood for.

  9. Kathy says:

These gentlemen were asked by a few women to put on bras to show support for our cause. Shame on the OBA for this post. I am glad that Mr. Hill has taken this stand and demanded an apology. It’s a shame the OBA can’t just apology, instead taken the pathetic way out of ‘no comment’

  10. Life says:

Isn’t this young man like 20? Demanding the government meet his terms as a result of their defamatory action or else he’ll sue them. Bravo! We all can take a note out of his book and start standing up to this government.

  11. Devonshire says:

Fake outrage from Hill….I saw this meme posted on facebook where one of those three guys commented on the image “LOL good one!”…..

    • Nate says:

How can you say fake outrage? let’s say you’re right. We all should be outraged that our government would use such desperate measures

    • Real talk (original) says:

So because somebody else made a comment, Mr. Hill loses any right to be outraged?
      Really?
      Next…

      • .am says:

Hill posted the KKK/OBA image to his Instagram last Halloween.

So yeah. He loses that right.

        • Mockingjay says:

Well when you really look at it the Tea Party in America has connections with the Right Wing and the Right Wing has connections with the KKK and in Bermuda the U.B.P where the OLIGARCHY and now the oba ……..well you figure it out.

          • Mr Stevens says:

            What?

            • e says:

Leave it, he’s on a roll.

            • Mockingjay says:

Are you that NAIVE that you believe that there is ABSOLUTELY no form of Racism or White Supremacy in this beautiful island called Bermuda, its part of our Cultural Conditioning and VERY SUBTLE.
So much so, our Political and social structures are formed by it, and its so DETRIMANTAL that you have those who have ties to the movement of the oppressed that have and are now advocates for the ideology of the oppressors.
              Now how sick is that.

              • umum says:

always playing the victim, mockingmoron….grow up and stop being such a racist pig.

    • Onion says:

The OBA didn’t make the image and were posting to condemn the transphobia.

I guess people don’t bother to read tweets.

      • PBanks says:

Why wouldn’t the OBA twitter person just say that the image, with the inappropriate caption, was a PLP creation, though, if this was the case?

This whole episode is just disgusting to anyone who’s not one of the usual diehard OBA or PLP superfans in this forum or in the FB pages.

  12. Wow says:

Big up yourself Hill. I wish I was there, I would’ve supported in the same way you 3 men did.

  13. Shame says:

This young man has some testicular fortitude, and I must say rightfully so. I can’t believe that a government would post such a thing on their social media page and then refuse to apologize.

    • Stop ya noise says:

You can’t believe it?? Don’t you know the oba by now

  14. Raymond Ray says:

This is how our Premier responded to the accusations: “In response to the ‘tag’ on Facebook, the Premier posted, “It is indeed most unfortunate while walking through the display someone took this picture that a few are trying to turn into a political football.
This Government will always listen to the people and work hard for Bermuda.”
I as a concerned member of Bermuda’s public do view these comments along with possible legal threats as something one expects from them who seek personal recognition and nothing more…

    • Varied says:

What about the “Catherine Jenner” image, though? It seems that hasn’t been clarified at all.

The attempted meme is in poor taste, and both sides appear to be denying ownership of the original product… however it is the OBA who took the image and ran with it.

  15. Nate says:

The OBA have no comment for now; until they decide who’s head must roll..

  16. NCM says:

Devonshire above has it correct – When this picture with caption was poste don Facebook Mr. Dickerson also made a comment….that has been deleted and now we have faux outrage. Should have become a lawyer as they are laughing all the way to the bank with all this foolishness.

    • NCM says:

My above comment has been edited, understandably, to remove the reference to the comment made on the original post on Facebook. It was rather distasteful, to say the least. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt…

  17. Alex says:

As a woman, and as a member of the gay community I am absolutely appalled that the OBA have posted such a defamatory image and I hope that they adhere to this young man’s request. All he’s asking for is an apology, I don’t think that’s reasonable.

