Why am I not at all surprised to read this ?

On Christmas Day at Mid-day I had to go one mile from my place . I live in the middle of a long straight stretch and there was nothing in sight in either direction when I pulled out .
Before I was even 50′ out of my gate a bike went past me (almost clipping my mirror even though there was nothing coming in the oncoming lane) doing at least 80k . Usual model of bike , except this time it was white , not black , and it was obviously very overloaded by the 2 large male (usual description) passengers . They even appeared to have a young child sandwiched between them !
Before my blood could come to a full boil I looked in my mirror (I’m on a bike) and there’s a silver blue BMW coupe on my a$$ 3 feet behind me who appeared to be racing the bike , impatient as all hell he finally overtakes me in a dangerous manner as well. The bike passed a car well ahead of me on a bend , the BMW was in full pursuit and before I knew it they were both out of sight by the time I hit the next long stretch just around the next bend.

These idiots were no doubt taking advantage of a diminished police presence combined with lighter holiday traffic . We see this all the time on holidays .

Trust me , as long as they don’t take out any innocent members of the public I have NO sympathy for them when they eventually do themselves serious harm .

5 vehicles! On a 2 lane road where the speed limit is supposed to be 20mph, or thereabouts, how do 5 vehicles get tangled up in the same crash? How much tailgating & inattentiion was going on to make that happen?

    race car drivers lol

Lets get serious about this tail gating problem we seem to have.
Here is what you could do, if someone is tailgates you, there are three + 0. options.

    0. Stay absolute calm, be the better driver.
    1. Put on your right turn flasher.
    2. Put on your emergency flasher to get their attention, then
    3. Slow down to a crawl, move over let the driver overtake only when convenient.

3a. It is better to have the driver in front of you were you can see the vehicle, than behind you were you can not see the vehicle.

      Wrong
The best way to get a tailgater’s attention is to yank up your hand brake without applying any foot brake . Gets their attention quite well , not to mention their brain cells moving a bit .

      • Triangle Drifter says:

Very effective. The most likely response will be a thorough cursing in your direction as if you were at fault for them driving in a dangerous manner.

My car is getting up in age & I am looking for somebody to write it off for me & make a nice down payment for me on something new. Just waiting for the right one to be tailgating when I see that cat dash across the road & slam brakes.
