Man Pleads “Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity”
In this morning’s [Sept 1] Supreme Court Monthly Arraignments Session, 27-year-old Shirwin Smith faced a charge of wounding.
Asked to plead to the charge that on 29th March 2015, he had unlawfully wounded another man, Smith replied: “Not guilty by reason of insanity.”
This response caused a short discussion between presiding Justice Charles-Etta Simmons and the defence counsel.
The outcome was that Mr Smith was that a psychiatric report would be prepared in time for Mr Smith to be brought back to Court on October 1st; at which time his mental state would be considered.
