Photos & Video: Non Mariners Race Underway
[Updated with live video & more photos] The annual Non-Mariners Race is getting underway today [Aug 2] at the Sandys Boat Club, with the always popular ‘non-event’ seeing strange and unusual watercraft taking to the water, most sinking within minutes.

The Non-Mariners Race started decades ago when a group of drinking friends debated the flotation properties of baby carriages, and ended up trying to sail a baby carriage from Albuoy’s Point to Whites Island. This unsuccessful boating attempt was the start of what is now an annual tradition.

Missed it again this year. No loss. Big non event of nothng but drunk people & a non non event that it has become. Everywhere but Mangrove Bay was peaceful & quiet.

On the contrary, the Castle Harbour was very nice thankyou. Not even an obnoxious blasting sound system to be heard.
You know its one thing to raft up for non-mariners and have a good time, but when these big rent-a-boats show up and anchor next to you and play their noise so loud you can`t have a normal conversation on your own boat! That is just nasty and soooo not in the spirit of non-mariners. Bann those idiots!
They are not even there for the event. They are there to party & the fact that their noise annoys others does not matter at all.
All those charterboats should take their noise & go anchor below Ft Scaur in the sound.