  18. Make my day says:

Will the PLP ever grow up and stop with the faux outrage. Eron, you are seriously being used by them

  19. Beanie says:

It’s truly a crying shame that the OBA can’t even apologize. Truly a shame.

    • Inabermystylie says:

WHAT???? Let’s talk apologies…I want the PLP to apologize for wasting my tax paying money, I want them to apologize for a lot of things…never gonna hear it from them…cause they are not sorry! Bean not sorry for disrespecting women…haven’t heard an apology from him. You lot are disgusting…

      • Mixitup says:

Let’s not go there pal.. We can really talk about apologies if you want to go back in time!

    • Zevon says:

Remind us where Jamahl apologized for his tweets, would you? Show us how he did it.

  20. Bill Stephens says:

20 and no clue! Now surely he has not been damaged to the extent claimed.

C’mon – stop with the sour grapes and whining – it is childish to state the least.

The Planet does not know this person nor does it care – instead he could have countered by taking the opportunity to focus on the breast cancer issue at hand, but he chose to be selfish and start a circus around himself. He wants his 15 minutes of fame and then will go quietly into the night!

If everyone reacted to everything said about them in a public forum we would have soapboxes all over Hamilton. A young man complains about damage to his character whereas a man develops character by dealing with the issue at hand.

    • Jah Bless says:

Well vee know who you voted for. Dat “just get over it” mentality is kiling us a country

      • Bill Stephens says:

I am a PLP supporter!!! But I draw the line at stupid and childish behavior which is the norm with my Party as of late. I miss the old guard who would not stand for this showboating and circus acts!

        • Time Shall Tell says:

So you don’t feel the OBA post to be childish? Yet you feel a young man simply asking for a public apology for the childish antics of the OBA to be childish?? Bias much?

        • stupidity says:

Bill you need to join the OBA.

        • Mixitup says:

Bill Stephens must be that 1 percenter ha! Goo Bill!

  21. Jah Bless says:

It’s about time someone took this government to task; they throw lawsuits around like it’s nothing, now they might get a bit of their own medicine should they not apologize

  22. jt says:

Both tweets are abysmal and designed to insight. Both parties should offer apologies.

  23. Serious though says:

continue digging that hole OBA, and blaming everything on PLP…WOW!,,

  24. Cheesums says:

As an OBA supporter I must say that I am absolutely appalled the party I voted for would make such a post and truthfully I wish Mr. Hill the best should this matter go to court. The party has definitely done it to themselves this time.

    • Catch A Fire says:

I agree. However, I trust the person(s) responsible for this will be released.

    • Make my day says:

As an OBA supporter, yeah right you are

  25. C'mon says:

At the end of the day he’s not claiming for any money because of any distress; he’s asking for an apology, and I really don’t think that’s too much to ask for. As a matter of fact I think the OBA owe all the men in the photo an apology as well as the organizers of the event for distracting from their wonderful cause

  26. Oh,I see now says:

Sad days to come for Bermudas future when all the political parties want to do is take pot shots at each other using anything and anyone to prove or make a point. You remind me of divorced parents using the children that you love as pawns to get back at each other. You really do love the kids/country but you hate each other more, try to get along for the children/country.

Mommy and daddy please stop fighting you’re scaring me and my baby brother.
In my little head I’m thinking it’s all my fault my parents/political parties fight all the time.

  27. Bdadiva says:

Both parties should apologize. As for a lawsuit, I don’t think that level of action is warranted. It would serve no good except to those attorneys chosen to represent parties involved.

And young Mr. Hill, the use of “big words” doesn’t do a lot to further your case. In business it’s a good practice to write so that the least educated can comprehend. Otherwise, you sound unnecessarily wordy.

    • C'mon says:

Vell as I understand it’s a legal letter to the Premier. Not a primary school graduation speech papa. Just go use dictionary.com

  28. Austin says:

I read with interest the Premiers response to the posted photo. All was required was an honest apology. Something like “Sorry” instead we get spin, and to add insult to injury, the derogatory caption regarding “the three men in bras”. Is this what we are to expect? Any apology which contains the words “if I offended anyone” is not an apology but an insult. Why? Because you did offend people by walking on the bras. I do not believe that there was any ill will intended, so a simple apology would have been suffice, and all this mess would have been neutralized.
I expect better from our Premier…period!

