Canon Of The Cathedral Of Most Holy Trinity
On Sunday [Sept 27] the Bishop of Bermuda, The Rt Revd Nicholas Dill, will Collate and Licence Maj. The Revd. David Raths as a Canon of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity.
The Collation and Licensing of Maj. The Revd. David Raths as a new Canon will take place at the Bermuda Cathedral at 4:00pm on Sunday.
“For most of the last 10 years, Revd David has singlehandedly provided pastoral services to the three Anglican churches in St George’s parish. He has built on, and improved, the ministry of the Blessing of Boats and the Seamen’s service at Chapel of Ease,” the Church said.
“The Revd. David Raths has established the nucleus of a lay ministry team: Lay Reader, Parish Workers, and Chalice Administrators. The Revd. David Raths envisions the development of ministry to mariners, to visitors and to townspeople as an opportunity not to be missed by the Anglican Church in St George’s. The church continues to be open to visitors and a team of volunteers now welcome visitors.
“After a very long hiatus the Friends of St Peter’s was revived under the guidance of The Revd. David Raths. It is very active in raising funds, organizing events, assisting with improvements to the church and in general supporting the ministry of the church. HRH The Duke of York is the Patron.”
However, it is the presence of Their Majesties Chappell Choristers, who will be singing at Sunday’s service, who really make the occasion for Maj. The Revd. David Raths.
“It is the joy of the choristers and their parents being present which means so much to me, but it’s always nice to be appreciated,” Revd. Raths said.
The Choristers, a children’s choir, is directed by Choirmaster Martin Pastor, and Revd. David Raths has worked tirelessly to bring this dream to fruition.

The term ‘Canon’ means literally ‘rod of straightness’, something that could be measured against.
Bishop Nick believes that installing Revd. Raths as a Canon it is one way of saying thank you to him for his leadership and service and recognizing that he has provided a model of the life of faith in his leadership.
“I am delighted to have this opportunity to recognize a faithful servant of the gospel in Major the Revd. David Raths and to award him the title of Canon,” stated Bishop Nick.
“David has worked tirelessly for the benefit of the people of St. George’s parish, to put the church on the map and to provide a renewed sense of pride in the strong spiritual and historical heritage of our ancient town.
“Amongst many other things, he oversaw the renovation and subsequent renaming of the Church as ‘Their Majesties’ Chappell.’”
