Photos: Dance Academy ‘In The Movies’ Recital
Bermuda Dance Academy held its first dance recital, dubbed “In The Movies,” at The Berkeley Institute Cafetorium on Saturday, June 11.
A spokesperson said, “Under the direction of owner and head teacher Nikia Manders, dancers aged 4 to 18 years old performed to popular movie soundtracks including “Annie” and “Frozen,” while, older dancers thrilled the audience with routines to “Drum Line”, “Hunger Games” and “Step Up.”
“Several students from The Berkeley Institute were featured as guest performers in the recital.
“The ambiance of the event remained on theme giving patrons the impression they were at the cinema. Popcorn and drinks were on sale and movie trailers played between acts.”

Nikia Manders said, “Our dancers worked tirelessly at practicing routines over the last few months in anticipation of this production. Overall, I’m pleased to say parents and audience members were treated to an exciting show highlighting both class and solo acts from a talented group of aspiring dancers.
“Bermuda Dance Academy will deliver summer classes on Saturdays; beginning July 2, 2016, through August 6, 2016 – $60 for the summer term. Parents of children aged 3-5 years old are encouraged to register for ‘Intro to Dance’ at 9.00am while those aged 6-14 years can avail of “Jazz/Hip Hop” at 10am. All classes will be held at The Berkeley Institute.
“Last year Bermuda Dance Academy only offered combination classes where kids learned technique, performance skills and flexibility. However, Bermuda Dance Academy is pleased to expand its offering for its fall term this year to include targeted classes in ballet, hip-hop, modern and jazz.”
“Fall Term Begins September 13, with classes on Tuesday from 4pm – 5pm [Ballet Age 6-12]; Tuesday from 5pm – 6pm [Hip Hop Age 7 & Up]; Tuesday from 6pm – 7pm [Modern Age 13 & Up]; Saturday from 9am – 9am [Intro to Dance Age 3-5]; Saturday from 10am – 11am [Ballet/Jazz Age 5-7]; and Saturday from 11am – 12pm [Jazz Age 7-12].