  29. Watcher55 says:

    Mr Hill…….go to Hill!

  30. Still Laughing says:

Seriously? SERIOUSLY?? I’m embarrassed for BOTH parties over this. To take pot shots at each other regarding such an issue which shouldn’t even be a political matter is beyond reprehensible. Put this silly crap aside to work together to get this country back on its feet!

  31. Harry says:

Keep on keeping on Hill. Wish you the best young man.

  32. James says:

This did not need to be an issue. The OBA should simply apologize, remove the Tweet, discipline the person responsible, and find someone more suitable to manage their social media.

    • Raymond Ray says:

Yes, discipline the individual as well as having that individual step forward and apologize for his actions. They are not the views of all members of the One Bermuda Alliance nor their supporters…

  33. Defamation says:

I have to agree with James. I don’t think Mr. Hill is asking for much in the circumstances. Kudos to him for having the audacity to stand up against a government. But really they should just take this one on the chin, you messed up, now apologize

    • James says:

At the same time, I do also think Mr. Hill is grandstanding and looking for some publicity; however, the OBA should never have posted the image. They created this issue themselves—and it does not better that someone else created the meme.

Now, I also think the PLP image is pathetic, but that’s neither here nor there. The PLP’s Twitter has always been embarrassing.

  34. Huh says:

How childish and pathetic from both sides. No wonder we are where we are. Twitter poster for OBA should be FIRED and should apologize. Mr. Famous should grow up and Mr. Hill should put on his big boy pants and get over it – politics is not for the faint hearted. Mr. Dickerson, welll he should………….

  35. David says:

I don’t think that this needs to go to court but I totally understand and respect Mr. Hill’s stance in this matter. The OBA really messed up on this one. Just apologize already.

  36. X Factor says:

Sorry, but it does appear that the Premier and Mr. Baron are deliberately trampling on the bras and trying to send a message of exactly what they think about the protest. What I notice about the OBA and particularly about Mr. Dunkley is that they deliberately do and say nasty, sarcastic, flippant, condescending, etc. things and then play the wide-eyed innocent, butter-wouldn’t melt-in-our-mouths angle when busted. Some of us can see right through that!

    • Raymond Ray says:

Well, we know who you vote for :-( This photo (supposedly) depicting the Junior Minister Mr.
Baron? No, there is more than meets the eye to this?

      • Kangoocar says:

Ray, just look at Senator Barons legs compared to the Premiers!!! This is a poor copy and paste job that even the pathetic plp should be ashamed of??? The plp nonsense never ends my friend!!!

    • Onion says:

They weren’t. They were walking between them.

    • JustAskin2 says:

LOL. Wow you hit the name on the head with that statement.

  37. Rich says:

There’s not really anything in the retweets that amounts to defamation in law. Some of it is opinion, satire, etc and would likely survive under the fair comment defence. Offensive, yes. But not defamatory.

Having said that, such poor taste from the OBA’s twitter handler.

    • Real talk (original) says:

      Guess it’s a good thing you’re not a lawyer.

  38. Kangoocar says:

Nice try Alaska Hall??? Their seems to be a very high and unusual amount of NEW names on this particular article, denouncing the OBA??? Get real you bunch of tid bit losers!!! You really are sinking to lows that even I thought you were not capable of!!! When will the plp ever grow up??? You are a bunch of losers that cost a very large amount of your supporters their jobs and this is all you can come up with to redeem yourselves???

  39. Kangoocar says:

Thanks plp/Alaska hall for proving that once again I hit the nail on the head!!! 9 dislikes in less than 5 mins proves the truth from me stings you!!! That is exactly why I point out the obvious to you everytime!!! Hahahahahahaha

    • Kangoocar says:

Thanks to all that agree with me!!! I only say the truth and will never let the Alaska hall/plp nonsense fool me!!! Also, I find it very interesting that the latest poll to be presented today that did not have the the name Riley attached to it has the OBA way up over the pathetic plp??? One can only assume the plp are handing out the special tea tonight and drowning thier sorrows??? This is about all the nonsense they have left in their war chest!!! Pathetic bunch don’t you think???.

