November’s 2015 Klout Social Media Rankings

November 5, 2015

[Written by Don Burgess]

Last week Klout became transparent on how it calculates its scores by publishing a paper at a big data conference.

The move has earned praise in Forbes magazine. Contributor Theo Preistley had previously written in Forbes that “People have become obsessed with chasing meaningless numbers and Klout scores rather than just enjoy life. There was at one point a movement to use Klout as a means of measuring a candidate against a job application. Thankfully it failed.”

He now writes that “Klout has now matured beyond this kind of audience now, and as a first step the publication of this paper of how their data scientist team employs sophisticated algorithms and machine learning techniques proves that Klout and Lithium Technologies is much more than just a number.”

I still think the system can be gamed a bit but Klout is more meaningful now than it was two years ago.
The only change in the Bermuda Top 5 was Premier Michael Dunkley bumping myself into sixth. The rest of the top five — John Layfield, Bermuda Tourism Authority, Heather Nova and Collie Buddz remain the same.

Debuting on the Bermuda Top 50 Klout list are Today in Bermuda at #34, Bite of Bermuda at #37 and Karolina De Costa at #45.

All scores were recorded on November 3 2015.

Klout attempts to quantify a person or business social media influence through a variety of platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, among others. The scores run from one to 100 with 40 being average.
