BCHC Signs Radiotherapy Treatment Agreement

April 4, 2016

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre [BCHC] signed a Radiotherapy Treatment Facility Services Agreement with the Boston-based Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center.

“Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, working jointly as DF/BWCC, are affiliates of the Harvard Medical School. This agreement follows last year’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between DF/BWCC and BCHC to expand collaboration and the provision of world-class on-island health services to Bermuda patients,” BCHC said.

“The DF/BWCC faculty and staff will provide advisory services to Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre in connection with the design and construction of the first on-island radiotherapy treatment facility, and with the development of its radiotherapy treatment programme.

“For Bermuda, the involvement of the DF/BWCC team ensures that the facility will be designed and constructed to best practice industry standards. DF/BWCC looks to build community relationships to improve care delivery and performance in community settings, enhance their educational and research missions, and foster strong customer service-based relationships with referring providers.

“As part of the recent signing of a collaborative agreement between the Bermuda Hospitals Board and Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, Dr. Chris Fosker, Clinical Oncologist will work at both facilities. Dr. Fosker also received affiliate appointments with both Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

“Dr. Fosker recently attended his first radiation oncology faculty meeting in Boston to meet his new colleagues, with whom he will work directly with to develop the radiotherapy programme for Bermuda.

“This collaboration will bring together the local cancer care experience in Bermuda and the expertise of one of the world’s leading cancer centers to tailor the radiation programme to best suit the needs of Bermudian patients. This will enable Bermudians to be able to receive the highest standard of radiotherapy here in Bermuda.”