      • mixitup says:

Poor site… Do you have Mawi on speed dial?

  40. .am says:

Given the PLP’s very public stance on homosexuality and other/alternative lifestyles that aren’t exactly condoned by the church, I’m curious as to who actually believes this image wasn’t created by one of their members. After all – Eron Hill did post a picture of someone dressed up a klansman at Halloween with OBA across their chest which he thought was downright hilarious so ..they’re not really a model of sound taste.

If it is indeed defamation, I’d love to hear about what legislation the PLP is going to put in place to ensure equality for our LGBTQ community.

    • Raymond Ray says:

@ am: Precisely my views…”After all Eron Hill did post a picture of someone dressed up a klansman at Halloween with OBA across their chest which he thought was downright hilarious so…they’re not really a model of sound taste.”
(If it is indeed defamation, I’d love to hear about what legislation the P.L.P is going to put in place to ensure equality for our LGBTQ community.)

  41. Kimmy says:

Wow, I don’t believe that my party has stooped to such low levels. We are often condemning the PLP for such acts and now we’ve marred a tribute to victims of a serious disease with such a distasteful post. I don’t blame the young man and actually support him in the stance he’s taken.

  42. Terry says:

Someone said above about Mr. Famous.
    Very true.
Nothing more than an attention a seperative.

    Sickning really.

And he even gets his own show on and in the news

    Shalom.

  43. Northshore says:

3 grown men playing games with cancer concerns,,,shameful. supersilious grins. Go play your childish game somewhere else !!!

  44. Snowballs says:

Chris looks gooood in that bra!

  45. Unbelievable says:

The PLP is so d@#^ childish. The Premier’s wife is a great cancer survivor for Christ’s sake!!!

    • Unbelievable says:

I meant “breast”. Not great but I guess you would be great if you did survive cancer huh?

  46. Garrus says:

So many fake duplicate pro PLP posts, how stupid do they think we are?

    • hahaha says:

Yeah don’t dem bies kno dis comment section is only for turrin em down. Silly rabbits! smh

      • Garrus says:

Shaking your head? You really believe that Bang, Zina, Spoton, Rightoo, Chaa, Kathy, Alex, Life, Shame and Wow are all different people? Pure propaganda and manipulation designed to create the appearance of popular support!

  47. Larry says:

Stand firm young man. I support the three men who donned the bras for a cause that is so personal to me and many others. I wish you the best and truly do hope the OBA apologize for this nonsense.

    • Onion says:

Why don’t you ask those three men who made the image in the first place?

      Hint: not the OBA.

    • Zevon says:

Anything for a photo op for the “concern of the day”.

  48. Bullseye says:

That OBA tweet is terrible. It is stupid and shallow and thoughtless and ignorant. So many things. Find the idiot and tear the person a new one on the way out the door.

  49. Zevon says:

So the PLP is pretending it respects women now?
What next? Equal rights regardless of nationality?

  50. Confused says:

Wow, you PLP headcases are using some big words. Too bad you don’t know what half of them mean.

    • Unbelievable says:

Yeah it’s always ok for the PLP to say the craziest things.

      Oh wonderful.

  51. User 1 says:

As a young educated Bermudian, I am actually ashamed that Eron Hill’s opinions are supposed to be representing my age range (i.e. synonymous with the Bermudian youth). His letter of demands clearly demonstrates that instead of expressing genuine interest in helping the public of Bermuda by raising further awareness to the “bras for a cause”, he is clearly just interested in getting a personal apology/trying to shame the OBA. I think this will only further perpetuate what he has demeed “gutter politics” and divide the community even more? Both pictures have been clearly taken out of context can we not just leave it at that? Is no one else tired of the negatively and hatefulness clouding our island??

    • Harry says:

Well perhaps you should tell him; but maybe you vont because Ya not really interested in positive change but would rather an opportunity to hide behind a screen name and make comments like this. Regardless of whether you support him or not you have to respect he has the testicular fortitude to stand up for what he believes in, and put his name to it. Unlike is who hide behind screen names. You OBA bloggers make me laugh. Stay strong Hill l, regardless of what the comments on here know you massive support. We all just can’t sit at computers all day and night and compete with such senseless individuals who only have this to do. Press on

      • Mr Stevens says:

It’s the gutter politics that is discouraging would-be politicians and community leaders. Why make the effort to become involved, to make changes, to affect the islands future only to be called a racist, a surrogate, a xenophobe, a homophobe, a criminal, an insulter of cancer patients, have your “Bermudian-ness” questioned and be accused of corruption for your trouble? Mr Hill is out there because he wants to play that game. He is a perpetuation of everything wrong with politics in Bermuda and is called “strong” because of it. If he could put out his positive messages without partaking in the gutter tricks and fights then I’d perhaps believe his intentions were well meaning, but as it is he is in the paper more often in veiled attempts to cause controversy and outrage than any non-partisan helpful messages.

  52. nomoremoney says:

    lts about politricks….sadly.

  53. Triangle Drifter says:

Oh good grief! If this is the most important thing that Hill & the PLP can badger the OBA over then the OBA must be doing a pretty good job.

Squabbling back & forth over pictures posted on the internet by third partys? Really!!! Get a life! Both sides.

What is this one going to be cleverly labeled, bra gate? Maybe Bust gate? Some boob will give it a name.

  54. Northshore says:

Yet another windbag! Training under Famous no doubt!

  55. Raymond Ray says:

Each week we see either the Opposition, (P.L.P.)or the B.I.U. or another union group or some others who are affiliated with them who oppose the One Bermuda Alliance. To add insult to injury, they dig deeper into their bags of tricks in an attempt to discredit our Government…
Our Government are doing (overall) a damn good job of right-siding the economy and putting Bermuda back up on an even keel.

    • Mockingjay says:

Hey Stomin Norman do you expect people to just shut up and let this Government do as they will, do you consider that Dictatorship, your problem is your U.B.P/oba party are getting EXPOSED on a regular and you can not take it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      LMFAO

      • Really??? says:

Hmmm where were you when EB was being a dictator???

  56. aceboy says:

    Tit for tat memes.

    How mature.

So, when Eron posted the pic of the hooded OBA guy, that wasn’t spurious or defamatory?

    Ridiculous.

We have much bigger issues to deal with, this is silly sidetracking nonsense.

OBA don’t stoop to the level of the PLP.

    • Mockingjay says:

No it was fitting, that would’ve been equal to someone having on a Black Panther outfit with P.L.P posted.

  57. Alvin Williams says:

Governments rarely if at all admit to their black operations and I doubt if the OBA government is going to do so.
But we should not be surprise isn’t that how they won the election; foreign campaign donations which was even too much for it’s former chairman.
Paid bloggers and paying the unemployed to spread OBA political slogans and campaign flyers. A general campaign of disinformation and outlandish promises of jobs; remember; ” We will stop the bleeding”.
A whole list of miss-steps and disavowing of it’s own campaign promises which have even dishearten an increasing number of voters who supported them. Just after a poll said they have no connection with the people; they have proven it with their reaction to the recent woman’s protest over breast examinations and even one of their own MP’s have pleaded that they take more concern over the concerns of the people. But I doubt if this runaway train is going to slow down or even take a different path no matter what their political polls state.

    • serengeti says:

Well can we hear all about the foreign campaign donations made to the PLP? Does the PLP believe in ‘full disclosure’ or not?

      • Betty says:

The OBA are in the position to now put into Campaign Donation laws, Will they do it? NO because they benefit from not having a Transparent process.

    • .am says:

You really need to learn what a blogger is.

      • PBanks says:

90% of all people commenting on Bernews need to learn what a blogger is.

  58. Ed Case says:

OBA should give PLP a dose of their own medicene and not apologise.

  59. Ed Case says:

If Mr.Hill seriously thinks he has a future in politics, he’d better grown a skin that’s thicker than a micron.

On the other hand, he seems to have a knack of totally embarrassing himself, so he should go far in the PLP.

  60. Cha says:

    Children Children…Who cares.

  61. TonyC says:

Interesting that the PLP twitter page has images of projects which went hugely over budget, which to me sums up everything about that party. No ideas, just slinging mud in the hope something will stick. I’m praying that the people of Bermuda will see right through them.

  62. Not again !!! says:

Good luck with that one Mr. Hill LOL

  63. JustAskin2 says:

Typical. Is anyone surprised? IMHO the OBA and/or its supporters/bloggers, for all its smiles and lies and promises appear to be a rather callous and vindictive bunch.

  64. Casual Observer says:

    You go to love Bermuda.

All this outrage over this tweet, but the same people saw nothing wrong with the following:

    - Jahmal Simmons’ highly disturbing tweets (who in turn was rewarded for his divineness with a PLP candidacy and is now an MP)

    - Makai Dickerson’s blatantly sexist cartoons during the 2012 PLP election campaign

    - Eron Hill’s KKK OBA social media post. I hope the OBA now sues him for such a disgusting correlation.

    - Christopher Famous’ blatant half-truth articles against the OBA in which he feels free to omit pieces of information when making his lopsided arguments and as such completely misrepresenting the positions of other that he hates so much

Bermuda is another world. Don’t apologise OBA. Show the Party of ‘do what I say and not what I do’ that you can play their silly games as well.

  65. Ed Case says:

Three grown men pose for a news photo while sporting women’s underwear over their clothes, and expect nobody to make an amusing comment?

Mr Hill – this is pathetic – even for the PLP – and that is saying something.

  66. clearasmud says:

@James I agree 100%. We already know that our Premier is not above such action. No surprise that he does not apologise with his “if I offended any one” comment.

  67. Onion Soup says:

I find it difficult to wrap my head around the evident outrage that Eron Hill is expressing over what is merely an attempt at humour…the caption on the photo is in poor taste perhaps, but defamation?? The only real damage to your reputation vis-a-vis this issue is self-inflicted in that it reveals your level of self-importance and the degree of pomposity you have attained. So what if the caption suggests that you, Famous and Dickerson support Catherine [sic] Jenner? Would that not be a good thing? You need to stop nit-picking and trying to make mountains out of mole-hills when there are more important issues to spend your energies on. A word of caution…you’re quickly entering “patsy” territory.

  68. Tony Brannon says:

Both the PLP and the OBA need to “come out of the closet” and to the right thing for Human Rights.

The fact that NEITHER PARTY haas yet to support SAME SEX MARRIAGE says they both have their heads in the sand.

That is the true mockery….that is denial of human rights.
So the gotcha politics of Dunkley and Baron walking on the grass over bras OR the OBA tweet ….. is all a side show and really quite pathetic.

DO THE RIGHT THING OBA/PLP and stop hiding on this most important issue. Have the guts to do the right thing…. No one is saying we want to force the “CHURCH” to perform SAME SEX MARRIAGE …IF indeed that is what you politicians are worried about….
We are saying make SAME SEX MARRIAGE legal in Bermuda via civil ceremony, beach weddings etc, and give same sex couples ALL the RIGHTS opposite sex couples have…..

    • Mockingjay says:

So you mean animals are smarter than humans because obviously they weren’t taught about pro-creation.

  69. hahaha says:

The infestation of OBA supporters hiding behind screen names making such vile comments on these sites is hilarious.

  70. e says:

One expects this sort of frivolous nonsense from Messrs Hill et al., and by all means let them be silly. What’s the OBA PR person’s/peoples’ excuse?

    Bonfire of the Inanities, indeed.

  71. Enough says:

Eron Hill is nothing more than a who needs to stay out of the public eye.

  72. Transvestite says:

The PLP dislike gays, and now this?

  73. Bermudians could find funny in devastation…so be it…
